Full disclosure: today's topic is a bit of a personal indulgence for your WhoWhatWear.com editors. But can you blame us for wanting to take a minute to turn the spotlight on a collection of cool celebs who also happen to have canine friends? Not really. But aside from the fact that this story gives us a chance to moon over cute pups, there is a rather practical element to it too. Though we don't own a dog ourselves┬--someday!┬--we know that sometimes people need a little outfit inspiration for these types of casual activities, hence this installment of What They Wear! So read on for all the essential details about these dog-walking outfits and a word or two about the furry fellows too!
Casual Cutoffs: Anne V (and Chovy) + Agness Deyn (and Rudy)
What do two of our favorite MODs wear when they're walking their small speckled dogs? Cutoffs of course! The always-stunning Anne V. opted for a double-denim look earlier this summer, when she was snapped strolling in the West Village with her incredibly cute Pomeranian, Chovy (it's short for Anchovy), and beau Adam Levine. The Russian model paired her vintage Levi's shorts with The Reformation's London Tee ($155), Current/Elliott's The Perfect Shirt ($198), and Repetto's Ballet Flats ($222), and then polished off her laidback ensemble with Bottega Veneta's Sunglasses ($435). Meanwhile, our go-to girl Agyness Deyn went for a Gallic look when walking her dog Rudy in the East Village last month. Our favorite buzz-cut beauty styled her vintage Levi's shorts with a slouchy, vintage striped t-shirt, AllSaints' Ophelia Flat Sandals ($190), and a pair of fab vintage '50s shades for her jaunt about town. Need some similar pieces for your next trip to the dog park? We suggest Levi's 501 Cutoff Shorts ($50) for a lighter pair like Deyn's or Siwy's Madeline Extra Large Pocket Shorts ($162) in Lilt for an Anne V-inspired choice. Next, add your off-duty top! If a denim-on-denim look has you on a short leash, try Topshop's 70s Oversized Denim Shirt ($60) or Madewell's Dustbowl Denim Shirt ($88) in Forge Wash for a more Western-minded take. If it's a Breton stripe that you're still coveting, pick up Madewell's Saint James Meridien II Tee ($85) to add a little je ne sais quoi to your favorite all-American cutoffs.
Cool Coats and Comfy Jeans: Rachel Bilson (and Thurman Murman) + Sienna Miller (and Porgy)
It's no surprise that lots of fashionable ladies reach for their favorite jeans when walking their pups: after all, denim and dogs just go together. But just because jeans are in the mix, that doesn't mean you have to look boring, as Rachel Bilson and Sienna Miller both proved with their furry coats. Bilson, seen here carrying the sweet-faced Thurman Murman this spring, was already onto the animal-print trend, as evidenced by her cute leopard layer. The InStyle columnist and tastemaker styled this printed vintage piece with black skinny jeans and a pair of Chloe boots for a casually chic look. Meanwhile across the ocean, Sienna Miller also picked a textured topper for walking her wee dog Porgy in London. Miller mixed a pair of her own Twenty8Twelve jeans with a vintage fur jacket, Louis Vuitton's Sofia Coppola Suede Asphalt Bag ($3730), and Ray-Ban's Small Metal Aviators ($89) for a practical-yet-interesting combo. If you're mad about either Bilson's or Miller's outerwear options, do check out a few of our favorites: Topshop's Crop Faux Fur Leopard Coat ($170), Jaeger London's Faux Fur Jacket ($289), or Yumi's Faux Fur Coat with Glass Button Detail ($152). Wear with your favorite slim jeans┬--we like Topshop's Black Baxter Skinny Jeans ($80) or Joe's Jeans Visionaire Skinny Jeans ($172) for a Miller-like wash┬--and flat boots to obtain the perfect promenade ensemble for fall!
Lightweight Layers: Jessica Hart (and Charlie) + January Jones (and Max)
Regardless of where you are or what time of year it is, one thing is certain: no one wants to get dressed up to walk the dog. That's why we love the ultra-relaxed, lightweight layered looks that our final dog-owner duo sports on these strolls. While model Jessica Hart and actress January Jones have very different personal styles, both put their easy pieces together in ways that are worth emulating. For a jaunt in Soho with her Yorkie Charlie, Hart threw on an oversized vintage army surplus parka with cropped leggings, Daryl K's Zip Up Shirt Dress ($325), and her beloved Whyred combat boots. The voluminous jacket and the fitted bottoms make for such a cute look, plus we love the Australian stunner's purposefully sloppy shoes. While Hart epitomizes MOD cool, January Jones assembled a more classic ensemble for her outing with furry friend Max in Beverly Hills earlier this summer. The Mad Men star combined a Madewell Year-Round Tank ($18) with a gauzy pink cardi and Goldsign's Runway Misfit Slim Leg Denim Jeans ($257), then gave her outfit a touch of Old Hollywood polish with BCBG's Basic Straw Fedora ($38). To avoid the sartorial doghouse on your next outdoor excursion, snag some of Hart's military-inspired style by throwing on Topshop's Fur Padded Parka ($160) and Steve Madden's Troopa Boots ($100) in black. While Jones' items of choice are mostly available, you can still opt to recreate the small-screen star's lovely layers by selecting Paige Denim's Bell Canyon Skinny Flare Jeans ($189) and adding a dose of pretty pink to your outfit with Silence and Noise's Pointelle Sweater ($35).
