Trend Report: Bowtie Blouses
Of all the seventies relics that were dusted off for this season (disco glam jumpsuits, jeans that are both high-waisted and wide-leg, and Lauren Hutton-style safari chic, for example) we’ve noticed that one subtle piece is currently enthralling celebrities and tastemakers alike—the bowtie blouse.
The softly romantic shirt turned up in totally different variations on the Spring 08 runways, which means there’s surely a blouse for anyone’s style. At Marc by Marc Jacobs, the neck-tie top was paired with a button-festooned skirt or with brightly-colored Brady Bunch-ish pantsuits (worn with matching hats, no less—groovy!). Anna Sui balanced the inherent femininity of pretty print bowtie blouses by showing them with menswear-influenced trousers and blazers. Even Roberto Cavalli showed an affinity for necks, as he presented a haute hippie seventies-style skinny suit with a sheer blouse that tied at the throat.
One of our favorite examples of how to wear this look comes courtesy of the very darling Rachel Bilson. We very much approve of how Bilson, seen above walking her pooch, wore her hair up—all the better to show off the neckline of the blouse! While this shirt looks great tucked into high-waisted pants or skirts (for that sexy secretary vibe), it also looks very fresh worn with skinny jeans, a la Bilson and Kate Moss. Speaking of which, it’s surely no surprise that Glossy Mossy lead the return of the neck-tie blouse. She tends to wear her blouses sans bow and instead lets the ends dangle down for a long, lean, low-fuss look. She’s seen above her own striped shirt for Topshop, which sadly, dear readers, is sold out. We also spotted both Michelle Trachtenberg and Sarah Jessica Parker trying out this top trend. Trachtenberg was seen wearing one on the set of Gossip Girl, while SJP wore a slightly prim blouse for an appearance on Conan.
There are a number of thoughtful bowtie blouses available now. One of our favorite versions is the straight-from-the-runway Penelope Dot Sleeveless Blouse
($230) in twilight blue from Marc by Marc Jacobs. Another chic choice is the Bow Detail Silk Blouse
($198) by Walter; it comes in gray and white, but we prefer gray. While it’s limited-edition and semi-difficult to find, the Picot Button-Front Shirt
($78) by Phillip Lim for the Gap is another cool option. Also check out the Veronica Cotton Shirt ($98) from French Connection. It’s quite darling and comes in four colors: honey pie, black, paloma grey, and Malibu pink.

Why is Michelle Trachtenberg so incredibly gorgeous 24/7? She always seems to be dressed impeccably, and she's not a bad actress to boot. Reppin' Gossip Girl! Does anyone know where I can find it since it's sold out on top shop apparently. this shirt is a great look you can dress it up or down i would want to wear this bloush with a high waist skirt or shorts. I love the bowtie blouses and am glad that more brands are carrying them this season! Libertine made a really cute one for the target Go line last year, that I wear all the time! i actually just bought a black sheer bowtie blowse myself!

and i can't believe you even allowed that michelle girl to be in it, she has no unique style whatsover. i'm not always sure bilson does either LOVE this post and EVERYONE in it. great choice! I love Michelle's look, the necklaces and shirt are great. Not sure about that shirt on Rachel. it is cute but not that great on her. Maybe one of the Olsen's would be able to give that shirt a bit of an edge, it's to pretty pretty on her.

And I love the way SJP does it. sjp looks sexy, kate should realise she is too old to wear those sunnies, she looks silly, rachel looks unusually frumpy (give up the geeky look and go back to the pretty classic look, suits you much better rach!), michelle always looks likes she's tried too hard, love marc jacobs....the king of kooky classics. that's my take wwwd.....but it's a better post thankfully! I love these bow blouses!!
I have some vintage pieces i think they are so granny-chic! Rachel Bilson looks gorgeous! I have this exact same look in my vintage ebay store right now! A hot pink (another now trend) mini dress with pleats and a floppy bow. Check it out.

Rachel looks cute and inspires me to never eat again. Look at those gappy little thighs! I love this look...I think even a shirt with a scarf tied in a bow under the collar would achieve a similar style (especially to the Rachel Bilson look)...I am always finding great scarves at thrift stores! I love the bow blouse. I have some awesome vintage pieces that were my nana's that are always in rotation! I'm thinking that Bilson is the only one who really pulls off this look. The rest look like trend followers. Bilson is cute as a button and skinny as a rail, but those low-rise jeans are not flattering on her AT ALL. yeah love the Bilson look. The rest aer okay. Oh how I wish I had the French Connection shirt to wear today. It's exactly what I'm in the mood for. Rachel looks adorable. You shoulda' put ms. Katie Holmes on this, she looked super hot when she wore it...still hate Rachel's bangs. j'adore I dig Bilson's look, but Moss & SJP look like tranny messes. Love this look, esp the way Ms Bilson has done it. She's such a cutie though, she could make anything look good. <3 |
