What Was She Wearing: Answers!

Now that we're a few days into the lovely month of March, we have officially entered a season of transitional dressing. If you're unfamiliar with the phrase, please know that we're referring to that tricky limbo time when the season has officially changed, but the weather has not. We have received many inquiries about this problematic style situation and are happy to help, dear readers! For today's installment of What Was She Wearing: Answers!, we specifically collected stylish celebs (like Mandy Moore and Kate Bosworth) who are clad in appropriate seasonal segue attire!

Mandy Moore
At WhoWhatWear.com, we appreciate Mandy Moore's simple and understated style, as it is relatable without being dull. The singer/actress also happens to be a reader favorite, so we keep a detailed account of all her outfits! Just a few weeks ago, Moore was spotted wearing The Row's Schoolboy Jacket ($1100) over a vintage Missoni dress, Repetto flats, and Cutler and Gross 0862 Sunglasses ($425, special order from Selima Optique Soho, 212.343.9490), while shopping at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills. We adored her whole ensemble, but perhaps our favorite element is the Alexander McQueen Messenger Bag ($1409) she carried. To get Moore's look, try layering J. Crew's Super 120s Jacketicon ($230) over Banana Republic’s Cap-sleeve Sweater Dress ($175) and carry Gryson's Hannah Bag ($675).

Lindsay Lohan
Alexander Wang has an extensive celebrity fan base, but of all his famous supporters, Lindsay Lohan is definitely one of the most devoted. She consistently picks the designer's industrial, stylish pieces and was recently spotted running errands in Beverly Hills wearing Wang's Denim Leather Motorcycle Jacket ($1495). As for the rest of her outfit, Lohan chose a simple black t-shirt dress, Chloe’s Buckle Boots (sadly sold out, as they are from the fall 08 collection) and a Lanvin Happy PM Bag ($1760, available in black). For a budget-friendly take on Lohan's outfit, we suggest wearing Charlotte Ronson's Moto Jacket ($279) over your own t-shirt dress, paired with French Connection's Patent Quilted Oversized Clutch ($74) and Pour La Victoire Rebecca Boots ($444).

Whitney Port
As dedicated WhoWhatWear.com editors, we made thorough rounds at New York Fashion Week, took notes on the best collections, and scouted next season's trends. While there, we also kept tabs on the celebrity style we witnessed, like the Carrie Bradshaw-inspired outfit worn by Whitney Port. The City starlet charmed in a double-breasted Diane von Furstenberg Staedtler Jacket ($596) and floral frock, paired with purple Marc Jacobs booties and Lia Sophia Deco Lux Earrings ($575). Construct your own version of Port's ensemble with DVF's Hazelle Chiffon Ruffle Dress ($345) or Elizabeth and James' Floral Boudoir Dressicon ($495), and Steve Madden Roarr Boots ($110).

Kate Bosworth
To conclude our stylish set for the day, we have WWW golden girl—Kate Bosworth. Last month, the actress turned up at Joan's on Third in an outfit that piqued your interest, so we sleuthed out the details about her casually chic look. Bosworth chose a bleached and thrashed pair of J Brand Pencil Leg Ripped Tie Dye Skinny Jeans ($218) and simple light gray sweatshirt as the foundation of her outfit. She accessorized with a vibrant, carmine pink Chloe scarf, Maison Martin Margiela Petrol Blue High Heel Pumps ($494), and a Dorothy Shopper Bag ($795) by Alexander Wang. You can accomplish a similar rendering of Bosworth's outfit with Topshop's Cloud Wash Jeans ($80), American Apparel's Unisex Tri-Blend Long Sleeve V-Neck ($30) and Circle Scarf ($28) in Fluorescent Red, Cheap Monday's Beach Bag ($25) or Foley + Corinna's Washed Mid City Tote ($444), and Type Z's Suede Markita Heels ($75).—Jessica Amento

[sigh] I need whitney's jacket in my life...

whitney port is boring as hell so it's fortunate for her that her stylist (assuming she isn't this creative) deserves some proper credit for her recent ensembles. this look is amazing. i'd love it if she hadn't washed her hair though, let it be a bit more messy, and wore a nice red lipstick to bring out the red/persimmon in the dress and maybe a dark green clutch or vintage chain mail bag.

i like lindsay's jacket http://proportion.typepad.com

i love mandymoore she a very sweet girl but her clohing choices are jusst very ehhh and certainly are not inspiring. lindsay as usual looks veryy cute here im loving the a.wang jacket and chloe black boot but im not crazy about the bag its just okay and it doesnt really compliment her outfit.. hmmm whitney port i think she looks cute and that she can pull this outfit off but everything is all over the place maybe if she chose a plainer pair of shoes it would have pulled the outfit together.. kate bw look very cool here i love the ripped jeans grey sweatshirt she has going on and the pop of bright coral with the scarf but the shoes arent my favorite and remind me of what everyone was wearing a couple of seasons ago...

the Marc Jacobs boots are nice. The rest it a bit over the top.

