Line We Love: Something

At WhoWhatWear.com, we live by the credo that it’s always a good idea to add a new name to our list of admired designers, especially if the said clothing creator makes fresh and affordable pieces. The mastermind behind today’s Line We Love, Natalie Wood (not to be confused with the actress), applies those exact qualities to her designs, which is why her fall lookbook—full of nature-inspired, tough-on-pretty selections—stood out amongst the stockpile in our office.

Something may be relatively new on the scene, but its Australian-based designer is already a seasoned contributor to the international fashion community. Prior to launching Something, Wood headed the (now defunct) indie lines Sample and Beauty of Nature. Currently, she’s also the creative director for Insight, a contemporary sportswear line that offers everything from killer bikinis to darling anoraks. The experience Wood brings to the table for Something is evident in the intricate construction of her widely admired, street-chic garments. The collection has already attracted a celebrity following comprised of ladies like Mary Kate Olsen and Kate Moss, both of whom own the Shiny Tee Dress ($81). Even better, the vast majority of Something’s pieces are extremely affordable (under $100) and all of them are thrillingly high quality. We had a difficult time picking out our favorite pieces for today’s story (so many to choose from!), but after much debate, here is our edited selection of the line’s many versatile, fun, and cool designs. Peruse away, dear readers!

1. Floral Waisted Dress ($102)
This frock fits right along with fall’s floral-print trend, but also encompasses a little bit of an edge, on account of the awesome zipper details at the elbows. Wear it with a Marc by Marc Jacobs Glossy Bow Hairband ($78) and Free People’s Studded Vintage Combat Boot ($388) for a sweetly rocker-chic outfit.

2. Party Tiger Sweater ($82)
It is difficult to look at this sweater without humming Rocky’s “Eye of the Tiger” theme song, but that won’t stop us from wearing it! The graphic t-shirt craze from summer is sure to carry over through winter with sweaters like these. We plan on wearing it with Kova & T Latex Leggings ($110) and Dolce Vita Madison Patent Pump ($150) for a hot night out, though it would also work equally well for lounging around the house on a casual evening.

3. Suit Zip Pant ($92)
These skinny black pants remind us of the Biker Leather Trousers ($4400) in Balmain’s fall collection, but they come at a much friendlier price. You can use them as the base for a variety of outfits, but we like the idea of styling them with Steve Madden’s Martiny Heels ($150) and a button-up blouse.

4. Layered Lace Tank Dress ($66)
This fall, we are substituting our LBD’s for little black lace dresses, instead! In particular, we intend on incorporating this mini, scoop-neck frock into our closets. We’ll wear it most with an unbuttoned Elizabeth & James Cashmere Sweater Vest ($395) and Juicy Couture’s Serena Three Buckle High Heel Booties ($378).

4. Cropped Knit Vest ($82)
You can never really have too many vests, and this knit version is ideal now that the weather is starting to cool down. We suggest trying it on with a cashmere turtleneck, pencil skirt, and some pointy pumps for a look that is secretary smart.

5. Bat Wing Jacket ($139)
If we were only allowed to place our seal of approval on one of the items in today’s story, this jacket would be it. Its fashion-forward design can be layered over casual attire, industrial outfits (take inspiration from Alexander Wang's fall runway looks), and floral dresses.—Jessica Amento

That panther sweater is hideous. Really. It throws the entire collection off. Looks like it was pulled out of a 10 cent thrift store bin. Other than that the rest of the pieces are YAWN. Cute and on trend, but not all that interesting and nothing I couldn't pick up at an H&M clearance sale and have anyone know the difference.

The line is beautiful and original and best of all affordable. That is just what I need clothes that is beautiful but affordable. I do not have $400 dollars for a top! So lines like this are always welcome to me.

I adore that lace dress! Great line! The pants are super cute too, though when you look at them on the model, they look like they could be pretty unflattering. stylenowhere.blogspot.com

Ok, so I'm sitting in class and just had to comment. This is the kind of stuff that makes WWWD great! Yes, it's fun to look at designer wear but that should be more of the "who" and not the "wear". Chic but affordable is what we all should strive for!
