The last show of New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2027 may have walked the runway, but it's hardly done and dusted. There's much to analyze, such as the trends that came to fruition, and with a packed schedule of 63 runway shows throughout the week, there's plenty to work with.

Among the most highly anticipated events of the week was the return of Diane von Furstenberg to the schedule, under the helm of new Artistic Director Henry Zankov. Also populating the schedule were NYFW mainstays such as Khaite, Kallmeyer, Tory Burch, Calvin Klein Collection, Altuzarra, Proenza Schouler, and Ralph Lauren (which was technically off-season, showing the night before NYFW kicked off). Despite the differences among all 63 designers and a handful of presentations, we spotted more than a few styles in common. Consider this your cheat sheet of the biggest trends to hit the runways so that you and your closest will be prepared well before 2027 begins.

Cobalt Craze

When it came to NYFW color trends, there was a clear winner: cobalt blue, also known as Yves Klein blue. If you're thinking that cobalt is already a trend, you're certainly not wrong. It's been rising steadily this year, and the only place to go from here is up. Countless designers included cobalt in their collections—Kallmeyer, TWP, Ralph Lauren, Diotima, and Calvin Klein Collection, among others. At times, it was just a pop of blue, but more often than not, designers embraced the trend with cobalt as the focal point of several looks.

Skirts That Take Up Space

While column skirts were still present and accounted for on the S/S 27 runways, it quickly became clear that a new shape was prepping for a comeback: full skirts. Primarily in a midi length, full skirts of every fabric, print, and color imaginable were featured in multiple collections—even Khaite, which is commonly known for its sleek silhouettes.

Liquid Satin

Taffeta commanded everyone's attention in 2026, but according to the spring runways, 2027 will be all about liquid satin. In contrast to the stiffer structure of taffeta, liquid satin glides over and moves with the body. The fabric was spotted on runways as varied as Ralph Lauren, Sandy Liang, Cult Gaia, and DVF.

The Corset Comeback

Corsets often cycle in and out of trend status, and for spring 2027, they're undoubtedly the former. The corsets featured at Altuzarra, Khaite, Wiederhoeft, and more were more romantic and elegant than the lingerie-esque ones of seasons past. Interesting details such as peplum trim, appliqués, mixed fabrics, and off-the-shoulder layering stood out.

Colorful Car Coats

The car-coat trend isn't going anywhere, which was confirmed by the S/S 27 runways. The classic spring outerwear style made multiple appearances, but the difference for the coming season is that instead of neutrals, it appeared in bright colors, pastels, and prints. They added life to every look they were a part of.

Daytime Sequins

Sequins may not be all that groundbreaking, but the concept of sequins for daytime kind of is. On the spring runways, sequined pieces were often paired with basics, such as the tank with Bermuda shorts at Cult Gaia, or subtly, such as the scarf belt at Zankov. With strategic styling, sequins can look unexpectedly cool as opposed to fancy.

Modern-Day Jacquard

Jacquard is one of the most opulent fabrics out there, but the 2027 version of jacquard is far more accessible. Multiple designers, among them Proenza Schouler and Ralph Lauren, constructed modern silhouettes (such as the square-neck midi dress at Calvin Klein Collection) with jacquard instead of, say, poplin or crêpe. The ornate texture adds interest to an outfit and looks quite expensive, which explains why it was associated with the aristocracy in the early 1800s.

Sculptural Ruffles

Ruffles have a reputation for being soft and romantic, but the ruffles of NYFW S/S 27 were more architectural than anything else. Structured and at times peplum-like, ruffles adorned dresses, skirts, tops, and jackets at Carolina Herrera, Khaite, and Kallmeyer, to name a few.

Tactile Texture

Every fashion designer knows that a surefire way to make a piece of clothing more special is to give it some texture. Whether woven, feather-adorned, fringed, appliquéd, or puckered, interesting textures were spotted on pretty much every runway at NYFW S/S 27. If the thought of a sky-blue camisole covered in feathers or a cobalt dress covered in fluffy fringe (both seen on the runway at Diotima) sounds appealing to you, 2027 is going to be a good year.

