What Would She Wear: Erin Wasson

Fact: Erin Wasson is a bona fide fashion icon. Not only is she an actual supermodel, but she also has a preternaturally strong sense of off-duty style that's so noteworthy, it's led to a thriving career on the other side of the lens and the catwalk. After all, how many other famous faces can also say they've styled Alexander Wang shows and served as an editor on fashion stories in Elle while simultaneously creating a line of jewelry and designing a clothing collection, Erin Wasson x RVCA? Not so many, dear readers; in fact, nobody's even close.

Aesthetically speaking, Wasson's point of view is as impressive and influential as it is difficult to describe. Though there are many ways you could try to sum up her style influences—seventies rocker, nineties grunge, So Cal skater-surfer cool—her look is so specific and unique that she is really in a league of her own. Needless to say, we spend a significant portion of our time admiring her amazing attire and trying to deconstruct her effortless ensembles. Since we scrutinize Wasson's style so carefully, we figured that it was high time we applied our knowledge and create a hypothetical outfit in her honor. In today's edition of What Would She Wear we did just that; we hope that after reviewing our well-edited choices you will be inspired to take a walk on the Wasson side!

1. Lutz and Patmos Slouchy Fur Hat ($351)
A devoted fan of felt fedoras and straw porkpies, this fuzzy beanie from Lutz and Patmos would fit seamlessly into Wasson's hat rotation. Considering the fact that we've seen her wear both slouchy beanies and fur accents on separate occasions, we think this piece would be an obvious choice for her most-wanted list. The cap offers the perfect fusion of both elements, plus the blush hue is an interesting, unexpected choice.

2. Erin Wasson X RVCA Daisy Velvet Dress ($100)
While it's true that Erin Wasson did design this dress, we think this scoop-neck body-con piece completely encapsulates our subject du jour's frock philosophy: the tighter the better. In addition to the snug silhouette, it's made out of a '90s-approved fancy fabric—stretchy crushed blue velvet—which is actually figure-flattering for us non-model mortals!

3. Elizabeth and James for Robert Lee Morris Large Snake Pendant icon ($195)
Though she creates body jewelry composed of delicate and intricately webbed chains for her LuvLow line, we know that Wasson also appreciates vintage-inspired fare. This silver serpent pendent, made by fellow muses-turned-designers the Sisters Olsen, would look right at home around Wasson's neck!

4. Prada Crackle Fringe Stud Bag ($1395)
This clutch from the miraculous mind of Miuccia Prada incorporates so many of Wasson's design trademarks we had to include it in today's story. The fringe adornments are very haute-hippie, while the studded embellishments reference her penchant for punk pieces. Just slip this bag onto your wrist for a Wasson-worthy finishing touch!

5. Allison Schiller Silver Bezeled Geode Ring ($395)
We can only imagine what musical gems fill Wasson's iPod; however, we do know that when it comes to rings, Wasson is a hardcore fan of heavy metal. Allison Schiller's substantial metallic accessory is the perfect compliment to the earthy and incredibly gorgeous black geode stone.

6. Maybelline Great Lash Big Mascaraicon ($6) in Blackest Black 130
Wasson's makeup look is decidedly low-key and au natural (maybe she's born with it?), but we know that she would flip for the newest incarnation of Maybelline's must-have Great Lash mascara. The extra large brush guarantees both dramatic lash volume and no clumps; just a coat or two and you'll be ready to go!

7. Sam Edelman Zoe Boots ($345)
In addition to her beloved creepers and studded heels, we think these Zoe Boots—which recall the vertiginous bridled platforms Nicolas Ghesquière showed on the Balenciaga F/W 06 runway—would look perfect with Wasson's favorite denim cut-offs.

8. Alexander Wang Denim Jacket with Goatskin Sleeves ($595)
Wasson and Wang are close collaborators, friends, and neighbors, so we know that their design aesthetics have been hugely influenced by each other (Wasson styled Wang's shows, while Wang designed for the model-off-duty look Wasson embodied). Though she may have sat this season out as Wang's backstage ensemble engineer, we can't help but think Wasson would love to tool around town in this classic faded denim jacket with tough-meets-lux goatskin sleeves!

Early 90s influenced post -- grungy. Nice job except for the picture of your inspiration. Mmmh, hate to rain on your love-fest, but the Emperor, um, Ms. Watson, needs more than just a coat of mascara. Perhaps, it's in keeping with the grungy theme. I love the shoes and the ring though.

Those are indeed Rumi's shoes, but Fashion Toast is really What Would Erin Wasson Wear if she were walking back from the beach in California -- the answer to which is typically, next to nothing plus gigantic shoes.
