On A Side Note Play by C. Ronson for Urban Outfitters

On A Side Note Play by C. Ronson for Urban Outfitters

A thoughtful, well-executed collaboration is a thing of beauty—just think how much lovelier life is in a world with Bottle Rocket (Anderson and Wilson), Mozza (Batali and Silverton), and She & Him (Deschanel and Ward). Since we truly believe in the power of partnership, we did a little dance o’ joy when we heard that Charlotte Ronson was working with Urban Outfitters to create PLAY by C. Ronson, a mini-line available exclusively in UO stores.

The PLAY by C. Ronson collection is very appropriately named, as each piece seems to have been cut from the same sweetly frolicsome cloth—figuratively speaking, of course. Where Ronson’s eponymous line is more polished, PLAY by C. Ronson has youthful energy in spades. For example, the UO collection includes reversible tanks and rompers (stripes on one side, polka dots on the other, how fun is that?) and other soon-to-be favorites like snuggly cardigans in gray or green, flattering day dresses, and an excellent cuffed pair of railroad stripe shorts.

The designer herself has a soft spot for the Rosebud Blouse, as Ronson’s particularly keen on its unfussy print and perfectly worn-in fabric. “It’s like my old favorite t-shirts,” she says. “The cotton is very soft and it feels like vintage.” We asked her how she’ll personally style the blouse and her answer hit our fashion bull’s-eye: “tucked into any piece of denim from the Current/Elliott collection,” (she’s as obsessed with the jeans as we are!) and a pair of Manolo Blahnik for Thakoon high heels.

While we approve of that outfit, the blouse, like the rest of the collection, is highly versatile and really could go with so many things in any wardrobe. For this reason alone (not to mention the limited availability and excellent price points) we have a hunch that PLAY by C. Ronson is going to sell out quickly, so check out the collaboration before it’s gone!

1. Cozy Cardigan ($98)
2. Reversible Onesie ($108)
3. Mini Dress ($108)
4. Pinstripe Short ($88)
5. Rosebud Blouse ($83)
6. Reversible Tank ($68)

cheap looking. i'd rather buy H&M

What I want to know is: Where is the teal dress that shows up before you view the collection on the site? Everything else is bland.

Yep, Target. I wouldn't spend more than $15 for any of these pieces. The lines are so basic, and they are cotton. If you are going to buy cotton, go to Target not UO. Go to UO if you want something that is interesting and unique. Not that that is easy.

plain and not worth the money ive found better stuff on clearence at target! wwwd should really consider prices!

Um, J, the copy implies nothing of the sort, other than collaborations are wonderful (which they are, thats all anybody does these days. Don't jump the gun just to show off your film knowledge. The lookbook for Play on UO is way better than this display. It makes the stuff look cute. But, $108 for a cheap looking onsie that has a quarter inch inseam? ridiculous.

The Bottle Rocket allusion is pointing to the possible great benifits of a collaboration. Who cares how many movies they made - not relevant to a allusion to collaborations....Anyways, the clothes are too pricey for the quality....WWWD needs to recognize the demand for lower price points for their readers, especially with the economy the way it is. Readers of WWWD do not think $100 is cheap.

I've already seen the Play be C. Ronson collection in stores, and I feel that you've picked the most unflattering pieces to feature in this post. If I hadn't already seen how great the collection is, I wouldn't even want to take a chance on it, judging by these pictures. I do want to thank you, however, for featuring this collection, because it's lovely, and everyone should have a chance to check it out before it's sold out.

I am giving these clothes the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they are much better in person. The price does seem really steep though.

        Posted by: Jenny  |  2008-08-01 08:40:22

these pieces dont even look like they have any shape and for that price???

        Posted by: beth  |  2008-08-01 08:32:19

Looks like the Converse line being sold at Target. Only about triple the price. Lame.

        Posted by: Llew  |  2008-08-01 08:14:18

what the frig with the bottle rocket allusion? it implies that owen wilson & wes anderson hadn't been friends already for years-- and didn't they cowrite everything of anderson until life aquatic? the faux academic tone is annoying. so is gushing over these utterly plain clothes. really? feels just like vintage? o-kay.

        Posted by: j  |  2008-08-01 07:08:04

I agree, I'm not a fan- I''d have to see the collection first hand at UO to make the final decision, but judging from what's posted here, it looks so ubiquitous and plain and...the colors! They definitely lack a punch. (lecheapcestchic.com)

        Posted by: stephanie  |  2008-08-01 06:55:43

agreed, looks like typical girl-next-door stuff... like what i would expect my middle-school neighbor to be wearing... not remarkably bad, but nothing noteable...

        Posted by: caroline  |  2008-08-01 04:25:59

I would wear the stuff but they're not that great especially for all the money it costs!

        Posted by: christina  |  2008-08-01 04:24:57

its so average and boring it looks like American apperal
