We once thought that it took a strongly fashion-forward woman to wear a jumpsuit, but upon further consideration, we think it just takes a smart one. Yes, some all-in-ones make a big statement, but there are so many subtle styles available that it’s possible to find a suit for any situation.
The jumpsuit popped up on so many different spring runways it’s hard to keep track of all of their appearances. A few of our favorite examples include Stella McCartney (floral prints, spaghetti straps), Givenchy (multiple pockets, slightly cropped length), and Prada (silky plaid). We’ve spotted a wide range of celebrities wearing assorted jumpsuit styles as well. Pixie Geldof wore a short mustard playsuit with black tights for the launch of an H&M flagship store in London, while Erin Wasson chose one of our favorite runway looks—the aforementioned Prada—for a party in Los Angeles. Elettra Wiedemann and Helena Christensen both selected ultra long, wide-leg jumpsuits for a Swarovski cocktail party and lunch honoring Antony Todd, respectively. We like the orange pop of Weidemann’s belt and Christensen’s simple accessories. Our final example comes from the
recent queen of the all-in-one, Rihanna. She was spotted last month in Los Angeles wearing Stella McCartney’s ultra girly ruffled jumpsuit with an oversized pair of hoop earrings and YSL’s
Biarritz Sandals ($195).
As far as product goes, we found some simple playsuits and jumpsuits that are cute enough to make even the most fervent romper-hater reconsider their stance. One of the best pieces we’ve seen is Alexander Wang’s
Silk Racerback Playsuit
($266 on sale). We’d wear it with some nude sandals like farylrobin’s
Wee Punched & Studded Thongs
($170) for day and dress it up with a set of silver cuff bracelets for night. Paul & Joe
Prommier Jumpsuit ($248) is a bit more adventurous thanks to the snake print fabric. The soft gray and looser silhouette of Margo London’s
Felix Playsuit ($161) and the zipper details on the ankles of the Farahbella
Meme Jumpsuit ($335) are both notable too. Finally, we’d like to suggest checking out Topshop’s plentiful bounty of well-priced
playsuits. They’re stocking prints and solids, as well as long and short lengths, so you’re likely to find the perfect piece for your summer wardrobe.

Just bought a black short jumper from the Rogan for Target line. Not sure I can pull it off but going to try. After all, it made me feel girly and pretty and that's what fashion is all about, right? remember life is too short to be judgemental - with yourself and with other people. www.dafashionista.com

Who is the girl, who is wearing the orange belt?
Posted by: hellobaby | 2008-05-23 08:14:31
whoa! you guys are a tough crowd. i agree - rihanna's jumpsuit is all wrong but erin looks great and so does pixie and elettra. a midwife? that's a first. oh and btw, prada (erin's look) is always ahead of the curve so i'd expect to see more of this style.

erin wasson always looks like shes been out in the sun for days & has gotten horribly sunburned. & her hair always looks a mess. those roots! & um, why is rihanna still being featured? isnt this a "fashion" blog? ahem.

They do a lovely jumpsuit at Reiss which is the best and most flattering i've seen. I do agree that en large only stick insects can carry this look off and even they have work to do. I think Helena looks the best because of the fabric and shape and of course; her job! I think Pixie isn't the right shape to carry it off at all and she also looks like she's gurning from drugs! Rihanna simply looks like a clown; i wouldn't call it a jumpsuit i'd call it a curtain. No matter how beautiful Erin is I think she looks like a midwife. Elettra looks quite nice but I think that again is because it is shaped like a dress. To carry this look off i'd wear a binbag first to see if you could get away with that.

Oh, honey, no. If they don't look good on the leggy and gorgeous Erin, how will they look good on the rest of us?
Posted by: Bette | 2008-05-21 20:18:14
no. no no no no no no no.
Posted by: emily | 2008-05-21 20:07:00
Surprisingly, I like the first four outfits. I think they look really good on their body types. Rihanna, on the other hand, does not look so good. The jumper is a tricky contraption, but if you find one that looks good on you, I say where it. At the very least you could be a conversation starter :-)

NO! Jumpsuits/playsuits are NOT for everyone! Please, don't encourage that! Let's be honest, only those slender ones with an average to tall height can wear the full length ones and short ones should be worn by the good legged and small ass, gals. Please! Rihanna & Elettra remind me of clowns.

