What They Wore: NY Fashion Week Part 1

New York City is bustling this week as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week brings in some of the world’s most fashionable faces—from young Hollywood trendsetters (Nicole Richie) to trend-creating editors from the big fashion books (Kate Lamphear) to the coolest muses (Alexandra Richards). Of course, of all the city’s amazing locales, Bryant Park is the mecca for spotting killer outfits not only on the runway, but off. Here are some of the best styles we’ve seen wandering about the tents so far, in our first installment of What They Wore: Fashion Week.

1. Joy Bryant: Joy was a vibrant presence at the Matthew Williamson show, clad in one of the designer’s colorful tiered dresses. She offset the dressiness of her frock by adding a pair of lace-up Minnetonka boots for a casually cool look.

2. Emma Roberts: The darling and well-dressed actress Emma Roberts showed up to the Brian Reyes show wearing the designer’s breezy chiffon blouse. She kept her look age-appropriate with a pair of black Ksubi jeans, dual-colored Miu Miu shoes and a vintage beanie hat.

3. Jessica Stam: Unsurprisingly, major model Jessica Stam looked as beautiful off the runway as she does on it. Seen here in Bryant Park arriving to walk the runway in the Rosa Cha show, she wore a semi-sheer gray tank and cuffed denim shorts with slight destruction detail, both Alexander Wang. Carrying a Balenciaga bag, she sported an edgy cropped leather jacket and brown T-strap flat sandals that are perfect for pounding the pavement between shows.

4. Peaches Geldof: Spotted front row at the Y-3 show was Brit it-girl Peaches Geldof. Geldof paired a graphic-printed tee with American Apparel leggings and a tuxedo blazer from Topshop. She completed the outfit with Topshop ankle boots and a sparkly headband from Pas Comme Les Moutons (pascommelesmoutons.blogspot.com) for a youthful (yet sophisticated) look.

5. Rachel Zoe: Celebrity stylist and new reality-tv-star Rachel Zoe was seen en route to the Jill Stuart show, attired in a golden-yellow frilly blouse tucked into a vivid, calf-length skirt—both vintage YSL. If that wasn’t enough to make us salivate, she nailed it with her excellent accessories, including a brown pair of stacked YSL Tribute Sandals, Brian Atwood clutch, and her signature Tom Ford sunnies.

6. Mary-Kate Olsen: Always one to watch (or shamelessly style-stalk as we do at WWW), Mary-Kate was seen in attendance at the Proenza Schouler show in the designers’ jacket worn over a short white tunic. MK accessorized with a Proenza bag (sure to be the next must-have tote) and Givenchy sandals for a clean, chic look.

7. Charlotte Ronson: Posing for pictures outside her own Spring 2009 show, Charlotte Ronson wore a floral blouse and strappy black shoes from her own collection with a pair of tattered, cuffed Levi jean shorts for an ensemble that was stylishly laid-back.

8. Irina Lazareanu: Canadian model Irina Lazareanu was present at The Gramercy Park Hotel for a Vogue-hosted party in honor of Maria Sharapova’s collaboration with Cole Haan. Wearing a floor-length dress by Missoni, Lazareanu accessorized with a sequin-embellished cloth headband and a small black clutch.

9. Erin Wasson: Seen outside the William Rast show, designer Erin Wasson looked effortlessly cool in a gauzy sack dress by L.A. designer, Raquel Allegra (available at Assembly in NYC). Erin kept her accessories minimal, piling on silver bracelets of her own design (they’re from her collection, LowLuv) and wearing bold ankle boots by LD Tuttle.

10. Alexandra Richards: Sitting front row at BCBG Max Azria, model Alexandra Richards brought some youthful flair to the tents. In a green wrap dress from Naf Naf Vintage in Paris, slouchy Helmut Lang suede boots, and child-like heart-shaped sunglasses from Urban Outfitters, we loved her cheery style.

11. Kate Lamphear: ELLE fashion editor Kate Lamphear was seen at the Bryant Park tents wearing a graphic printed tunic over a pair of black pants. Blackberry and pencil in hand, she was both work and fashion-ready in these strappy, studded sandals.