After months of barely-there layers and summer ease, I'm ready for the ritual of getting dressed again—the denim, the polished accessories, the slightly impractical heels. This season, my shopping list is shaping up to be a study in contrasts. I want the timeless things, certainly, but I want them with a twist: a classic top-handle bag rendered in rich black leather, a pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses that feel inherited, straight-leg jeans primed to replace every other pair in my closet. Then there are the pieces that exist purely to make an outfit more interesting, like Jimmy Choo's polka-dot snakeskin-effect pumps and a Dries Van Noten bustier that demands to be worn under a jacket or paired with denim.

The mood is less about a single fall trend and more about creating a wardrobe with personality. I'm drawn to silhouettes that feel familiar but slightly personality driven. The bags are structured. The eyewear is graphic. The shoes are impactful. What's actually making it into my cart? Some Gucci and Celine. Balenciaga and Dries Van Noten sophistication and the kind of denim I suspect I'll wear three times a week. Consider this my fall 2026 wardrobe.

There are sneakers you buy because you need them, sneakers you buy because they are everywhere, and sneakers that seem to disappear the moment they arrive. Enter the Celine/Reebok Freestyle Lo: the sneakers that have turned one of Reebok's most recognizable silhouettes into a cult item. First introduced by Reebok in 1982 and long associated with the era of aerobics, the Freestyle Lo has now been given a distinctly Parisian makeover under Celine Creative Director Michael Rider, and suddenly, sneakers with four decades of history feel like the most covetable shoes of the season.

The premise is pretty brilliant. Take the archival Freestyle Lo, strip it back to its essential shape, reinterpret it in supple lambskin, add Celine's unmistakable branding, and offer it in a tightly edited palette ranging from optic white and black to butter yellow, peanut, oxblood, and fluo red. Rider's vision for Celine has been through the lens of Parisian style codes and American heritage, and nowhere is that comingling more apparent than here.

The Celine/Reebok partnership officially arrived in September, transforming the sportswear classic into a luxury collector's item. After the launch, sizes and colorways disappeared rapidly, with the sneakers selling through much of their stock almost immediately in some markets. In other words, the hardest part may not be deciding whether you want the shoes—it may be finding a pair.

THE CAMPAIGN

FREESTYLE LO SNEAKERS BY CELINE/REEBOK

If you live in New York City, there are a few destinations that are popular for quick weekend getaways, such as the Hamptons and the Poconos. I even wrote about Greenport on Long Island's North Fork earlier this summer. But there's one region that's often at the top of the list: upstate. It's the obvious choice for a low-stakes change of pace within a short drive or train ride.

Going upstate can mean visiting the Catskills or the Adirondacks, but one of the go-tos for New Yorkers is Hudson in the Hudson River Valley since it's right off the Amtrak. (Other popular towns nearby include Beacon, Cold Spring, Kingston, Rhinebeck, and Woodstock.) For a recent two-night trip, I tried out the area's buzziest new opening: Pocketbook Hudson Hotel and Baths.

When I told my best friend where I was staying, she gushed about how badly she's wanted to go ever since seeing friends post about it on Instagram following its opening last November. The hotel has been embraced by New York's wellness community due to its bathhouse with thermal pools, a steam room, classes, and spa treatments, as well as artists for its focus on art and design.

Ahead, see inside my Hudson stay for your next escape from the city, including what to pack and my favorite places to eat.

Hudson's Chicest Hotel

Pocketbook is located at 549 Washington Street, a few blocks from Warren Street—the town's main strip filled with shops, galleries, and restaurants. According to the guidebook in my room, "Pocketbook Hudson inherits its name from the Pocketbook Factory, a whole city block of textile manufacturing built in 1885 and operating until 1978. Now listed on the National Historic Register, we have embraced this expansive and industrious history through thoughtful art- and design-forward restoration, where the past communes with the future."

