What They Wore: New York Fashion Week / Part Deux

Considering that London, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks are still on the horizon, it's easy to consider the New York shows the amuse-bouche of the S/S 10 collections. Though we are eager to see what the European cities serve up in terms of design, when it comes to behind-the-scenes outfits, we think that New York is the crème of the crop. Of course, with so many amazing ensembles on display, we couldn't narrow it down and risk skipping any of our favorites. Instead, we opted to come back for seconds with today's installment of What They Wore: Fashion Week part deux! We hope you find today's sartorial feast as satisfying as we do!

1. Georgia Jagger
Blonde bombshell, model, and rock progeny Georgia Jagger looked purr-fectly glam at the AnOther Magazine and Hudson Jeans dinner at the Jane Hotel wearing one of our favorite fancy trends: peplum pieces. The dramatically draped and gathered fabric of her vintage leopard Vivienne Westwood jacket proves that adding a statement coat can instantaneously update your black basics for a fresh evening ensemble. Though you can't get your hands on her Hudson jeans—they are from the brand's 2010 spring capsule collection and not yet available—you can get your feet into her ruby red Christian Louboutin Platform Pumps ($735). Just remember to mix your animal-inspired outerwear and standout shoes with plenty of attitude for a flawless and flirty fall look.

2. Kirsten Dunst
We have gotten used to seeing Kirsten Dunst tooling around town in her signature off-duty hipster style, so when we spotted her front row at the Rodarte S/S 10 show, we were totally impressed with her dressed-up attire. Rocking a metallic dress (one of our favorite fall fabric trends) from the Sisters Mulleavy's beloved line, Dunst looked adorable and edgy at the same time. The Spiderman actress' dress is the ideal directional cocktail frock, plus we like how she paired her selection with opaque tights and black Prada shoes. The results are weather-appropriate and subtle, while still bringing the chic, in other words: magnifique!

3. Poppy Delevigne
Brian Reyes is proving to be one of the favored designers of the young and fashionable set—and for good reason! His clothes manage to convey a sense of sophistication without sacrificing youthful energy and playfulness. While attending the designer's most recent show, Poppy Delevigne, a British socialite and model, epitomized this spirit when she wore a marbleized silk chiffon Cuff Waist Dress ($895) from his fall collection. She also added her own twist on the runway ready piece by mixing it with a studded All Saints leather jacket and Alexander McQueen booties. Clearly, this English rose is one to watch for her ability to tweak even the most delicious designer duds!

4. Mary Kate Olsen
While attending an after party for an art exhibition at Indochine this weekend, Mary Kate Olsen looked pretty in an extra-long vintage peasant blouse. Her amazing embroidered piece is delicate and directional (despite the dominance of the eighties and nineties runway references of late, Olsen seems to be an early-adopter of the haute hippie look that we spotted on some of our favorite S/S 10 runways like Altuzarra and Erin Wasson x RVCA)! She smartly balanced her earthy seventies-inspired selection with a pair of intricate Prada heels, lots of pendant necklaces, and multiple rings to keep the look modern and representative of her personal style!

5. Rachel Bilson
Rachel Bilson, it seems, can do no wrong when it comes to dressing. While attending the shows at the Bryant Park tents this week, she opted for a rainbow-colored Diane von Furstenberg print dress from the designer's 2010 Resort collection. With so many standout elements (neon colors, animal pattern, and intricate draping), this garment has the potential to be a bit too busy, yet Bilson pulls it off beautifully. She smartly grounded her fantastic frock with simple accessories, like black booties, a leather shoulder bag, and a classic pair of Wayfarers. Well played!

6. Olivia Palermo
Though menswear-inspired pieces were a huge sartorial story last season, it seems as though this trend will continue to be prevalent this fall. We couldn't be more pleased, especially considering how effortlessly chic and wearable this look is! Olivia Palermo rocked one such borrowed-from-the-boys ensemble to the tents this weekend, achieving that perfectly laid-back yet polished power suit effect. She elevated her tailored Diesel blazer and vintage Escada pants with a Club Monaco brooch, lemon-hued Zara sandals, and a Chloe bag. Though sculpted and strong shoulders were making a scene at New York fashion week, it was nice to see The City-star showing her appreciation for the classics!

