Girl Of The Month

Girl Of The Month: Olivia Palermo

If you aren't familiar with Olivia Palermo yet, pay extra attention today, dear readers! It's only a matter of time before this chic socialite is on everyone's radar, as she stars alongside Whitney Port in MTV's east coast spinoff of The HillsThe City. If the show, which premiered December 29th, attains even a fraction of the success as its Los Angeles predecessor, she is sure to become a household name. Long a fixture on the stylish Manhattan social circuit, Palermo's poised for mass insta-fame, thanks in part to her gorgeous features (sparkling eyes, perfect hair, bright smile) and polished appearance. Luckily, we caught up with the soon-to-be celeb and crowned her our Girl of the Month for January!

Just like any well-seasoned New York City gal, Olivia Palermo plans dinner parties, attends exclusive events, and stays in tune with the fashion world. Concerning the latter, her position at Diane Von Furstenberg definitely gives her an insider's advantage! In addition to the influence of her workplace, Palermo stays style savvy from reading her newsstand favorites (Vogue, ELLE, InStyle) and by globe-trotting. "My environment inspires me," she says. "Whenever I travel, I absorb the culture." Palermo's appreciation of the street chic she spots in London, Paris, Berlin, and New York City is evident in the array of interesting and enviable outfits she wears!

Along with many of our GOTM alumni, Palermo is a master at blending inexpensive pieces, high-end designer items, and vintage articles to establish her sophisticated style. She keeps things interesting by trying several different shapes and lengths, rather than playing it safe in a single silhouette. From the Diane Von Furstenberg Jacket, American Apparel Interlock Pencil Skirt ($32), and Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Platform Sandalsicon ($760) ensemble she wore to the launch of DVF's Wonder Woman Charity Collection to the Jenni Kayne blazer and maxi skirt (both from S/S 08), and vintage Hermes clutch she sported to the Run Fatboy Run premiere, the soon-to-be star pulls off said variety of looks!

Palmero’s preference for statement-making accessories is also noteworthy. For example, we love the bright blue CC Skye Niki Clutch ($310) she carried to the launch of Lia Sophia's 2020 Collection. It added the perfect pop of color to her otherwise neutral ensemble, which was comprised of a Kmart Tie Neck Blouse ($11), Dress Queen Vest ($145, 212-979-8889), and Aldo Hurren Heels ($110). Palermo's personal favorite Roni Stretch Plate Belt ($55, 212-979-8889) is another fantastic piece. She cinched it over a Zara vest and vintage skirt for a modish effect at a Bergdorf Goodman-hosted Manolo Blahnik event.

Now that we've given you the WWW lowdown on this polished young lady, we trust you'll keep your eyes on her! You can do so by tuning into The City each Monday night to ogle more of her outfits, as well as the glamorous shots of Palermo's skyscraper neighborhood!—Jessica Amento

4 steps to get Olivia's eclectic style: http://www.mylifetime.com/all-the-looks/all-the-looks-insider-blog/fashion-formula-olivia-palermos-mix-and-match-style

Her style is amazing (funky yet elegant) and she is stunning. A great pick for girl of the month. A nice change from all the cut-off jean shorts that keep popping up lately.

Posted by: ophelie |  2009-07-16 15:18:21

Ugh! I'm so sick of these biased people basing their judgements on "reality" tv! I don't understand how they can all be so naive! Back to FASHION, Olivia is so polished. She has the talent of making mid-range clothes look very expensive. She's a fashion inspiration with her sophisticated taste without losing creativity. WWW, please remove these comments that clearly have nothing to do with fashion!! WWW should not deal with childish mentalities!

Posted by: Mae |  2009-04-25 00:33:20

is it just me or has anyone else noticed how her knee is wierdly sticking out in the picture fourth from the left.......I hate that stuck up bitch

Posted by: kelly |  2009-03-22 19:10:53

She needs to be taken down a peg or two, such a nasty character...

Posted by: clara |  2009-03-19 16:47:23

She has money, so she can buy nice things. She is not fashion forward, or any more fashionable then a million girls in NYC!

Posted by: EE VON E |  2009-03-03 14:07:49

She is so incredibly obnoxious and stuck up but she has impeccable taste and i absolutely adore what she wears on every occasion.

Posted by: Kendra Ferraro |  2009-02-26 07:34:58

why do girls constantly bring other girls down? its so ugly.

Posted by: michelle  |  2009-01-29 20:45:45

really? i'm assuming she has friends who work for you guys. the girl has the personality of a wet rag. Great clothes don't make up for a terrible personality.

Posted by: Caitlyn Graham |  2009-01-28 11:08:12

You guys are so immature! You are biased because of the show. HELLO, its fake!! Stop bagging on this beautiful girl, haters!

Posted by: Valerie |  2009-01-27 10:51:54

She should take a look at herself before she looks down on other people - she's nothing great!