To get there, I left on a Friday afternoon and took a just-over-two-hour Amtrak train from Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station, returning on Sunday. The train stops at the Hudson station, which is a 30-minute walk from the hotel.

Inside my room, the Bathing Studio, the star of the show was a stunning bathtub right behind the bed. It felt like something I've only ever seen on Pinterest. As I stepped into the bathroom, I excitedly shouted, "There's an Eckhaus Latta bathrobe!"—a perfect touch.

When I wasn't relaxing in the room, I spent an afternoon at the baths, alternating between the thermal pools and the sauna. They are open most days from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Hotel guests get access to a 2.5-hour slot each day of their stay, and spa treatments are available to book, including bodywork, facials, strength training, and somatic meditation. The lofted studio also offers a rotating schedule of classes, such as sound immersion, dance, sensory meditation, breath work, yoga, and Pilates.

Elsewhere on-site, there's a retail concept called Pocketbook Market, which has a curated mix of vendors; Kasuri, a boutique stocked with brands like Henrik Vibskov and Vivienne Westwood; and Show: Room, a dedicated gallery space.

Hudson Packing Tips

I'm usually an overpacker, but for this short trip, I challenged myself to fit everything into a weekend bag instead of a suitcase.

Since I knew I'd be going to the hotel's baths, I packed a swimsuit from Baserange. I always bring at least one piece from Cou Cou on my trips, and this time, it was a midi slip dress. Since it was late August and still hot out, I paired it with my Los Angeles Apparel jelly flats. I also knew I'd be spending lots of time lounging in the hotel room, so I packed airy nightgowns from Eileen West and Lanz of Salzburg.

For beauty, I packed my Leatherology travel case with a Sofie Pavitt Face cleanser and gel moisturizer, EltaMD face sunscreen, M.Ph by Mary Phillips lip liner in Cherry Cola, Rhode lip gloss, Kate McLeod's Everywhere Stick, and Rōz leave-in conditioner and hair oil.

Dining in Hudson

After browsing Warren Street shops like Shaina Mote, Nikki Chasin, and the only U.S. location of Face Stockholm (famous for making Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's signature lipstick in Cranberry), I went to Hudson Diner—my favorite restaurant on the street.

On Saturday, I had dinner at the hotel's restaurant, Ambos, a new Argentine spot with a live-fire open kitchen. (Dinner is served Wednesday through Sunday in its dining room, breakfast and lunch are offered on weekdays, and brunch is available on weekends.) I tried the corn-filled agnolotti in a tomato sauce, steak with fries, and a pickled grape chocolate ganache cake with miso caramel. It was all so good.

If you have a car, there are plenty of great options in neighboring towns too: baked goods at Shandaken Bake, tapas at Mirador, a chicken biscuit (and other classic diner items) at Gracie's Luncheonette, and concessions and a movie at Hi-Way Drive-In Theater.

A little over a year ago, Lili Reinhart posted a TikTok video from the set of The Love Hypothesis in which she and costar Tom Bateman acted out the "one-armed girlfriend lift," a popular trend where the guy effortlessly scoops up his significant other using only one arm. It was one of our first looks at the on-screen versions of Olive and Adam, the enemies-to-lovers couple that set BookTok readers afire. At the time of this article's publishing, the video has garnered over 84.5 million views.

"If 80 million people watch this movie, fucking great," Bateman says emphatically over Zoom when I bring up the video's virality. For the notoriously offline actor, participating in regular TikTok videos required some convincing at first, but "I guess if you're gonna go into that world, who better to be holding your hand throughout it than Lili Reinhart, who has a small country of followers?" he says, flashing a grin. I'm happy to report Reinhart and Bateman's viral TikToks have continued for the film's press tour.

The 37-year-old English native lets out a laugh before launching into what he describes as a pretentious actor thing to say: "There was something in it that felt so inherently Olive and Adam. We are so different. Lil and I are from different parts of the planet. We come from such different places. She comes with this tidal wave of online followers, and I am flying this flag of 'Be present and in the moment. Put your phone down. Get off the internet and look around.' And in that meeting of these worlds, there was something quite beautiful about it."