12. Nicole Richie: Ms. Richie was spotted leaving The Carlyle Hotel in NYC wearing a James Perse tank tucked into in a sleek, leather-wrap tulip skirt by Marc Jacobs and black Pierre Hardy peep-toe booties. She added some shine to the outfit’s monochromatic scheme donning a crown-like, crystal-embellished headband by Stacey Lapidus. —Allison Wood

there are some terrible, terrible things happening in these pictures.

Rachel Zoe looks like an leathery Cougar. But I LOVE Erin Wasson. Can you tell me are they the same boots from here?http://basementclothes.blogspot.com/2008/09/flocking-together.html I don't see the feathers? Maybe she cut them off!

        Posted by: Nicole  |  2008-09-11 18:57:52

@lianna they do look unbathed, but from what I hear it was really humid in nyc and that is probably why they all look sorta wilted. Also, I am Sick of headbands, at least the headbands above.

plugging a blog is just what you do on sites like this. Its how search engines start to recognize it. If you read anything sites or blogs where you can comment, blogs plugs are all over them

        Posted by: Mon  |  2008-09-11 16:47:23

Oh my, Lianna is so right. They *do* look un-bathed. Maybe that's the new way to present yourself in public. In other news, I want Kate's shoes.

        Posted by: Aitch  |  2008-09-11 16:14:01

They all look like they haven't bathe for days. bleh. except joy bryant(but for some reason i don't think that's her), emma roberts, and rachel zoe. i like their outfits.

        Posted by: lianna  |  2008-09-11 15:36:15

Irina looks seriously great, as usual! really admire her style, it's very inspiring. :)

        Posted by: Amy  |  2008-09-11 15:18:52

Nicole looked way better at the Proenza show! I don't think she looks bad here, its just not my favorite and I think she looked amazing at the Proenza show. I love Rachel's YSL skirt and shoes, but I think the size and layers of the ruffles on the top overwhelm her small frame. As a really petite person I try to stay away from thing like that, but maybe it looked better in person. I also like Stam, Erin, Kate, & MK's looks. While I like Emma's shoes something about that girl just bores me to death. I feel that way about Emmy Rossum too, but I can't explain exactly what it is about either of them that just puts me to sleep. They both almost sort of look like they try too hard or something, just too perfect.

        Posted by: bella vita  |  2008-09-11 15:18:13

all these girls are seriously cute in their own ways, i just don't really feel inspired by any of the style here, i feel i have seen the same stuff , on the same people, over and over. and it all looks a bit tired. probably in person i would be most impressed by rachel and irina because they just look more chic and groomed, and more glamorous. and charlotte is just way too tan still, i wanna scrub her.

        Posted by: sarah  |  2008-09-11 15:15:19

I really like Jessica Stam's look, with the not-too-short shorts. It's sort of reminds of the baggy boyfriend jean look. Also, I think Irina looks fabulous.

        Posted by: ana  |  2008-09-11 14:51:20

I love Erin and Nicole's look!!! Yes, that Raquel Allegra dress is so hot, but I can't afford, lol...3rd goes to Irina.

        Posted by: maryda  |  2008-09-11 14:19:18

i think ive seen enough of peaches! if she weren't a bit famous (for doing what again..?) she wouldnt be recognized as anything but an urban outfitted hipster teen! ugh! everyone else is looking marvelous, however!

        Posted by: amy  |  2008-09-11 14:11:03

this is beside the point, but I really get sick of everyone trying to plug their own blogs on the comments here. we don't care. as for the post, gotta love nyc fashion week, i think irina's missoni hits all the right notes.

Peaches and J.Stam are the best here for me. Richie's skirt just doesn't do it for me. www.RunawayGallery.com

        Posted by: Runaway Gallery  |  2008-09-11 12:53:44

I think I like everything except Charlotte Ronson's look. Wasson looks so cool, but I could not imagine actually walking around with a sheer dress on that showed my black underwear! Brave! www.shinylittlethings.com

        Posted by: julie  |  2008-09-11 12:33:18

I love the majority of these outfits. Richie's skirt is VERY cool. Kate L is always a fav!! I'm getting tired of the headbands though. stylenowhere.blogspot.com

How does Erin look so freaking awesome all of the time? She is so not a try hard, i just adore her.

the image doesn't show!

        Posted by: y  |  2008-09-11 11:13:40

Yikes... I think most of the looks are way too over the top and feel contrived, except for Jessica Stam.

Aaaaawwww I wanna see! Where's the picture?