Posted by: Olivia |  2009-01-21 10:29:44

She can dress and she's even pretty - I love her hair; however she's a real B***H!

Posted by: Olivia |  2009-01-21 10:28:12

I think she's a great dresser and very prtetty - I ove her hair; howver she's a real B***H!

Posted by: Olivia |  2009-01-21 10:26:55

PS- I've never watched the show- I don't even have cable! Her style. Is boring. PERIOD. I've done some variety of every single thing she's wearing. (except the bows, because I find huge bows ghastly. Also, I have boobs.)

Posted by: missy |  2009-01-20 15:12:51

I'm disappointed in WWWD.... big time. I've disagreed with some of the of GOTM choices, but at least they were interesting..... this girl is pure skim milk vanilla frap. Socialites certainly have enough money to look interesting... why pick such a bland one? Fabiola Berecasa has WAAAAAAY more interesting style & than this chick. Nothing against her, pretty girl... but nothing innovative. Tsk, tsk WWWD.

Posted by: missy |  2009-01-20 15:04:39

Welcome to America where we worship the "it girl".

Posted by: MS |  2009-01-19 16:37:11

don't hate, ladies. i'm glad she's back on top. she's fabulous.

Posted by: cece |  2009-01-13 16:31:01

CHILL OUT! Geez. This girls style is not that bad. I bet the same people who are slamming her for being GOTM are people who think Lauren Conrad and Blake Lively are style icons. Ha please. At least Olivia looks half decent, even though I'm not a 100% fan of her style as it's too put together and polished, she has had some nice outfits. And Whitney Port as GOTM? Give me a break, that girl has bland style and if you want to harp on about personality (Olivias personality on the show is fake, in order to create a character, fyi, like it wasnt obvious), Whitney is as vapid as they get. Also, that first outfit you picked for Olivia is hideous, at least post nice outfits?

Posted by: b |  2009-01-13 10:58:23

Does anyone know the designer who did Olivia's hexagonal diamond stud earrings? She wears them a lot. They could even be the same company as Whitney's round diamond studs. Anyone?

Posted by: nancyyy |  2009-01-13 09:54:18

Boring and uninspiring. She has money, but clearly no style...or personality.

Posted by: Amber  |  2009-01-12 21:10:03

Her style is so contrived. No originality, just what she hopes the designers she calls "friends" will deem fashionable.

Posted by: hannnnah |  2009-01-12 20:09:17

I cannot believe is gotm, she has no style i mean it looks like what every girl wear it's not different or interesting, she is no inspiration, she probably has a stylist dressing her up, so unoriginal, i am very disappointed that she is girl of the month. She is just like all the other celebrites, they have money but they don't know how to spend it clothes, such a shame. But she's really pretty which means she can get away with a lot of things, but she's also pretty mean and fake I guess that why so many people hate her.

Posted by: kelly |  2009-01-12 18:19:16

to all the mean posts: This isnt the place to be complaining about her personality, this blog is about fashion & style! I admit, she isn't my stlye but she does dress well and is noteworthy. and, i don't find her mean on the city, she reminds me of claire from clueless, trying to help everyone. think about that!

Posted by: laurenzo |  2009-01-12 17:39:10

I give her credit for her knowing what's up in fashion, but what's her style?

Posted by: Ashley |  2009-01-12 16:21:11

The City, and the people in it, are about as "real" as Heidi Montag's boobs. Olivia is certainly pretty and polished, but hardly inspirational.

Posted by: Tracy |  2009-01-12 14:17:29

I think this girl is the worse pick for GOTM. She is a total bitch on the show and this is exactly what she wanted out of it. She has not, and hopefully will not become famous from her role on The City. i know that GOTM is not all about the girl's personality but all this girl does on The City is flaunt her ties to other socialites and tries to make Whitney feel bad about absolutely nothing. I also do not think that her style is any more unique than any girl who is in to fashion and has the priviledge to travel around the world and see different fashion shows.

Posted by: Brooke |  2009-01-12 14:05:38

The problem with reality TV is you get to see the personalities behind the girl. Every time she opens her mouth she loses a notch in my beauty book. I appreciate that this is a fashion blog, and yes her fashion style is amazing, but was all the sugary phrase really all that necessary? www.diaryyummymummy.blogspot.com

Posted by: robin anderson |  2009-01-12 13:41:14

She is a joke! She is trying so hard and it comes through in her clothes. She dresses no better than any other fashion forward girl.. and i dont think shes worthy of being the girl of the month. I like when WWW puts girls with their own sense of style... not a socialite princess.

Posted by:  |  2009-01-12 11:57:56

okay, so I definitely like the peices that she has strung together, but why is WWW praising her so much? Olivia Palermo is obviously beautiful, but I just don't think she is this amazing person. I personaly think that she is somewhat of a social climber, but I do like her style.

Posted by: kash |  2009-01-12 07:03:28

um the person who wrote "no thanks" you are an idiot. Blair warldorf is not based on her in any way... where did you pull that from?

