Look We Love: Back to Black
There was a moment this summer when we felt like we were witnessing a whiteout. Snowy shades were all the rage, as celebrity after celebrity milked this look at every red carpet event around. If you’ve never cottoned to the season’s delight in white—too preppy, too precious—today’s look we love is for you.
Clearly we’re not breaking any news with this story. That said, we think the basic black outfits shown here are worthy of noting. Nicole Richie’s Moschino sheath is perfection personified (we love her Chloe "Heloise" bag and trademark Loubi heels too). We like the loose silhouette, short hemline, and neckline embellishment of Jennifer Lopez’s Lanvin dress from S/S 07. A casual variation of this look can be seen on Helena Christensen and Sienna Miller. They’ve both been recently spotted in New York with brown belts cinched over their dark dresses.
It is our firm belief that you can’t have too many black dresses (and if you do, those are high-class problems). We’ve got a couple to tempt you, like the flutter sleeved, black silk dress by Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent pictured above ($235, lisakline.com). Another option is American Apparel’s Sheer Rib Loose Sleeveless Dress, which can be easily dressed up or down ($32, americanapparel.net). Wear either with Forever 21’s tan Rodeo Belt for that Helena/Sienna vibe ($12.80 on sale, forever21.com).

So much to discuss here! Nicole: Love the dress, and I have always loved a Chloe bag, but the shoes are so eww! I'm tired of peep toes. I don't want to see people's nasty little toes sticking out of their shoes anymore. Everyone's little piggy's need to be put away for awhile! As for the 12th Street dress, too top heavy for me. J.LO - Now she needs a new stylist! Hello bug eyes! And that dress doesn't do anything for her body. And again, peep toes?? I don't like anything about this outfit. Moving on, Helena - Orange is out! I like her outfit, but I don't like the accsessories (shoes, bag, but I like the belt). And Sienna, again with the accsessories - too many, and I would have worn some simple flats... the outfit with the shades says enough. Overall, it looks like these girls are trying too hard, with the execption of Nicole.

I am so astonished by how much Nicole, JLo, and Sienna all look alike! They look like they were all written by the same authors. Helena Christensen, too, if it weren't for the blazing color of her skin. I love the looks but they somehow look generic to me.

Black is my fave - slimming, Audrey-like, and doesn't show dirt. Always chic!Sometimes I do get tired of it, so the white thing was a nice break. However, call me old-fashioned, but I just never feel like it's appropriate to wear a white dress to a wedding other than my own. Let the bride have her day in the sun! Anyway, I digress...

Yay! I love black almost to a fault. Helena and Sienna put a fresh twist on the little black dress. Love it! And as far as Nicole goes, remember that we are not here to judge them, only their style. And hers consistantly rocks! Would love to know where to get Helena's dress or one similar.
