As much as we adore sharing our seasonal shopping obsessions and waxing rapturous about the latest trends, we’re not spotlight hogs. Despite appearances to the contrary, there are few things that give us greater glee than turning things over to a guest expert. Today
Insiders’ Picks is particularly thrilling, as we’ve got double the knowledge and twice as nice products, thanks to a pair of blue chip stylists—Emily Current and Meritt Elliott.
The ladies (who work together under the styling alias, Maude) have forged a truly impressive partnership. Whether they’re working on fashion editorials for magazines like
Nylon or creating memorable outfits for clients such as Mandy Moore and Emma Roberts, Current and Elliott always bring a playful, intelligent spirit to whatever they touch. Their finished looks are almost like the styling equivalent of a Sofia Coppola film or a Jenny Lewis album: deeply personal, a little quirky, and completely wonderful.
Banking on their remarkable fashion acumen and reputation as preeminent tastemakers, we turned to team Maude as a resource for spring product suggestions. The duo didn’t disappoint, kindly giving us a list of everything they adore right now. Their selections are simply perfect, just what we’d expect from such a talented team!
See by Chloe Secret Garden Jersey Dress

($165)
Current and Elliott picked this darling jersey dress from See by Chloe because it’s conducive to so many styling possibilities. In addition to being extremely versatile, we also like the frock’s built-in bustier-like print and budget-friendly price tag!
Givenchy Lace Booties
($690)
At WhoWhatWear.com, we're constantly on the lookout for cute flats that will add polish to our casual outfits, but can also work with fancier ensembles. To our delight, these Givenchy booties do just that! While pricey, they’re so special that a splurge might be in order!
Made Her Think Pyramid Totem Knuckle Buster Ring ($264)
Today’s styling duo relies on Made Her Think's genius pieces to implement a little edge into everyday attire. While they adore the above studded ring, the ladies also recommended the
Double Band Chain Ring ($132) in sterling silver.
MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo ($14)
Having tried and tested a plethora of red lipsticks, Current and Elliott give this MAC shade their highest recommendation. The much-loved crimson color will elevate any look—seriously!
Eugenia Kim Charles Hat ($311)
The ladies love to add a dash of whimsy to whatever they wear or style, hence the top hat. Their favorite chapeau will add a playful element to any look and is available by custom order (just email orders@eugeniakim.com).
Revlon 3D Extreme Mascara in Black
($13)
"We love lashes," Current enthuses. "The chunkier and more sixties doll-like, the better!" To achieve said beauty look, they recommend Revlon 3D Extreme Mascara. It's a high quality and affordable addition to any make-up bag!
Rebecca Minkoff Crush Bag ($295)
Everyone loves Rebecca Minkoff's bags, including today's insiders! The ladies of Maude suggest wearing this smallish, studded bag with a ruffled or floral dress for a girly-meets-grunge effect.
Kiki De Montparnasse Caftan de Nuit ($550)
Leave it to stylists to know the best secrets. We had no idea that Kiki De Montparnasse, the luxe lingerie boutique, carried clothes that could be worn outside of the bedroom! This semi-sheer, lace-detailed top is a lovely investment piece and can easily be dressed up or (way) down!
Current/Elliott Super Slouchy Skinny Jean ($238)
In addition to their styling work, our Insiders also have their own cult denim label—
Current/Elliott, of course! Launched last summer, their best-known boyfriend jeans became an instant classic and celebrity favorite in about five seconds flat. But the style this pair prefers is the Super Slouchy Skinny ("It's the evolution of the boyfriend silhouette,” Current says.). In other words: buy them now, because they're about to become wildly popular!
Patsy Cline Album: The Definitive Collection ($11)
Finally, to wrap up today’s story, we have something slightly unexpected: an album recommendation. Current and Elliott adore Patsy Cline’s crooning and this remastered collection is the perfect introduction to the country star’s best loved classics and standards.
If you haters are so opinionated about the what these amazing stylists suggest, then why are you on this website? If you know what style is, then you would not have to consult the web. Current/Elliott jeans are flattering and so comfortable. You do not have to have a size 2 to look good in them either. I love my elephant bells and skinny slouch. Love these ladies.

I LUH-HUV all of it! Current Elliott knows whats up! Now, if I could only get that paycheck I've been waiting for... I'd go out and buy it all (Especially the jeans and the ring!)

Great post! Besides the See dress I want everything! The booties and the ring are absolutely brilliant!

Those Givenchy flats are gorge! I can't believe how perfect they are. Great pick. I must get them NOW!

The only thing that I can say that I really like is the bag and the shoe.

When i happened upon this post i was like A TOP HAT! I love these two girls. Red lips and Patsy. I just love this whole thing. Can i borrow 700 bucks for those booties please?