The only way I like rompers/jumpsuits is if they're paired with tights. Chloe Sevigny has been doing it for ages...and it's the only look I'd ever personally considered. So, I like Pixie's look...but Erin looks really chic, actually. I love her look...the shoe and bag are phenomenal. Rihanna, on the other hand, looks ridiculous. Those earrings are ridiculous. Angie Harmon (I may have spelled that incorrectly, and I'm proud in that) wore the exact romper as a night look and it didn't look bad at all. Rihanna's done a very bad thing to Stella. lol

I like jumpsuits. I think they look good on the right body type. I have no torso so they are an atrocity on me. But kudos to those that can pull them off!

these are horrible! and in another year all the fashion magazines will surely be looking back on this trend with horror and embarrassment

I have been known to wear the shorter onesies but I sort of feel like I'd need a nice strong drink before being persuaded to leave the house in a longer one. I do love the blue Stella one though...hmm...where's that drink... www.RunawayGallery.com

ahhh i LOVE jumpsuits, especially rompers. I'm sooo excited to wear them to music festivals this summer with gladiators and fun accessories. Thanks for the great selection of jumpsuits!

Jumpsuits are playful. Fashion is suppose to be Fun people!! If you don't like fashion then go back to wearing uniforms.

Elettra Weidmann is gorgeous!

rihanna looks rediculous, by the way. those hoops...and that jumpsuit..

i love jumpsuits..on models and stick thin figures...but not so much on me. you have to have the right body to do it. i love rompers though( to go to the beach or paired with tights and heels for night), i did a post on them a couple of weeks ago :) thefashionaddiction.blogspot.com comments are welcomed :)

Pixie pulls it off perfectly, as does the Erin :) But Rihanna fails... again.

While I think the playsuits featured are a bit "iffy," I personally ADORE the silk playsuits I purchased from Topshop several months back. They are perfect for Southern California climate and are comfortable and easy to dress up or down without looking like a slob. Also, I'm petite and my suits are mid-leg-length, halter style and do not shorten me at all. www.erika-obscura.blogspot.com

I don't know about these on the non-supermodel type figure. If you have either a short or long torso, you're going to look funny. I just don't know if this look is worth it. www.shinylittlethings.com

Love this trend! Erin's look is so cool, she always looks awesome and unique. I also like Elettra's. Helena looks nice but does it make her look too old? Oh...does anyone know who makes that fur bag Erin is carrying? Is it by Alexander Wang?
Posted by: jackie | 2008-05-20 11:46:39
I'm kind of over the jumpsuit trend.. i started wearing some over a year ago and i gotta agree with most of the comments here its very impractical for the restrooms. Anyhow since now apparently they're trendy I've completely outgrown them.
Posted by: quoi de neuf | 2008-05-20 11:28:36
how do you pee in those things?? jeez looks uncomfy.
Posted by: feisty | 2008-05-20 10:56:05
They're ok. I think a Jumpsuit is good only if its figure hugging, but it could be nice if it flows from the body only depending on the fabric.

This is so funny. Back in the 90s I used to wear one of these, I had a maroon jumpsuit with little white flowers on it. Wide legs, tie back, ew. Very Pentecostal chic. Just don't, girls -- wear a long skirt instead. I love the orange belt though.
Posted by: MEP | 2008-05-20 09:15:19
i only like pixie's but i could never pull it off, i think that very few people can
Posted by: mary | 2008-05-20 08:26:13
The thing I don't like about most jumpsuits is that they're loose-fitting across the body, I think it should be a bit more form fitting around the upper body/torso and then wide-legged. However, most of these just look...you know, off. I wouldn't mind Rihanna's if it weren't so baggy-looking but then again, I guess a tight fitting jumpsuit is just a bodysuit.

oh dear. this is what fashion has come to. woe is me. perhaps I am being a little bit over-dramatic. but no. if i want to look like a NASA astronaut i will try this look. however on a lighter note, if you've got the legs for it, wear the short ones.
Posted by: badhairday | 2008-05-20 06:14:41
SMART? Wrong. Jumpsuits are so impractical. Hello... going to the toilet is more trouble than the 'fashion' of it is worth.

JUMPSUITS ARE NOT A GOOD IDEA
Posted by: Alicen | 2008-05-20 05:50:42
WOW. this could not be any more unflattering or disgusting. when i saw all of these fugly things together i could not stop myself from saying HIDEOUS out loud in Schipol Airport.
Posted by: Disgusted | 2008-05-20 04:22:16
WWWD! These outfits should come with a warning: Rompers can look polished and unexpected if you are a lean, leggy girl with a pared-down chic look. In most other situations they can look cheap and childish. Exercise extreme caution in the jumpsuit department!

i love this look, however i don't think jumpsuits look good if you have a flat butt.
Posted by: jen | 2008-05-20 01:55:22
oh...my....god.......so hideous...pixie and helena are borderline not-hideous, erin looks so bad (not unusual tho')rihanna, what NOT to wear, oh god, just don't know what to say from there.
