Insider's Picks: Coco Rocha

Many moons ago, back when WhoWhatWear.com was basically brand new, we anointed a fresh-faced Canadian—the fantastic and personality-filled Coco Rocha—as our Model of the Moment. We’re pleased to report that she’s been squarely in the spotlight ever since and are thrilled to feature her Insider’s Picks today.

The impetus for this piece has been building for ages now, as we’ve been following Rocha’s career closely and enjoying her meteoric rise! She's busy enough to hold a practically permanent place on the Top Ten List at Models.com (#3 at press time!), due the fact that she stars in key campaigns (Chanel, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent), appears in leading publications (check out her latest editorial, "Love of a Lifetime," in the December Vogue), and astounds the fashion crowd with catwalk surprises (like Irish dancing down Jean Paul Gaultier's runway!).

All of these milestones led Rocha to her current superstar status, a fact that is cemented by the unveiling of her very own Rootstein Mannequin this week. As a Rootstein Mannequin, she'll join the likes of Twiggy, Pat Cleavland, and our first MOTM Agyness Deyn, as one of the few supermodels immortalized by the world's leading plastic figure company—pretty fantastic stuff for a 20-year-old, eh? We'd venture to say she's at the top of her game, but every time we think she's reached her pinnacle, Rocha raises the bar and reminds us that she's just getting started.

While Rocha continues to elevate and master her on-camera duties, her off-the-clock style has undergone an equally impressive transition. Upon perusal of her various event ensembles, we were repeatedly struck by her stellar choices. Rocha tends to wear classic silhouettes, but always keeps things interesting with unique accessories (like architecturally interesting heels or the intricate gold head scarf worn with a floor-length gown to a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund event last month) and smoky eye makeup. All in all, Rocha possesses a keen eye for excellence, which is manifested in the compilation of items she chose for you today!—Jessica Amento

Rag & Bone Hussar Jacket ($580)
Rocha is deeply enthusiastic about many of the designs from Rag & Bone and praises the label's riding pants, jeans, and blazers. Chief among her favorite pieces is this navy-colored cavalry-styled coat, which perfectly fits in with this season's popular military-inspired looks.

Aldo Flolorn Boots ($130)
In some ways, models are just like the rest of us! Yes, dear readers, it seems like Rocha shares our love of high caliber accessories with practical price points, hence her weakness for Aldo shoes. Right now, her favorite style is the Flolorn ankle boots; they're a wardrobe essential!

Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor ($14)
We are charmed with our Insider’s selection of this rags-to-riches novel. At the time of the book's 1940s publication, the historical romance was considered highly provocative (it was banned in Boston), but, despite the controversy, it ended up as one of the era's best-selling books. Just consider it a model must-read!

Thakoon Metropolis Sunglasses ($295, 212.226.8276)
Rocha usually walks in Thakoon's biannual shows, so of course she's a passionate supporter of the former-fashion-writer-turned-designer’s accessory line. Currently she's besotted with a selection of shades, including these sweet, dark tortoiseshell Metropolis frames. Throw them on with any ensemble to achieve the perfect model-off-duty vibe.

De Beers Talisman Signet Sun Ring ($2200)
When accessorizing, Rocha's first jewelry pick is a hand-me-down pinky ring from her mom, but she also dotes on this gold and diamond sparkling cocktail ring from De Beers. Keep an eye out for her starring role in their Spring 09 campaign!

YSL Elle Perfume ($61)
Rocha handpicked this new fragrance from YSL as her beauty must-buy. We trust her scents sense and think it will make a great stocking stuffer!

Michael Kors Black ID Chain Tote ($1495)
This jaw-dropping piece of arm candy meets Rocha's two main handbag requirements: it's stylish and practical! The tote's chain-link details coincides with fall's chain craze, while the neutral color and large size make it a sensible investment.

Chanel Gloves ($1295, 800.550.0005) The moment we first laid eyes on these luxe gloves, we began tailoring our December budgets to accommodate the expenditure. We are smitten with their holiday-appropriate bow detailing and commend Rocha for appointing such a fine accessory!

christina, those are definitely different boots in her picks than in the photo. for one, she's wearing peap-toes in the photo, which the picked boots are not. anyway.... i love her outfit from the knees up! i could never pull off that jacket because i've already got wide shoulders and it seems like it'd add to that in a bad way. however, she looks great. i like everything but the blazer and the sunglasses.

Coco looks fabulous and i LOVE her style. Everything she picked is super cute and chic and her own style. And Aldo shoes def dont look cheap, she is wearing them in her pic too and they look great!

I like the modern yet classic look of the outfit she is wearing, though her face does not look good at all. Aside from the gloves and the ring, I do not like anything, especially the sunglasses and the boots. I think they looked cheap and overplayed.

I had the "pleasure" of meeting her when she came into my store...and she was a complete bitch lacking any sense of style.

Sorry to be nitpicky, but Forever Amber actually takes place in the 1660's, not the 1800's... But I love the picks, and Coco pulls off that blazer in her picture amazingly. moderndreamer.blogspot.com

Oooh, her face in that photo is not fierce at all. Do not aspire to look like *that*! This post was a little so-so, but I did like the uh...blazer, yeah. The blazer...

I love Rag and Bone. Too bad it's not exactly affordable.

I love her! I love how she's Canadian, makes me think that maybe I have a chance in the modelling industry. I like the bag and the outfit she is wearing