7. Nicky Hilton
Stud-embellished denim and leather established their popularity this past spring, but it seems that these two closet workhorses not only look smart for fall, but they'll remain cool next season too. Just take the outfit Nicky Hilton wore to sit front row at the Charlotte Ronson show, for example. The heiress-turned-handbag-creator looked edgy in an acid-washed and studded dress from Ronson's S/S 10 line, which she wore with a Kate Moss for Topshop leather jacket and Christian Louboutin ankle booties. The overall effect was casual yet fashion-conscious, which perfectly suits this well-dressed designer's style.

8. Carine Roitfeld
Carine Roitfeld, Paris Vogue's impossibly chic Editor-In-Chief, is one of the most iconic and stylish women in the world. Though this statement may seem a bit hyperbolic, her signature bondage heels, body-con Alaia dresses, and statement coats are recognized the world over as the embodiment of high fashion and shorthand for what every fashionable femme wants to wear. So we were pleasantly surprised to see that our favorite editrix has traded in her dominatrix-inspired ensembles for something a bit preppy to wear to Marc Jacobs' S/S 10 show. Though it isn't her first time rocking a khaki pencil skirt, we love how she mixed this sand-colored staple with a light blue shirt, worn with a turned-up collar and rolled sleeves. We've been having a sartorial love affair with the boyfriend shirt for months, but now that Roitfeld has been spotted wearing a more fitted version, we fully expect this look to dominate for fall.

9. Cecilia Dean
As the co-founder and editor of Visionaire, a multi-format and limited-edition fashion and art publication, we have always admired Cecilia Dean's work as well as her legendary status as one of New York's most innovative style mavens. The stunning downtown doyenne was spotted at the Marc Jacob show looking ladylike and on-trend in an iridescent print blouse and pleated skirt. We feel quite certain that metallic pieces will rule this fall, so we recommend you invest in a shiny top or skirt, just remember that if you are going to wear a boldly printed ensemble, keep the accessories to a minimum, and the silhouette simple!—KM

MK,Rachel, and Nicky look the best!!

Georgia Jagger looks incredibly chic. That girl knows how to subtley play with prints and color (leopard print jacket and ruby hued heels on a black pallette. to die!). Kirsten Dunst looks amazing as well... that girl can pick a dress! MK's outfit looks fresh while still being totally HER. I also love Olivia's shoes.<3

I love rachel bilson. she's too cute! such great style

Agree with everything m said. My favourite looks are Kirsten Dunst and Poppy Delevigne, also like Nicky's outfit for once; I don't like ms. Dean's outfit, without the plastic-y sheen it would be boring and with it it's weird, the shoes don't really go that well either. And while I think Mary-Kate looks beautiful, her look seems slightly dated, I wish she would go for something fitted, for a change.

If anyone is a fan of the 'Model off Duty' look or french brand IRO, i'm selling a new vest http://shoesandyourmom.blogspot.com/2009/09/saym-clothes-edition-model-off-duty.html

        Posted by: steph  |  2009-09-17 16:03:16

contrary to some, i think Carine looks fantastic and is showing that you don't have to be 20 something with stupid shoes to look 'impossibly chic'.

        Posted by: sarah  |  2009-09-17 15:00:30

The best one there is Georgia Jagger by far!

        Posted by: Amy  |  2009-09-17 14:13:26

Carine Roitfeld looks like a manager at the Gap; all she's missing is a pair of their ugly espadrilles. Olivia Palermo: blah blah blah. Her face oozes boringness. Jade Jagger is trying waaayyy too hard to go with the "i don't give a shlt i'm a rock and roll kid" look and it shows.

        Posted by: m  |  2009-09-17 13:22:00

Olivia is my girl otm! She is just so effortlessly chic. Also, love Kirsten's cutesy metallic dress, interesting colour but works well against the staple black opaques. x

Definitely loving the looks on this batch of ladies more than your last post. Rachel Bilson and Kirsten are my favorites. Nicky tried something new, but I'm not too sure about that shade of denim with the leather, although separately the pieces are nice.

Rachel Bilson's look is super cute! Kwil

        Posted by: Kwil  |  2009-09-17 12:40:03

Georgia's hair colour is stunnninnggg. I feel like Kirstens dress clashes with her hair/skin colour. mary kate and rachel bilson look so casual, but cute. Olivia's suit is really nice, I love how she used two different types of gray/patterns, but I dont like that she cuffed her pants.I"m in SO MUCH LOVE with Nickys dresss.. oh laaa laaaaa! Carine's outfit is amazing for her age, and so stylish, love it.