Indeed, it was apropos for the film's "opposites attract" love story. Based on the New York Times best-selling book by Ali Hazelwood, The Love Hypothesis follows timid third-year PhD candidate Olive Smith (Reinhart)—who, in an attempt to make her best friend believe that she is on her way to happily ever after—convinces Stanford University's infamously strict and brooding professor Adam Carlsen, aka Dr. Evil (Bateman), to pretend they are a couple.

It's your classic "fake dating to lovers" trope, one we've seen play out on-screen many times before but never seems to get old. The Love Hypothesis sees the concept through the lens of lab coats, Bunsen burners, and carefully calculated theories as it explores love in many different forms.

The actor's IMDb page mostly consists of psychological dramas, suspense thrillers, and whodunits. Known for playing dark, mysterious types, he was pleasantly surprised when his agent called him up and asked, "How do you feel about doing a rom-com?" While it's not his usual fare, Bateman was intrigued when he heard director Claire Scanlon and Reinhart were attached. "I thought, 'This sounds like great fun,'" he shares. Upon receiving the script, he immediately fell in love with the characters, particularly the journey Adam goes on with Olive, and liked that the story was so much more than just two people getting together. Scanlon described Olive and Adam's relationship to Bateman as what happens when you reach over the divide to someone in a different place from you and learn from them and hear them. "I just thought, 'What a beautiful place to start a story from,'" he says of the film's themes.

We reach a point in our conversation where Bateman and I start trading favorite rom-coms. First on his list is The Apartment starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. "I think it's one of the most beautiful films ever made," he says. I bring up my very millennial answer of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and he returns with another classic—Moonstruck starring Cher and Nicolas Cage. "The scene where she comes in and meets him for the first time, I have never properly seen love at first sight on camera until that," he says. We both adore Love Actually ("It still gives me goose bumps"), and he adds that he recently rewatched some heavy hitters like The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey.

At the heart of every one of these films are characters with undeniable chemistry. A great rom-com hinges on this very thing. Luckily, that bit was pretty instantaneous between Bateman and Reinhart.

He tells me the two first met via Zoom, which wasn't exactly ideal, but as soon as they started reading together, it just clicked. "I thought, '[This is] ridiculous. Through a screen, I'm already getting more chemistry than I thought I would get,'" he says. "She's got such warmth and depth, but she was so fun and silly. I didn't want the Zoom to end because I was having so much fun reading with her." Whether he got the role or not, Bateman tells me he was just happy to have had the opportunity to play and improvise with Reinhart.

The next day, he got the call that the part was his. "I was really excited for many reasons, but a very, very big one of them was because I got to do more of that with Lili, and it really was a delight working with her," he says.

The two met in person in Montreal a week before filming started and spent the majority of that time sequestered in a room with Scanlon and creamy pastries supplied by Reinhart. The trio discussed each scene at length. "We'd sat with each other for hours and hours and days and days and gone to dinner and to the cinema," he says. "We texted different movies we liked. I texted songs that I liked. It was just really collaborative and cool and fun and was a real luxury to get to know her before [filming]."

With any book adaptation worth its salt, staying true to the source material is key. So naturally, Hazelwood's book served as the cast and crew's bible throughout filming. I asked Bateman if he was nervous at all about appeasing the fans. He tells me it wasn't so much nerves as it was added responsibility.

"It did make me think, 'Wow, a lot of people are going to be looking forward to this before we've even called action on the first day, so get it right, man!'" he says. "We're all here because of this book and the fan base behind it and the love that people have for it. And even though it's a very fun, quick, lovely, heartfelt film and there's a lot of silliness in it, you've got to treat that with the utmost respect."

Love Hypothesis fans, you can breathe a sigh of relief.

