What They Wear: Lazy Weekend

As girls about town, you have a variety of different events you must be impeccable for, from holiday cocktail parties to casual dates. And while it seems like most of you go ga-ga for a glorious frock and high-shine clutch nearly any day of the week (as do we!), you sometimes need a little inspiration for more casual affairs or your off-duty days. Unlike festive Saturday nights or business-casual Fridays, weekend dressing is its own sartorial animal that can often be quite a scoundrel to style. Obviously you want to be comfortable, without looking sloppy, so we suggest looking to your favorite trendsetters—who are snapped daily–for their casually cute tips. From how to step out in sneakers to the right way to cozy up with a patterned scarf, these lovely ladies offer prime examples of how to appear effortlessly cool. In fact, we can say after reviewing this roundup the only steadfast rule for weekend-wear is: oversized bag required!

Agyness Deyn
One of our favorite icons of street chic, Agyness Deyn, looked lazy-day ready when she arrived back home for London Fashion Week this past September. Her tomboyish ensemble, comprised of a snuggly Topshop Playsuit ($100) and Keds Champion Sneakers ($35), was given an intriguing traveler's air with the addition of a light-wash denim vest and her RRL Beacon Pack ($650, 323.944.0301). Although the raven-haired model's Studded Denim Vest ($500) was designed specially for her by Daniela Gutmann, you can snag an equally edgy look with Mike & Chris' Ronner Stretch Denim Biker Vest ($265) or the Denim Oxford Shirt with Sweatshirt Combo ($395) from the master of denim remixes, Alexander Wang; just throw either one over Pineapples's Vintage Wash Jumpsuit ($85). Of course, off-duty or not, a stylesetter can't be without a statement pair of sunnies, and you can snag Deyn's exact look with Oliver People's Eyewear Sheldrake Sunglasses ($350) or opt for Urban Outfitters' Prepster ($10) lenses for a more affordable cat eye-meets-wayfarer style.

Katie Holmes
Actress/newbie designer, Katie Holmes, looked particularly lovely in her weekend wear when she was spotted jotting around New York's fashion district earlier this month. We like how she added some pizzazz to her winter wardrobe with a colorful scarf and metallic skirt, while keeping it simple with all-brown accessories. You can imitate Holmes' brand of languid luxe by opting for Milly's Metallic Tweed Mini Skirt icon ($255) and Made of Me's Explosion of Roses Gauzy Scarf ($28). Add similar leather accents like Free People's Bolu Leather Convertible Backpack ($308)—which can be worn messenger style like Holmes or as a backpack—and some low-heeled ankle boots. We recommend either the Tamzie Bootie ($139) from Nine West or Diesel's Buckle Mid Length Low Heel ($223) version.

Claudia Schiffer
Claudia Schiffer was not only poised to be mother of the year when she was seen dropping her children off at school in London, but also noted as weekend warrior extraordinaire in her oversized sweater and maroon pants combo. We love how she mixed her neutral cardigan, like Diesel's Miggy Sweater ($220), with fold-over boots and colorful accents, like her Balenciaga Sunday Bag ($2345) and pale-purple patterned scarf. While we are true worshippers of most things Balenciaga, we realize Schiffer's carryall is quite an investment. Instead, give your wallet a break and go for Lucky Brand's Large Patchwork Tote ($259), which boasts an equally eye-catching pattern. Next, reach for cords in an interesting color like Free People's Super Skinny Cords ($68) in Plum and tuck them into Frye's Owen Crepe Tall Boot ($298). Finally, finish your look with Matta's Pervinca Scarf ($110) and you're ready for a chic, yet lackadaisical day.

Heidi Klum
Heidi Klum showed us that catching up on weekend errands doesn't have to require sloppy attire, when she showed off a leisurely look on a Bristol Farms shopping expedition. The supermodel/TV host looked quite lovely in her long, layered shades of gray. Luckily, Klum's covetable and cozy outfit is easy to recreate. We recommend getting comfortable with ByCorpus' Pleated Sweater ($68) and Cheap Monday's Kajsa Scarf ($45). Top off your cold-weather ensemble with by snatching up a hat like Klum's: either Heritage 1981's Densley Knit Beret ($7), or the super yummy Charcoal Oak Cable Beanie ($162) from Hortensia will do. Slip on Jimmy Choo's Saki Sunglasses ($265) or the Keeden ($138) version by Kate Spade and you're ready to race through the grocery aisles in style!

