What They Wore Teen Choice Awards
Young Hollywood turned out in droves on Sunday for the taping of the Teen Choice Awards and today we’re pleased to present our own version of the show—featuring just our favorite outfits, of course!
Short hemlines had a major presence on the blue carpet (certainly for this story, anyway!), but Lauren Conrad went the opposite direction and wore an of-the-moment maxi dress of her own design. Her overall look could have delved too deeply into the sixties (patterned floor-length frock plus the center-parted twisted hair), but Conrad kept it modern by adding a skinny belt at her natural waist. Unfortunately the dress will not be available for purchase (it’s a one-of-a-kind item and Conrad’s donating it to charity).
One of the best looks at the event came from Kristen Bell, who wore a nude silk Oval Tank ($185) and a high-waisted fuchsia silk organza Pleat Front Mini ($385) from Jenni Kayne’s Resort 2009 collection, both of which will be available in Kayne’s Los Angeles boutique shortly. While her shell and skirt combo are certainly not your standard event attire, Bell totally pulled off her non-frock. We also love how she accessorized her look with a fantastic long Turquoise, Onyx, and Mother of Pearl Amrapali Necklace and two excellent fall pieces from Jimmy Choo: the Clue Nude Nappa Platform ($645) and the Char Clutch in Brown Eel ($1595).
We couldn’t have created this story without at least one Gossip Girl and Leighton Meester made the cut! She also chose a belted dress, though Meester’s is from fashion editor favorite, Lanvin. Miss Meester wore nearly $60,000 in Cartier jewelry—not bad—including a yellow gold and diamond Panther head ring with peridot eyes and a pair of Jimmy Choo’s Isis Platforms ($775).
The always-refreshing Rachel Bilson chose an icy blue Brian Reyes dress from the designer’s pre-spring 2009 collection. She extended the line of her leg by selecting a nude pair of platform sandals by Lanvin. It’s a smart move in general, as strappy sandals can cut off even the longest pair of legs and a genius idea when you’re petite like Bilson. Always on point with her accessories, Bilson chose an oversized pair of gold Amrapali Earrings and slim Marni bag to finish her look.
We were pleased to see Scarlett Johansson depart from her usual old-Hollywood style and embrace a more youthful look. The actress wore nude (but didn’t look subdued) on the blue carpet, turning up in a short Beaded Chiffon Dress
($1700) by Matthew Williamson (we found it in gray online). The romantic frock got some additional glamming up via a Sonia Boyajian Necklace and a hot purple eel pair of Jimmy Choo Gloss Platforms ($1110).
Finally, we have Jessica Stroup (who will be known around the WhoWhatWear.com office by her new 90210 name, Daphne Silver, any second now), who showed up in a summery and succulent orange Strapless Gathered Mini Corset Dress ($595) by D&G. Stroup smartly kept the focus on her tangerine frock by choosing a simple pair of cracked metallic leather Jimmy Choo Elipse Heels ($695) and understated gold earrings. We think her completely chic look would have made Brenda Walsh, Kelly Taylor, and Donna Martin proud.

lauren conrad is completely boring in the way she dresses. she is not a fashion icon. as for kristen bell, i'm not exactly sure why she is featured here. she looks cute.. nothing special. i personally thought vanessa hudgens looked fantastic. she wore a malandrino dress with gorgeous louboutin heels. i honestly was very surprised that she wasn't featured. sad.

I don't know why girls like Rachel and Leighton die their hair to tat non-descript light brown. They would look much prettier and much more striking as true brunettes. Must be an LA thing.

I think they all look stunning except ScarJo. I know she is blessed with a rack but she always picks dresses that make her look like she stuffs her bra.

i've already posted today, butttt i got a giggle out of how "a" didn't catch that "quoideneuf" was calling "JULIE" out on her spelling mistakes, not making the mistakes herself :P and a sidenote, the more i look at the pics, the more i am falling in love with bilson's shoes...

the only outfit i really like is rachel bilson's i like kristen bell's skirt; the accesories don't really do much for it, though. blake lively's purple dress was great! and katherine mcphee's was pretty; but it was kindof short.

Leighton's dress does not look especially great, nor does Kristen's outfit. They've had better. And Scarlett's dress? uhh. The other girls' dresses are pretty though. :)

quoideneuf, if you're trying to tell someone off, you're better off spellchecking instead of looking like a fool. On another note, I love LC's dress here. :) Scarlett looks weird in that dress though. :S I like Jessica's dress, even though I normally hate the colour orange. Some of the dresses are not flattering at all.

I like this look it is really fresh. All the girls look cute and polished for the most part. I hate to be on the Scarlett J hater team but she looks kind of gross in that picture or something.

Lauren Conrad, Rachel Bilson & Jessica Stroup take the prize - I like Laurens dress but im not sure it suits the teen choice awards - a cute flirty shorter dress would have maybe gone better but she still looked great! Bilson just overall looks really pretty love that colour mixed with her olive/pale skin tone.. Love love love Jessicas dress - The other girls were just meteoker.. Leighton has deffinatly seen better days.. I think you should have gone with Blake Lively her cute purple dress was fantastic! Hayden Paniettere also looked absoloutely stunning & I also loved Miley Cyrus' Rolling Stones tee over that flashy mini dress.. those are just my choices!

Although LC has a tendency to play it safe, I always enjoy her choices especially this printed maxi-dress because I just love maxi dresses and have been sporting them since I bought my first one in 2005. Rachel Bilson looks super cute and for once doesn't look overwhelmed in her outfit. As for the others, Leighton looks frumpy, I'm not sure Lanvin is big with the teen set anyhow...and Kristen just bugs me (I'm sorry I don't know why) but the new girl is rockin that mini, love the color. I want it in nail polish asap.

These girls all look pretty and classy. Although, I have to point out that the four girls on the left look like the members of a girl group like En Vogue or The Pointer Sisters - you know, where they have slightly different versions of the same basic look.

How could you not include Blake Lively!? I thought she looked flawless at the event. While I think Leighton looks gorgeous, the draping overwhelms her petite frame a bit. Blake would have been a much better choice.

lauren seems to have no variation, i find she often wears the same style of dresses for the red carpet and i must say im getting a bit bored. kristen looks cute but im not so crazy for the beads. rachel is the best dressed here by far. those shoes are stunnung. scarlett...enough said. and im not digging that shapless orange number, but her legs make it work.

get thee to a finishing school! i might just be the photos but these girls look really frumpy, i'm not into skin tight clothes but a shape would be good, scarlett is doing nothing for her chest, it looks like a mono boob. i don't know may be individually these work but clump shapelessness together and you get the hall of really nice looking potato sacks. nuff said.
