Line We Love: Edie Rose for DKNY Jeans

At any given moment, it is a near certainty that Rachel Bilson is somewhere in the world, clothed in impeccably chic attire (of course). Her spot-on personal style generates Trend Reports, What Was She Wearing: Answers!, and other daily stories aplenty, not to mention, she is a steadfast muse for many of our Who What Wear TV episodes! Since her off-duty wardrobe inspires such a positive response in editors and readers alike, the WhoWhatWear.com office was ablaze with curiosity when we heard that the actress was creating her first collection, Edie Rose for DKNY Jeans.

While we're always wary when we hear that a celebrity's creating a clothing line, Bilson's first formal foray into the fashion design world is sure to be a success. Happily, Edie Rose for DKNY Jeans steers clear of the hot pink corset hoodies and faux punk rock tees that seems to be the product of such collaborations. Instead, the highly wearable line offers an affordable assortment of versatile pieces in flattering silhouettes. The entire 15-piece range can easily be mixed and matched with your pre-existing wardrobe and would be a perfect addition to almost any closet. In short, they are a sure-fire way for you to look as flawlessly stylish as their maker!

1. Vinyl Detail Biker Jacket ($98)
As discussed in our latest Who What Wear TV episode, a little leather jacket is a key outerwear option to have in your wardrobe. Bilson's version tweaks and updates the standard style via patent accents and a double-breasted structure. The cruelty-free (it’s made from faux leather) piece also has a yellow lining; it's a cheerful finishing touch for this fantastic piece.

2. Black Vest with White Piping ($59)
We commend Bilson for the simple, yet effective, design of this cute waistcoast. We picture her wearing it with a bowtie blouse, skinny jeans, and some classic Loubis, or even with a t-shirt dress and multi-strap heels. It is an excellent item to have on hand and can be incorporated seamlessly into any armoire.

3. Roll Sleeve Button Woven Shirt ($59)
This innovative blouse is, hands down, one of our favorite Edie Rose pieces. In part because of the black tie (it's a neat, androgynous touch), it's an ideal top to wear to work under a little blazer. You can also make it appropriate for night by pairing it with a bandage skirt, bright-colored heels, and eye-catching jewelry.

4. Yellow Dress with Studs ($69)
At first glance, you might think this sleeveless yellow frock is totally impractical for non-Southern California inhabitants, but you just need to think outside of the box! It’s a great base for a layered look: we'd wear it over a thin cashmere turtleneck and personalize it with some black lace tights and a few chain necklaces.

5. Wool Capelet ($98)
This capelet is a great transitional piece: try it now with bare wrists, then when it gets cold, use the shorter sleeve length to show off a statement pair of gloves. Plus, the timeless silhouette makes it a worthy investment for now and seasons to come.

6. Denim Vest ($56)
Another piece that meets our approval is this smartly cut dark denim vest. We recommend taking the Alexander Wang route and style it with a lightweight tank, baggy pants, and a beanie.

7. Tuxedo Jacket ($79)
We are constantly expanding our collection of blazers and we fell in love with this one from the get-go. The cut has a subtly hunting jacket-like look (always flattering), while the contrasting piping is a nice detail. We have a feeling this piece is going to get some preferential treatment when we're putting together our favorite fall outfits!

8. Skinny Stretch Jean Cut Pant ($69)
It is no secret that every girl needs at least one pair (if not several) of superb-fitting black pants in her possession. These jeans are an instant classic at a competitive price, and can be worn with an infinite number of outfits. We would love to see them worn with a body-conscious top and some fetish footwear. —Jessica Amento

Everything looks beautiful and clean and cool and best of all affordable. Very much my style. I hate the grandma look and all the flowers blah blah blah all over this site. Love the whole collection!

How beautiful! A line that looks good on everyone! Basic's with a twist! Rachel is heaven inside and out! I suspect she will continue to produce quite a collection of designs as she is artistic, innovative, cool, and

Nicole is right! That dress is a knock-off of Sretsis!!!

I love this line! The prices are great. The blazer is my favorite and many of the peices will make great basics. And the black is hot!!

i still cant get over that she COMPLETELY copied that dress. and to think i was actually really digging the line before finding that out, too.

Nice! i love all the pieces...especially the vest [#2]

So, I am thrilled with this collection, and I am in mad love with that yellow dress, but I'm definitely bummed over the prices. I mean, I remember her saying the line was going to be between 19.50 to 49.50, and this is obviously way over that. BUT maybe some of it won't be sold out immediately and make it to the Clearance rack for bargain hunters like me. =) ps. visit moderdreamer.blogspot.com =) (Shameless advertisment)

she copied that dress from stretis

the dress...the only knock out piece is already sold out.

I'm usually wary of celebrity lines, too, but I really like the shirt/tie combination and the blazer. Nothing here would be the centerpiece of an outfit, per se, but all of the items fit nicely into an existing wardrobe, hit the right price point, and add value by virtue of their versatility.

So i dont' WANT to like it because it's Rachel Bilson and she's, like, ugh just so perfect. BUT, the truth is that these pieces are all perfectly reflective of her style which we've all come to love. I think that the price point is right and all the pieces are just darling. I adore that white top with the bow tie. www.RunawayGallery.com

They're okaay. I love the piping on the vest and blazer. But everything is black. This is a girl with such a diverse wardrobe, wears every color, every boot, every accessory possible. I wonder why she fed us an array of dark and plain:S. The most detail I see is the little pin details on the hips of the yellow dress, which is not saying much at all!

        Posted by: Reesie  |  2008-09-19 09:34:07

i think they're all pretty snoozy except the dress

        Posted by: hmmm  |  2008-09-19 08:38:16

I want, nay NEED, them all. 'nuff said. xo

        Posted by: Jay  |  2008-09-19 08:37:34

I'm not in love with any of these pieces but at least they are reasonably priced. I like Ms. Bilson's more feminine looks and these could be from the Ashlee Simpson collection.

I was expecting more of this collection, I was actually so excited, but i do love the yellow dress and blazer.

Rachel bb, really? This is the best you could do? // I'm totally aware she will never read the previous sentences. But honestly, I have a vest like 2 that I bought a year and a half ago.

Compared to the way she usually dresses this stuff is a bit dull. I wouldn't neccessarily expect something groundbreaking, just a little bit more interesting and more like her... Please visit my blog, its new... aquamarineau.blogspot.com