6 Perfume Trends to Have on Your Radar for Fall 2026

Moody Fruits

In the past, fruity perfumes were often seen as too playful—bordering on juvenile—but they're becoming way more sophisticated in today's market. (Just ask perfumer Honorine Blanc, who once told me that juicy, bursting-with-flavor perfumes go hand in hand with luxury.) Now, we're seeing more and more fruity concoctions pop up, and the trend is showing no signs of slowing down in cooler weather. However, it is gaining a darker, moodier touch. "After the explosion of playful, juicy fruits, we're moving toward darker, more sensual expressions," Raguenes says, calling out mouthwatering notes such as plum, cassis, and black cherry.

Modern Chypres

"At the same time, classic families like chypres are being refreshed with fruity facets and warm amber accords, making them feel more modern and approachable," Raguenes adds. I always say that chypres are the coolest among the olfactory families, as they don't fit inside a specific mold. They're at once fresh, floral, and woody, which makes them smell wildly sophisticated. That said, their complexity makes them a bit of an acquired taste, but when you add fruity and amber notes to the equation, as Raguenes suggests, they "feel much more approachable for today's consumer."

Spicy Gourmands

Sticky-sweet gourmands and savory gourmands have dominated the trend cycle over the past couple of years. Now? It's the spicy gourmand's time to shine. A "more elevated take on sweetness," Raguenes calls them, these edible-inspired compositions pair gourmand notes with woods, resins, and, of course, spices. "Saffron, cardamom, [and] toasted and nutty accords are having a moment, bringing depth and texture without making a fragrance feel overly heavy," says perfumer Cécile Zarokian. "Consumers are still looking for comfort but are more adventurous and interested in complexity."

Textured Aromas

Fragrance often takes inspiration from physical textures, but I've been noticing the sensory experience looking a lot more, shall I say, tactile. Materials like metal, paper, and stone are all over the perfume market as of late, such as Matiere Premiere's Metal Lavender, which evokes an industrial lavender distillation facility in Provence, or Louis Vuitton's Ink Mark, which pays homage to Chinese calligraphy on parchment. Even as a shopping editor, I take a surprising amount of fashion inspiration from my most stylish friends. Just this weekend, I found myself admiring a friend’s incredibly elegant V-neck wool jumper. I was already bracing myself for the three-figure price tag when I asked where it was from, only for her to reply, “It’s H&M”—with a hint of surprise in her own voice, too. Mere hours after hitting the red carpet at Leicester Square to promote Sense & Sensibility, Daisy Edgar-Jones has taken to the streets of London to revive a certain jacket trend that certainly would’ve made Elinor Dashwood’s heart flutter.

Indeed, tackling the leading role in Jane Austen’s literary classic has transformed the British actress into something of an adherent of method dressing, trading in her pencil skirts and high-neck jackets for Chloé bloomers and Vivienne Westwood corsets.

Now, she’s seemingly borrowing pieces from the boys of that era, arriving for a press appearance at BBC Radio One in a Napoleon jacket from Alexander McQueen.

Designed by Seán McGirr, the piece debuted in the autumn/winter 2026 collection and features milky soft floral brocade jacquard fabric contrasted with rigid braiding across the chest. Unlike on the runway, which took a sleazier route by styling it with smudged smoky eye makeup and unbuttoned, low-rise jeans, the star opted for sleek stovepipe jeans and white mules.

Still, she’s not the first star of a period drama to co-sign on the Napoleon jacket’s return. Earlier this year whilst promoting the West End transfer of the critically acclaimed play 1536, Margot Robbie made a surprise appearance at the Ambassadors Theatre wearing a similar silhouette.

Fresh off her hauntingly gothic run as Catherine Earnshaw in Wuthering Heights, the Oscar nominee looked to the vampy version from the same McQueen range, completing her look with black tailored trousers and pointed-toe heels.

Of course, McQueen is not the only designer to pioneer the comeback of this 18th-century military staple. At his debut show as creative director of Dior, Jonathan Anderson dressed Wednesday star Jenna Ortega in a sleeveless vest iteration and a Y2K raw-hem denim mini skirt.