Love the wash of the denim and super soft look and feel!
Posted by: PennyK | 2009-02-26 17:40:46
Feeling kind of half-and-half on this one. I love the ring and the bag, and the shoe is interesting. I like the style of the jeans, but not so much the wash.

Current Elliott jeans might be the new Calvin Klein's of today. They look great on any body shape, am i the only one that thinks so? http://noirblancetrougepartout.blogspot.com/

Those fade-out skinny jeans would make such good outfits with heels and flats alike. btw the little SEND TO FRIEND envelope at the corner of the post reminds us of our Love Letter charm: http://tinatang.com/charms/goldcharms/ch_14ylclvl.html . :) As always great picks!

These girls are adorable. I live in their jeans. I wear the new skinny slouch everyday. They look great with flats and heels. The leggings are a perm staple. They're super comf. I think their picks are chic and playful...just like them. They look like girls who you'd love to hang out with! Unlike some of these commenters. It's fashion people...have a sense of humor! These girls obviously do. That's why everyone loves them!

To the negative ninnys: It's great to have your own option and have appeal to your own style. But can we all agree?... a refreshing view other than our own, a twist on styles we have never explored, (paired by the fact we seek out this kind of guidance to begin with)… must be all the more reason to applaud the expertise of these two inspiring ladies. The only advice I can give is to take a step out of your box, realize that your 5 yr old gap jeans are not the epitome of a current trend and listen to the style advise of those who create it. If C/E’s own success does not entice you, just try on a pair of their jeans yourself… and I promise you, Milo (of said capitalized comments preceding), right after you hear me calling for my golden retriever of your namesake, you WILL be asking for more.

Love that they picked Patsy! My love for her is indescribable.

i met the Maude girls at a party in NY during fashion week and they just couldn't have been sweeter. They were dressed so cute with all this leather and lace. It is so cool to watch nice people succeed!

The only thing that I can say that I really like is the bag and the shoe.

Emily Current and Meritt Elliot are seriously amazing! Their picks are spot on! Anyone who doesn't think so just doesn't get it... Their denim is the best on the market and worth every penny. I live in their legging and elephant bell jeans! These girls are ahead of the curve and on top of all the trends...

I think these picks have a great mood! they have a theatrical feeling that is really now. Check out the way they style their jeans on www.currentelliott.com. These girls have been getting a lot of press on the way they make jeans look fresh again.

Those jeans are amazing! These girls have serious style. I must have the Charles hat....! Now if I could only get them to dress me in the morning... Oh well a girl can dream!

Wow, evil responses! Take it easy ladies. These picks are totally cute and I'm super excited about the jeans. The ring is sick and Patsy?! Well, she's just a little piece of heaven.

dearest ms. emily current and ms. meritt elliott, to whomever you are being stylists for i send my deepest condolences. aside from the makeup and maybe just maybe the handbag, not even kate moss herself could wear one of these pieces and make it look good. and everyone knows miss moss could step out in a bin bag one morning and the women of the world would follow in her footsteps.

I agree with the ruby woo/M.A.C suggestion. I've been wearing it for 2 years now. Its great. Theyjeans look like they fit fine but im not to keen on the wash. The givenchy flats are great but that price tag isn't at the moment. Feature a similar lace up bootie/sandal that has a more accessible price.

Maude is the best! Leave it to them to find inspiration in everything from rock n roll to glam lingerie. Lucky us to get to peek inside their fabulous finds....

totally agree with the Ruby Woo recommendation, it's such an amazing lipstick. my search for the perfect red ended when i bought a tube of it!
Posted by: ragtag | 2009-02-26 10:09:46
that dress looks like something you'd find at walmart. however, LOVE the bag.
Posted by: thegreenfairy | 2009-02-26 10:05:42
I LOVE those jeans. i want them now!
Posted by: Sarah | 2009-02-26 09:42:03
I love these girls. They are super cute and the picks are fun! I have always noticed their styling in magazines. It is clever and unique. I want this kiki caftan. They have cute style.
Posted by: dani | 2009-02-26 09:20:14
Meh. Don't really love any of them... those jeans look super unflattering. Also, that mascara is crap. I have it and never use it because it clumps like nothing else I've ever seen.
Posted by: fashi0nlover | 2009-02-26 09:01:19
who spends $700 for shoes to 'run around town in?'
Posted by: taylor | 2009-02-26 08:44:56
Cute picks! I love the top and the bag.
Posted by: MEP | 2009-02-26 08:12:14
I looove the C/E jeans. They're the exact style I'm looking for. Too bad about the $250 price tag... http://www.thatsjustmybag.onsugar.com
