Hot Summer Days

Hot Summer Days
Though we've got fall fashion on the brain, we haven't forgotten that we're still very much in the midst of summer. (Thanks for the reminder, scorching temperatures.) Not that we're complaining, of course! We love the carefree, feel-good spirit of this season, especially all the fun and easy-breezy clothing that accompanies it. Accordingly, we've decided to dedicate today's installment of What They Wear to those hot summer days we adore so much with a round up of this year's best warm-weather ensembles. Whether it's Ashley Olsen's slip dress, Karolina Kurkova's crisp white denim, or Kirsten Dunst's LBD, today's featured ladies definitely know a thing or two about how to beat the heat in style, so be sure to take notes!

WHO: Karolina Kurkova
WHAT: Photographed out and about in New York a few months ago.
WEAR: Rag & Bone Capri Cropped Pants ($155) in Bright White; Alexander Wang Anita Structured Bag from the F/W 10 collection.
WHY: Whether it's high-waisted flares or a slim, cropped style, you really can't go wrong with white denim in the summer. Kurkova certainly got it right when she styled her lust-worthy Rag & Bone jeans with a sheer brown tank and silver t-strap sandals. The resulting look is simple, clean, and crisp: perfect for a casual afternoon lunch. To find yourself in a similarly savvy ensemble, try pairing ASOS' Sheer Cropped Shirt with Double Pocket ($43) with the Crop Zelda Distressed Jean Leggings ($70) from Express or National Jean Company's Ideal Ankle Skinny Jeans ($138).

WHO: Heidi Klum
WHAT: Shopping in Tribeca two months ago.
WEAR: Raquel Allegra Line Drawing T-Back Tank ($232, 312.202.0047); Work Custom Jeans Panther Shorts ($150); Chanel bag; Oliver Peoples sunglasses; K. Jacques sandals.
WHY: Easygoing and lightweight separates, like Klum's tank top and cutoff shorts, are key when constructing a warm-weather ensemble, especially if you're going to be running errands or have a day of shopping planned. In addition to approving of the model/mogul's outfit, we're also quite fond of her footwear, which is an excellent alternative to flip-flops. To create a likeminded ensemble, we suggest checking out LA Made's Tissue Jersey Tamara Tank ($44) or Swell's Moon Tank ($37) and pairing either option with Current/Elliott's Boyfriend Shorts ($168). Just be sure to snag a pair of chic sandals, like DV by Dolce Vita's Dara Flat Sandals ($50), to give your outfit a Klum-inspired finish.

WHO: Zoe Kravitz
WHAT: Spotted running errands in New York back in June.
WEAR: The Reformation dress and hat; vintage bag, sunglasses, and shoes.
WHY: While the foundation of Kravitz's look-a mini dress and a pair of brogues-is rather simple, her selection of accessories, including an across-body bag, fedora, round shades, and layered pendant necklaces, keep the look feeling of-the-moment and effortlessly cool. Fortunately for you, dear readers, mimicking Kravitz's smart outfit is simple! Just start with Aubin & Wills' Leventhorpe Checked Cotton Dress ($62) and add a few interesting necklaces, like All For The Mountain's Mothership Tassel Necklace ($330) and Anthropologie's Acai Tassel Necklace ($30). Once you have those pieces sorted, grab a pair of circular frames-Urban Outfitters' Oversized Round Frame Sunglasses ($7) or Warby Parker's Jasper Sunglasses ($95) are both totally cute options-and finish with Rag & Bone's Cotton-Trimmed Straw Fedora ($125), and voila! You'll be ready for those brutal temps in a flash.

WHO: Rachel Bilson
WHAT: Spending some quality time with her family at Underwood Family Farm in Moorpark, California back in June
WEAR: White t-shirt; Paige Silverlake Shorts ($129) in Woodstock; Soludos Roso Espadrilles ($28) in Red and White Stripe.
WHY: A basic tee and denim cutoffs is always a smart combo for hot days, but we suggest taking a page from Bilson's stylebook and adding a wide-brim hat and festive espadrille slip-ons for a casually cool finish. If you too enjoy Bilson's outfit, we suggest snagging a few of the basics first, like James Perse's V-Neck Tee ($65) or Express' Scoop-Neck Pocket Tee ($20) along with her exact shorts or Victoria Beckham's Cut-Off Stretch Denim Shorts ($150). As for her hat and shoes, we think Roxy's Breezy Straw Hat ($26), TOMS Pale Pink Cordones ($69), and Mymu's Marsia Flats ($138) all fit the bill perfectly.

WHO: Ashley Olsen
WHAT: Snapped leaving her apartment in New York last month.
WEAR: The Row Silk Slip Dress ($475); The Row Day Luxe Tote (price upon request) and Sunglasses ($874); Toms + The Row Hayden Shoes ($140) in Light Gray.
WHY: While a floral mini or a LWD are both suitable options for summer dressing, we're also quite fond of a simple slip dress a la Olsen. The lightweight, breezy fabric is ideal for humid conditions, plus the fuss-free silhouette is perfect for all your on-the-go moments, so don't hesitate to pick up Enza Costa's Long Slip Dress ($126), White + Warren's Maxi Slip Dress ($130), or 12th Street By Cynthia Vincent's Full Length Slip Dress ($276) today. Style any of these options with a pair of wedges for an effortless summer-in-the-city look or follow in Olsen's stylish footsteps and wear it with a pair of casual slip-ons for a chic-yet-laidback daytime outfit.

WHO: Kirsten Dunst
WHAT: Running around New York late last month.
WEAR: Black strapless dress; Louis Vuitton bag; Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer Sunglasses ($195); Chloe flats.
WHY: For Dunst, simplicity is the name of the game when it comes to beating the heat. Just take the outfit she put together while out and about in New York, for example. The actress kept cool in a fitted strapless dress and a pair of Chloe flats, accessorized with some classic Ray-Ban sunglasses. Though the LBD is an unexpected daytime option, she made it work by teaming it with casual footwear and a shoulder bag. If you're in the market for some look-a-like pieces, you definitely don't want to miss Aqua's Fitted Back Zip Dress ($108) or Forever 21's Strapless Pleated Dress ($20); both have sultry, body-skimming silhouettes that can be taken from day to night without missing a beat. And although Dunst's enviable footwear is no longer available, we think Cooperative's Leather Triple Buckle Skimmer ($20) and Topshop's Marsielle Black Double Strap Pumps ($56) are both worthy substitutes.

WHO: Elle Fanning
WHAT: Out and about in Beverly Hills earlier this month.
WEAR: Pendleton meets Opening Ceremony Madras Pleated Dress ($153) in Yellow; Cacharel sunglasses; Cooperative Janis Platform Sandals ($30).
WHY: By now you've probably noticed the one common denominator in all of today's looks: sunglasses! Stylish shades are a summer wardrobe essential and Elle Fanning certainly takes the cake with her bright orange pair by Cacharel. They are fun and playful, just like the season, plus they perfectly complement her swingy plaid mini dress. To channel Fanning's youthful and on-trend ensemble, try either LOFT's Madras Plaid Dress ($20) or Roxy's Desert Rain Dress ($50) with Urban Outfitters' Reisertown Round Matte Sunglasses ($7) in Orange, and you've got yourself a prime afternoon BBQ outfit!-Jessica Baker