Elsewhere, he appeared on the runways of Ann Demeulemeester in Paris and Keburia in London. Naturally, where high fashion circles go, the high street follows, with this style cropping up at the likes of Zara, Reformation and Mango.

Still, there’s no denying its eternal appeal. A staple of Kate Moss at Glastonbury in the noughties and heart-stricken women on the English moors alike, safe to say this style is beckoning to be worn on the streets of London once again.

Scroll through any fashion-y Instagram account in 2026, and you’ll likely find it full of images from a bygone era. It started with the return of Y2K fashion staples (cue images of Britney Spears in hipster jeans and Jennifer Lopez in capris), but for a while now, noughties British pop culture has moved into frame. IG accounts dedicated to celebrating the best of British, like Brit Cult, Brit Pop Glory and Love of huns x, are taking us back with pictures of fresh-faced icons like Robbie Williams, Victoria Beckham, the Gallaghers and Lily Allen, but it's not just online.

British culture, from high to low, is enjoying a moment—with the US tuning into UK Love Island (Lena Dunham was an early adopter) earlier this year, as well as London Falling, Patrick Redden Keefe’s story of a rich teenager’s death whilst living in a luxury Thames-side apartment, was quick to join the New York Times best-seller list. Britpop’s second wave is here, and after Oasis and Pulp filled stadiums last year, Elastica, the cool-girl band of the era, might well be touring again soon.

At this summer’s FIFA World Cup, the noughties were everywhere. Robbie Williams performed, and the WAGs of the England team (last seen in force when it was VB and co during the 2006 tournament) were very much back, now featuring Bukayo Saka’s fiancée Tolami Benson and Ashlyn Castro, Jude Bellingham’s girlfriend, and we expect to them again at London Fashion Week.

Meanwhile, Cara Delevingne, the face (and eyebrows) of the '00s, is releasing new music and has a Topshop collaboration that just dropped. After focusing on everyone from French women to West Village Girls in recent years, is our style now moving a little closer to home?

Mark Knox began Brit Cult in 2018 with a picture of Williams, no less. Eight years later, he has 140k followers, people who love the account for images of celebrities including Kate Moss, Madonna and Beckham in their younger days, as well as deeper cuts including Sara Cox, McFly and Misteeq. He has a fairly wide remit for posts, spanning from 1990 to 2009, but those in the latter part of this era tend to be the most popular. "Early 2000s fashion is very 'in', so people love seeing those sorts of images, although I'm noticing that there is a slight shift to later on in the 2000s," he says.

Part of this is obviously nostalgia. Knox is 36, looking back on the formative period of his life as a teenager around 20 years ago. It seems a lot of us enjoy doing the same. But (crucially), he says that Brit Cult isn’t just a "remember when?" love-in. In fact, some of the users looking at these posts are seeing the images with fresh eyes. "The demographics over the past couple of years have become younger. There are a lot more people who are interested in looking back at a time they don't remember."

The Gen Z and Gen Alpha cohort, it might be a window into pre-internet life. "There was more of a monoculture [then] which I think people actually long for," says Knox. "Looking back and going 'Everyone was into this, everyone was watching that, everyone was wearing this', it seems like something that would be welcomed now, but it would be almost impossible to do."

And then there's the best bit: noughties UK fashion. Burberry’s classic Nova Check (please look up EastEnders' Daniella Westbrook wearing it head to toe if you've never seen this picture) is back, and the bikini has been spotted on stylish sun loungers this summer. On the high street, Topshop (that rite-of-passage destination for basically every millennial woman) is back after a hiatus, and London Fashion Week designer Aaron Esh is relaunching the era’s go-to brand for grey skinny jeans—Allsaints—this September.

Talking of London Fashion Week, some may say the noughties were its last golden age, when it was dominated by designers such as Erdem, Jonathan Saunders, Roksanda and Christopher Kane. Happily, 20-odd years later, there's excitement around the London shows again, thanks to the British Fashion Council's new CEO, Laura Weir, who is focused on supporting new talent and giving space to the names based here. This September, a new cohort of young designers are being backed by BFC Newgen sponsorship, including Johanna Parv, Petra Fagerstrom and Yaku, whilst McQueen is back on the schedule for the first time since 2023 and Kane has taken the reins at Mulberry, after three years away from fashion.

