What Was She Wearing
While we realize the approach of February fourteenth can stir fear, adoration, or other inexplicable emotions in the hearts of many, for us it simply reignites our desire for one of our greatest sartorial loves: lingerie. A key staple for any wardrobe, pretty lingerie is a necessary and instrumental tool for bequeathing a little bit of loveliness to your ensemble, or adding a hint of sex appeal peeking out from beneath your favorite tank or tee. Like a shiny bauble or bejeweled accessory, a lacy bra or winsome nightie can be undeniably alluring and make you feel as though you indulged in a wonderfully luxurious treat.

We have no doubt that you, dear readers, know how to layer your clothes: it's a practical necessity this time of year and a required skill for any fashionable person. But we also know that everyone could use a little inspiration in this department, as it's important to ensure that these climate-required coverings feel like a stylish choice rather than a utilitarian drag. On that note, we’d love to offer you a few on-trend tastemakers who wear their oversized layers in fabulous ways. Whether you love Mary-Kate Olsen's plentiful scarves or prefer Jessica Alba's chic neutrals, you're sure to find a piece or two (plus some tips and tricks) for creating your own equally nuanced outfits.

Though we never met a Proenza Schouler collection we didn't like, we were particularly taken by the designer duo's S/S 10 show. Drawing inspiration from the worlds of surfing and skating, the minds behind this cult label—fashion-world darlings Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez—created a high energy, fun, and tomboy-meets-girly presentation that was undoubtedly one of their very best. The creative pair experimented with pieces that were brilliantly tied and dyed, but kept the patterns and tailoring sporty and marvelously modern—not like the hippie-splattered pieces we remembered from day camp. The snug tops and flouncy, voluminous skirts were styled to perfection, and the technicolor neon palette felt decidedly of-the-moment. In fact, our hearts were aflutter when we first set our eyes on the Tie-Dyed Long-Sleeve Shirt ($375), the Sleeveless Tie-Dyed Mini Dress ($2760), and the Cowl-Back Mini Dress ($1520), as they are the ideal way to sweep some much-needed sunshine into our winter wardrobe!

Every year a few of our favorite indie darlings (and their biz-minded entourage) bundle themselves in their winter best and board a ninety-minute flight to attend a chilly but chic week of screenings, gifting suites, and ski-in, ski-out escapades at the Sundance Film Festival. During the film frenzy, the otherwise laid-back locale of Park City, Utah transforms into an uber posh celebrity stomping ground, complete with a calendar of events that can make even a Weinstein dizzy. Between taking in the top titles like Blue Valentine with Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, watching James Franco make a literary-inspired turn in Howl, or rocking out to Joan Jett in honor of The Runaways, Sundance attendees had to be outfitted for a myriad of invites while their agents rolled calls. Fortunately, while Lionsgate and Fox Searchlight were busy having it out over the Ryan Reynolds toplined thriller Buried, we were easily able to rely on our favorite trendsetters to start the sartorial bidding wars with their fashion-forward cold-weather looks.
