Still Loitering: Boho Braids
Behold the boho braid and its incredible loitering power! Unlike its plebian brethren (the simple plait), the boho braid is beloved by trendsetting types because it’s a bit of flair for the hair. While braids in general are very utilitarian, these are definitely decorative in nature. Fortunately they don’t look fussy when the rest of the hair is casually styled or left undone, as the above ladies demonstrate.
Ashley Olsen is always early on the trends, so we weren’t surprised to see that she started experimenting with boho braids back in early 2005. She attended Zac Posen’s fashion show wearing a single braid across her hairline and the rest of her hair pulled back into a messy bun. Sienna Miller was spotted the following year walking in New York City with her hair in two small, loosely assembled, face-framing braids. The bohemian beauty stayed true to her understated style and let the rest of her hair dry naturally—an earthy touch we appreciate. Peaches Geldof varied the style in 2007 when she attended an LG party in London wearing pinned-back boho braids. Her hairstyle combination of unstructured waves, heavy fringe, and a pair of petite braids was very hippie chic.
Right now, the most popular version of boho braids is definitely a long and loose version of Olsen’s style. Lindsay Lohan wore a front French braid to a soiree on a yacht in Cannes last month. Her thick braid is more of a statement look and is an excellent party hair option (especially in the humid months). Our final example of the lingering boho braid phenomenon is the always well-coiffed Lauren Conrad. As devotees of The Hills no doubt know, Conrad has been trotting out various versions of the boho braid over the past few months. Seen here in the Washington D.C. airport, Conrad reminded us of the true beauty of the boho braid—its adaptability. Whether it’s elevating a casual outfit of jeans and t-shirt or accompanying a dressier look, the boho braid is always a festive touch.

WOW- hands down Nichole rocks the hobo braids..and so does Miss.Mary Kate Olsen. Braids are always a back up on my hair. If I am having a bad hair day...my hair goes into a braid or braids....tasseled braided hair up can look rather smashing at night time. I say ROCK THE BRAIDS!!!! MARY KATE ROCKS THE BRAIDS...SO DOES N.RICHIE. The people that are bored reading these post..."did you know you can actually stop reading them at anytime you feel the need to"...and you don't even have to come back for more if you like. Did that ever accrue to you?!?!?! WOW IMAGINE THAT ONE...Simple concept...yet rather dashing. Hmmmm..... FOR BLACK PEOPLE, BRAIDS ARE ALWAYS IN STYLE...
Leave it to a few rich girls to wear them and now it's a trend? WTF?
i personally like ashley's and geldof's version the best. mine tends to look too structured when i copy the style... yeah...i'd hate to admit this, but this looks best on lauren. she really owns it.
I love ashley's, lauren's and lindsay's look! Love LC look the best for the braid, so pretty and chic. Ashley O looks ridiculous with her fake lips, ewww, these twins should stop with all the plastic surgeries Oooh i love when people do this. i always look silly though. I must keep trying.

Since when did braids become a "trend"? Lil (ethnic) girls have been wearing their hair in a braid or two for ever. Now Ashley Olsen puts a braid in her hair and its "trendy/ stylish"? Dont even get me started! how do you do that side braid like Ashley's ive tried but it doesnt come out like that...? WHY does Ashley Olsen insist on doing that stupid duck pout face?! Its so ugly. Her hair is lovely though. seriously gorgeous! just gorgeous! would totally rock it if my hair was longer.

www.indahclothing.com truthfully i'm kind of pissed that this braid became popular. i've been doing this braid in my hair for years and now since everyone does their hair like this, it has lost its unique appeal. Didn't you guys do a post on summer braids like...3 weeks ago..this makes me laugh. This made me laugh even more when I read this while having the "still loitering boho braid" loitering in my hair. I've been inspired by both Ashley and Mary Kate but I actually feel like I've seen MK rock the braid more often. My love affair with it first started when I saw Mischa Barton wear one on the O.C. (hah)! i dont think ill ever tire of braids, i love the carefree vibe they give off.
sienna and ashley are def my favorites here Come to think of it, this is actually at least the third time you have done a post about braids. There was the one with Heidi Klum, Rachel Zoe, and few others earlier this year, then the WWW TV post on how to do braids fairly recently, and now this one today. I heart braids... but wasn't there already a post on them a while back? I usually DO NOT like LC or her style (or lack of) but I like how the braid looks with a low side pony. Ashley's looks great, too Of all the people you had to choose from to represent the boho braid in 2008, you chose Lauren Conrad and Lindsay Lohan? How about Nicole Richie?! She certainly wears this look better than those two girls and she has wears it well whether her hair is up (like at the Prada Trembled Blossoms party) or down. I like the boho braid and all, but you just did a WWWTV feature on the same thing not long ago. There are so many interesting things going on in fashion and this is what you give us? I'm a loyal reader, but all of these boring/repetitive posts are becoming too hard even for me to defend. I love the feeling I get when I wear braids...of being a little girl again...carefree...no responsibilities. Gotta go braid my hair now :) unless your intent is to show how a look retrogrades i would suggest keeping the likes of lauren conrad off of your posts.
she is downright boring! The fact that Lindsay and Lauren Conrad are the ones doing it in 2008 makes me think that they are just catching the tail end of the trend. I mean, a braid is pretty classic and all, but I'd rather be in on it when the Olsens or Geldoff were doing it.

I can't do braids, they would always be so freaking tight that it felt like my head was going to burst. Maybe if my hair was longer..... adoring the braids, i probably wear my hair in some type of braid or twist at least once a week. great for the summer months. also, i was watching old episodes of felicity and she was totally rocking the boho braid circa 2002!
j, there is a wwwd tv episode on how to wear braids. please tell me this is a joke. arggghhhh i'm drowning in a pool of frustration, there is so much FASHION out there, and then there are stupid braids on stupid heads. excuse me while i peruse some real style on style.com....... I love braids. I think they all look good with their different types. . . they all picked braids that suit them. Kinda like Ukraine's prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko's hair! Super chic!