Harriet Quick was fashion features editor at British Vogue during the noughties. She describes it as a "very vivid and vibrant" time, partly because culture was central to fashion after the creative explosion of the nineties, and also because designers had distinct points of view. "Although their sentiments [were similar], their design language was radically different from one another," she explains. "They were really quite irreverent; people with a lot of energy, rather like the generation before."

Quick is impressed by how many of the era's key names remain at the top of fashion now, from Jonathan Anderson at Dior to Kane at Mulberry and Saunders, recently named creative director at Kate Spade, along with Erdem and Roksanda as must-sees on the LFW schedule, and Martine Rose remaining one of the most-loved British brands. "I do think there's a longevity there, and it's through persistence," she says, adding, "Jonathan Saunders [for example] has got such a clear focus. He understands brands really well."

Arguably, as the nineties influenced the noughties cohort, the 2020s creatives are somewhat walking the path laid out by those who came before them—even if there’s been a slight delay. Knox says he sees reverberations from this era—whether in Charli XCX, who echoes the messy but fun rock-and-roll spirit of someone like Robbie Williams in his noughties pomp, or the return of skinny jeans to the runways. "I always try to help people see a line between what's happening now and what [happened] then, he says. "You can tell in the comments [on his Instagram posts] that some people appreciate the commentary around how things connect."

Ultimately, Knox hopes that harking back to this era—one that wasn't dominated by "online"—could spell something good going forward. "If it wasn't better [then], it was definitely more optimistic," he says. "Things can seem a lot more doom and gloom now. If [younger people] are all relating to and loving the positivity of the past, hopefully they can carry that into the future."

After developing a gel nail polish allergy a few years ago (a beauty editor's worst nightmare, I know, but I have found some good gel nail polish alternatives since), one thing I've really felt I've missed out on is chrome manis. The glazed nail trend hasn't gone anywhere, but to achieve the effect, it has to be used with cured gel polish for the chrome effect to work. Whilst there are tonnes of stunning shimmer nail polishes, achieving the glazed effect with nail polish just isn't quite the same, and applying the chrome powder on regular nail polish doesn't work too well in my experience.

Manucurist's Green Flash LED Kit has become one of my favourites for getting a longer-lasting manicure without gel polish (it even cures under an LED lamp), so when I saw that Manucurist also did its own chrome powders that are compatible with its Green Flash polishes, I immediately got my hands on some to try out for myself. And I wasn't disappointed.

Manucurist Glazed Powders

Coming in an array of shades, Manucurist's Glazed Powders (£9) work with its Green Flash nail polishes, which cure under Manucurist's LED lamp (£73). The result is a longer-lasting manicure without gel polish, remaining chip-free for far longer than standard nail polish.

How to Use It

I tried the White Glazed Powder, paired with Manucurist Hortencia (my favourite sheer pink polish from the brand). I applied two coats, curing in between, and then applied the powder on top with the sponge applicator.

After buffing it into the nail, I could see the chrome effect adhering to my nails, and I was so impressed with how it looked. I then used the Manucurist Dust Brush (£22) to sweep away the excess powder around the nail, and finished with the Manucurist Top Coat and cured again to seal it in.

I will say that applying the top coat did disturb the chrome slightly, but my workaround has been to apply a little more of the powder once the top coat has set, and it has held onto the glassy effect brilliantly. It has lasted really well and hasn't faded or disappeared after washing my hands—the glassy look remains.

My Verdict

There are a few different shades of the glazed powder to pick from depending on the look you're going for. The white one I used is perfect for a pearly effect, whereas Pink has more of a tint that would look beautiful over a sheer pink or milky polish. Golden has a shimmering champagne hue, and Blue has a stunning aqua-glazed finish that is really unique.