Kate looks great!...I like Lindsay's vest. Mandy's is nothing new or special. And no comment on Whitney. The 'outfit' pretty much speaks for itself.

Seriously, WHO wasted our time and asked what Many Moore was wearing?? She looks like Katie Holmes in the bad old days. Lindsay is amazing as usual--loving the jacket. Whitney looks like she raided a vintage Betsey Johnson warehouse, and Kate Bosworth looks interesting/cool. I like the "pop" of the scarf.

Whitney- ugh! This "outfit" reminds me of a 5 year old getting dressed by herself. It is ridiculous and makes absolutely no sense.

I am sooo sorry to relay but Mandy Moore, I thought she was a nanny , the bag doesn't even compliment ....anything...ah Whitney Port, I hate to break it to u all, looks a mess. Nice pieces, which is always the case, but always too much, overload done here, trying to look different, and ending up looking dumb, I agree with the hamburger comment, Lindsay is my B*tch, we luv the same designers and to say for her age she knows a lot and always is up to par and always has it down pat, (I'm a New Yorker) that means "DECENT" her hanging with Kate Moss definitely rubbed off on her. Kate Bos has grown on me and this outfit shows what u can look like in the day time anytime with my favorite jeans for summer and the new color pumps, she could have even done a lemon color and a light lavendar and seafoam, she looks Great, I can tell she knows she looks good, and she does!!

I just can't get into Whitney Port's style. The pieces, separately, are great but together are a big ole mess.ohioverticals.com/blogs/style

I think whitney has developed a great look for herself, she is very beautiful and carries it off well. i kinda like kates look but it's a little monochromatic for me, i do like the silhouette with the bag tho'. sarah

Usually I LOVE Whit's style, but in this outfit she looks like a cupcake dressed up like the Hamburglar!!

Posted by: Theresa |  2009-03-05 20:06:41

Mandy Moore is -as always- underwhelming.

Posted by: Erin |  2009-03-05 17:25:43

Kate's look is so effortlessly perfect! Her suede heels are a must have this season. Goes with everything! The only thing we would change is adding a Chandelier Bracelet like this one: http://www.tinatang.com/bracelets/finejewelry/brac_chand.html to give the simple gray sweater some flavor.

Posted by: TheTinaTangCrew |  2009-03-05 16:32:52

Well, Mandy's outfit certainly is... sensible.

This isn't something I usually do, but Whitney Port's outfit is all over the place. I like each peice though. beautyandthestreet.blogspot.com

does anyone else just want to raid whitney port's wardrobe?! love the outfit so so much:)

Posted by: N |  2009-03-05 12:27:58

whitney's dress is wonderfully lovely.... but I am shaking my head at mandy moore. the outfit does an injustice to such a great jacket.

Posted by: kris |  2009-03-05 12:02:08

Kate looks amazing! Love the scarf and bag. :) I agree with everyone about Mandy Moore btw.. yuck.

I just thought I'd join the "We hate Mandy Moore's dull/boring/uninspiring/stupid outfits" club. Hello everyone!

Posted by: Lyla |  2009-03-05 11:26:56

I agree, no one could be less inspiring than Mandy Moore. Reese Witherspoon would have been a better choice for the stylish soccar mom types. Come on WWWD!!??

Posted by:  |  2009-03-05 11:03:04

Uhhh... I want to know who inquired about Mandy Moore's look. Can we say "soccer mom"?!

Posted by: fashi0nlover |  2009-03-05 10:13:32

Mandy Moore's style is "relatable without being dull"? And that is proven by this ensemble that would put an accountant into a coma? The only look worth copying is Bosworth's. I like her heels and bag.

I thought Kate's shoes were Calvin Klein, because they're suede, not leather. Oh well! They're gorgeous either way :)
