What are the key shoes for summer?

A: Besides a regular pedicure and a glowing suntan, cute summer sandals are the other key component for having fabulous looking gams. These are the three types of shoes we think you MUST own this season because they're both flattering and fashionable.

Must-Have #1: Flat Sandals
Resist a shoe with a mini lift and embrace the effortless comfort a super flat sandal has to offer. In fact, your motto should be: the flatter the better. The dazzle should be in the details--get ones that are either jeweled or studded and wear them with everything from crisp clean trousers and blouses to flirty, printed dresses. Think of them as jewelry for your feet! That said, if you are looking to embrace your inner flower child, break out your old or invest in some new Birkenstocks. While we can't resist the classic browns and beiges we so loved in the '90s, dare to wear the designer versions.

Must-Have #2: Heeled Gladiator Sandals or Lace-Up Heels
These statement shoes are meant to be the star of your outfit. You can keep your wardrobe simple--think: little white dresses to puffy skirts and tanks in blacks and whites--because this runway favorite will add some daring punch. Choose a proportion that flatters the leg and fits snugly, but not too tight, around the calf. Metallics, nudes, and blacks are the most palatable colors for this type of shoe.

Must-Have #3: Chunky Low-Heeled Sandals
Everyone from Isabel Marant to Chloe charmed us with chunkier, square low heels with ankle straps. These look great paired with knee-length skirts or cropped skinny jeans, and are ideal if you're looking for an understated shoe that still gives you a little height.
