Inspired by: Burberry F/W 08-09

Few designers will ever satisfy our fashion palates like the British luxury fashion house, Burberry Prorsum. From thirties-inspired apparel (F/W 04) to Princess Margaret-influenced garments (S/S 06) to medal-embellished modern warrior (S/S 08), the renowned brand is consistently serving up dynamite collections. In fact, the world's leading tastemakers classify Burberry as a must-watch fashion show each season. Considering this, plus the fact that your WWW editors are involved in a not-so-secret love affair with the brand, we set out to conceive a mock-up outfit equivalent to those brought about by Burberry. We can’t wait to share the results with you, dear readers, so read on and take notes!

The man responsible for making our hearts race each time we stroll by the newly revamped Burberry boutique on Wilshire, Christopher Bailey, transcended our previous expectations with his fall offerings. After contemplating paintings done by the English artist, L.S. Lowry, Bailey was inspired to infuse his collection with a sense of nostalgia and romance. He accomplished this quite nicely through all of his muted color creations (quite the contrary of last spring’s mix palette of neutral and bold brights) in varying proportions. In fact, we are so enraptured with Bailey's harvest that we want to sing praises over every last piece, but for now, we'll spotlight the Tiered Trench Coats ($4,500), the Geometric Gem Necklaces ($1995), and the Winter Wool Trousers ($900). Sadly, these items are a little, how shall we say this, fiscally ambitious, so we propose everyone engage in a Burberry-inspired game of dress up, instead!—Jessica Amento

1. ASOS Elongated Multi Spike Drop Bracelet ($23)
Chief among the elite accessories we are coveting this fall are the mystical Spiked Necklaces ($1190) and Bangles ($943) that the Burberry runway models were decked out in. Add a similar element of wicked cool to your outfits with this multi-pronged gun metal bracelet.

2. Urban Outfitters' Solid Convertible Glove ($16)
The Knit Fingerless Gloves ($230) in Burberry's fall show left such a positive impression on us that we are officially taking them out of the time out corner! We are charmed by these superb, inexpensive forest green knock-offs. You can even transform them to mittens when your fingers get too cold!

3. French Connection Metallic Maze Dress ($218)
With so many eye-catching accessories and luxe outerwear options in Burberry's fall collection, Bailey was wise to keep his foundation dresses very straightforward. This timeless empire waist frock is a perfect base and begs for additional Burberry elements.

4. Club Monaco Big Bella Clutch ($169)
Should you choose to live on a Top Ramen diet over the next few weeks, you might be able to afford Burberry Prorsum's Medium Lowry Shoulder Bag ($2795) or Studded Plate Clutch ($795). However, the structure and pyramid embellishments of this Club Monaco creation qualify it as an eligible understudy to carry around instead.

5. Report Signature Bleeker Mary Jane Pump ($195)
The pin-tucking on these shoes pleasantly reminds us of the ruched and crossed straps on Burberry Prorsum's Patent Heels ($547). You will be hard-pressed to find an outfit that doesn't match them and they are a refreshing change from your basic black pumps.

6. Ann Taylor Grey Deco Bib Necklace ($59)
We are officially anointing Bailey king of the statement necklaces this season! Not only did he yield spiky necklaces that are downright badass, but he left us in extra awe with these jeweled adornments.

7. Topshop Black Lurex Rib Tights ($19)
Fashion is in the details, so be sure to complete any Burberry-influenced ensemble by slipping into these tights! Their metallic accents insinuate to the hints of luster seen in nearly every outfit worn by the Burberry models.

8. Delia's Ainsley Coat ($90)
When we saw the pleated bottom on this otherwise classic peacoat, we had an eureka moment! It completely encompasses the feel of Bailey's double-breasted outerwear designs and the price is right!

MEP- I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with a deleted comment...I wonder what happened there?! My comment wasn't even cruel or crass..odd.

Stephanie, my post on Lou Doillon about the prices was deleted too, after the prices were fixed. I hope no one impales her wrist on that bracelet! Sheesh!

Great suggestions, WWW! I would normally have never looked twice at the FCUK dress but with all these details, you guys are right- it has so much potential! Also love the Club Monaco clutch. Is it normal that I posted a comment on the Lou Doillon for Lee Cooper post (07.11.08) and now it's been deleted?
