Myspace Muses: January

While we pride ourselves on the celebrity and runway fashions we feature, there’s nothing quite like seeing the latest street styles. Each month, our MySpace Muses and their stylish, daring, or darling outfits inspire us anew, compelling us to experiment and try unexpected looks. In today’s batch of muses, we’re pleased to report that each girl brings something unique to the table—be it a few fantastic accessories or a combat boot-with-cropped pants-combo—so you’re sure to learn something from their ensembles!

Our first muse, Hannah (top row, far left) from Ontario, reminded us of a very easy trick: add a patent belt for a bit of polish. By incorporating that bit of femininity and shine, she elevates her whole outfit in two seconds flat. Enhance your layered looks by trying Chinese Laundry's Skinny Belt ($14) over your own tee-and-cardi combo.

Speaking of accessories, Betty (top row, middle) from Los Angeles spiced up her plain white tee and simple pair of black skinny jeans with a very plush vest and some sophisticated gloves. If you want to enrich your own basic outfits, check out Jobout 1.8's Leather Gloves ($25) and Topshop's Mongolian Gilet ($80).

On a similarly luxe note, another LA-resident, Emily (top row, far right), showed off a classically posh look that she created by pairing a body-con top with a full miniskirt. Try layering French Connection's Tallulah Skirt ($100) over American Apparel's Cotton Spandex Jersey Leotard ($28) for a like-minded getup.

We were also taken by the way Ashley (bottom row, far left) from Ontario puts herself together. Her sleek-and-strong outfit reminds us of Kate Lanphear's signature fuss-free style. Since we are devotees to fetish footwear and chains, we of course love the way her bondage sandals and gold necklaces complement her outfit. If you don’t already have the pieces required for achieving this look, A.V. Max's Gold Triple Multi-Chain Layered Necklace ($81), Ophelia's Long Chain Necklace ($143), and Nine West's Vivacity Sandals ($149) are all you need!

Next, we must direct your attention to Marian (bottom row, middle), who inspired us all the way from London. She exemplified a truly great wardrobe concept by wearing some slim trousers (we love the gorgeous cobalt blue color!) with tough ankle boots. This modern combo can be achieved by pairing your own skinny cropped pants with Guess' Naemazza Peep Toe Lace Up Boots ($158).

Our final motivational style boost for the day comes courtesy of Ingrid (bottom row, far right) from Brazil. She dressed up her casual graphic tee by wearing it with a crisp pair of dark-rinse jeans in a neat, slim fit. (The double-wrap belt and lightweight scarf are nice touches too.) Add a bit of fanciness to any informal top by wearing it with J Brand's Low Rise Cropped Pencil Leg Jeans ($159).—Jessica Amento

Love the silhouette of Emily's ensemble. I'm curious about her necklace though-- it looks like a bunch of chiffon roses strung together-- very charming.

Ashley's shoes remind me of Jeffrey Campbell's Marley Platform, $125. SO adorable. Also I am obsessed with Ashley's hairstyle. Ashley, if you read this please fill me in on the cut!!!

Emily looks adorable, but trendy! She knows what works on her - my fav. I love Marian too- she looks so uncontrived and flawless, curvy but lean - all the things that seem impossible @times. Lovely smile, too.

I'm a reader Marians house of style site.she is a stylist and personal shopper.think she also works as a fashion writer.I had to recomend her to the www team as they show some great style on here but a lot of it is not really muse worthy.I agree with everyone who has mentioned her sweet nature too.

I love the Myspace Muses posts on WWW ! Betty's outfit really speaks to me. I love her faux (hopefully) fur vest, it's really kitschy and fun. I like that this post showcases things that arestreetwear and then just items that exhibit normal fashion. You can be chic without looking like an overstyled fashionista or overdone clubkid. And thanks for all the blog sites guys ! :)

Props to all, but Emily's style is the only one that doesn't look like it was pulled straight from the pages of an UO catalog (which is a good thing!) www.thebudgetbabe.com

Posted by: budgetbabe |  2009-01-26 11:53:37

There are some really wonderful looks going on here. I may be slightly biased ;) but Marian is my favourite, beside her obvious style shes exudes confidence and sass she also has such a sweet nature around her. Well done to all the girls!

where is ashley's blog? her look is amazing!

Posted by: patoosha |  2009-01-26 07:26:58

Emily is my fave style blogger and this look is a perfect example of why---she looks absolutely spot on trend, without looking like she's a slave to fashion. Love the silhouette of her outfit, and I love that she's kept the palette totally restrained and has let the shapes do the talking. Plus she's about the only girl I know who can pull off a fabulous tulle necklace like that! xo Anne www.annesage.com