Naomi Watts
While lunching with director Joel Schumacher in New York earlier this month, Naomi Watts was a perfect example of how to style one of our new favorite items—the field jacket. Her green-brown-grey off-duty palette looks laid-back yet fashionable, and we love the ombre accent of her messenger bag. We know when it comes to military-inspired outerwear there are endless iterations, but we particularly admire American Eagle's Soft Moto Jacket ($59.50) for its four-patch pockets and boxy, boyish silhouette. Additionally, since we do feel this an emerging trend worth the investment, we'd also snatch up Fjall Raven's Greenland Jacket ($350), perhaps the pivotal piece that launched the army jacket craze! As well, if we're learning anything from today's trendsetters it's that a scarf is an absolute must! Tie on Topshop's Super Fluffy Scarf ($20), and you'll have perfected your Watts-inspired loungey lunch look!

Sienna Miller
Actress and fashion plate Sienna Miller is known for her covetable ensembles, (and toting her Prada Saffiano & Tessuto Bag icon ($1550) wherever she goes) and her school-boy inspired style on a recent coffee run in New York is no exception. We love how she pared down more professional pieces, like her Topshop Blouse ($45), and made them perfect for a leisurely day! You can achieve the same unstudied look by starting with a pale-blue button down like Gap's Striped Roll-Up ($49.50) over Miller's own Twenty8Twelve Sienna Jean ($283) in Indigo. Next, opt for a shrunken blazer like Thayer's Double Breasted Blazer ($349), or J. Crew's Wool Schoolboy Blazer ($178). Keep warm with an Organic Scarf ($50), or for a bit of fun try a little fringe with Love Quotes' Scarf ($85) in gray. Finally, we couldn't end this installment without an ode to one of our all-time favorite sunglasses designers, Benjamin Eyewear. Miller's must-have shades are Deux Black ($325), from the master of sunnies himself!—Liza Kaplan

I'm an unconditional Olsen Sis fan! They've got down my faves - chic, glam and rock, all in the same package! Susu Paris Chic http://www.makinen.fr/susa/wordpress/

Katie's boots are also from Madewell

Who would have thought Heidi Klum could make herself look like a Hobo... If I had her body, even my comfy weekend clothes would be flattering! Oh well, I guess everyone is entitled to lazy days. www.bookofrandomness.com

Emma I respectfully disagree with you about our dear Heidi. She is such a minx, why she is she hiding behind all of those draped layers? Her accessory choices-- converse + knit hat --downgrade the boho-chic look she was attempting into a sad reincarnation of the mastery of the MKO. www.shanghaistylefile.com --> Shanghai FASHION!

Posted by: Dee |  2009-12-28 15:17:33

Love Katie's scarf. With alll of this snow, I really like to see some color in winter.

I like Agnyss' look best. Cute and completely un-sloppy, unlike some people *side eye at Katie Holmes* www.vivaswag.com

I second Rachel, what about Sienna's boots!? Where are they from?

Posted by: Vera |  2009-12-28 12:08:00

I love Heidi's outfit. Her sweater looks like an old ladies but it is actually by The Row, a luxury brand of basics. Their pieces go for thousands of dollars. She is pulling the old RICH lady look. For a sweater fairly similar (and much more similar than what WWW suggested is as Free People.

Posted by: Emma |  2009-12-28 12:03:02

Yes! Sienna's vintage boots are what make her outfit. I am simply wondering if there are ones similar to these available in stores today... Kwil

Posted by: Kwil |  2009-12-28 11:40:57

I was exited to see this then...BORING! Nothing new, nothing exiting. Lame.

Posted by: Llew |  2009-12-28 10:40:46

The boots make Sienna's outfit. Im sure they are vintage because they used to make them like that. But if not, I want that!!!!

Posted by: Millie |  2009-12-28 09:42:50

I, too, would like more information about Sienna Miller's boots. They are what makes her outfit interesting.

Posted by: Jameela |  2009-12-28 08:30:10

What about Sienna's boots??

Posted by: Rachel |  2009-12-28 07:44:57

I only really like Claudia and Naomi. I think Sienna's outfit is boring and I can't remember the last time I coveted anything she wore, she just doesn't inspire me anymore.