Posted by: suzie |  2009-01-12 03:27:28

I AM TOO BUSY LOOKING AT HER FREAK KNEE CAP TO NOTICE HER STYLE.

Posted by: cait |  2009-01-11 16:06:47

Yet another girl famous for being rich. Wow, she is so inspirational! How the hell does she relate to the readers of Who What Wear.com? It is obvious from the comments, that whowhatwear's readership couldn't care less about debutantes..

Posted by: Jasmin |  2009-01-11 14:37:18

She doesn't interest me in the LEAST. However, homegirl has the best shoes I've seen in a while.

Posted by: The Minx |  2009-01-11 13:28:36

Her face is the only thing that will probably make her a "soon-to-be-celeb". She otherwise just appears to be very spoiled, insecure, jealous and lacks a personality. I have never heard of her before the show "The City". The clothes are cute, but she probably has a stylist. My advice, eat a sandwich!

Posted by: Dani |  2009-01-11 05:38:56

What a cute girl! I haven't watched this show, but great style, and I'm sure we will see more of her! Henri-Odette.com Cheers!

Posted by: Olivia |  2009-01-10 19:43:30

Her style is ho-hum in my opinion, and she looks like a snob and a half. Worthy of GOTM? I don't think so. Not just yet anyway...

Posted by: cynth |  2009-01-10 18:54:41

Whitney interned for WWD (Women's Wear Daily) NOT WWW (WhoWhatWear.com). Two COMPLETELY different companies. WWD is a well-established and respected trade magazine/website among fashion insiders, while WWW is...a site for teenagers.

Posted by: Kate |  2009-01-10 13:56:52

She is pretty but this girl is SO INSECURE about herself it's funny. She doesn't really have much of a personality either but that's no shocker. I'm not sure I'm entirely impressed with her style considering she looks above average at best compared to Manhattan standards. I like how she pairs certain outfits together but I think it's the face that carries the outfit not vice versa. Personally I think the fictional character based on her Blair Waldorf dresses better than her!! Is it just me or did she also lose a ton of weight recently? She looks gaunt compared to her chubby days at St. Luke's!!

Posted by: No Thanks! |  2009-01-10 12:31:32

Can I just point out that in the fourth picture, her kneecap looks like it's trying to escape from her leg? Does anyone else just see a rich white girl with too much money and not enough style (or body mass, for that matter)?

Posted by: eliza |  2009-01-10 11:34:28

HER OUTFITS BORE THE HELL OUT OF ME! HOW SOMEONE CAN FIND THIS STUFF INSPIRATIONAL OR WORTH ANY KIND OF TITLE IS A MYSTERY TO ME. I HAVE NEVER WATCHED THE SHOW NOR HAVE I HEARD OF THIS GIRL BUT FROM WHAT I SEE SHE ABSOLUTELY HAS NOOO STYLE (STYLE MEANT IN THE SENSE OF SOMETHING PERSONAL, INSPIRING OR FASHION-FORWARD). PERIOD.

Posted by: zoe |  2009-01-10 08:45:29

I love the fact that she combines an $11 shirt and $310 clutch. That is true fashion.

Posted by: Avé  |  2009-01-10 06:25:11

I have no clue who this girl is but I really dont know why her style is worthy of GOTM. I think it should be given to those with true creative style like Alexis Chung. This girl just seems like a typical rich blonde anorexic girl who hangs out at trendy clubs and has daddys credit card. And from what Ive read Im not alone.

Posted by: angel |  2009-01-10 04:14:38

Hey maybe I'm wrong BUT DIDIN'T WE SEE OLIVIA IN PETRA NEMCOVA MODEL CONTEST SHOW????? she was a very dark ,shy, rebel girl. I'm wrong ???

Posted by: YAS |  2009-01-10 02:01:19

i like her outfits, especially the one with the studded belt. and she's beautiful. but i just can't get past the fact that she's not exactly the nicest person on The City.

Posted by: carmen |  2009-01-10 01:51:02

JULES---I'd like to know where you got your "information." Since when has Whitney Port EVER worked at Who What Wear????

Posted by: whaaa?? |  2009-01-09 21:17:29

Well, I'm not from the US, so i haven't watched her show and therefore can only judge her style...I find it fabulous! I like all her outfits, especially the ones with the vest and the long skirt!

Posted by: Elena |  2009-01-09 17:46:13

Oh-my-God, this woman is gorgeous! And I love how all of her outfits have a different personality but still has the same 'signature' with some sort of tailored piece. I am disregarding other posts and am stating fact - this girl knows how to dress herself.

Posted by: mheflick |  2009-01-09 17:14:36

This is a whowhatwear wear they talk about peoples style not the way they are portrayed on TV. As far as I'm concerned none of you truly know therefore have no right to be calling her evil and coniving. Judge her on her fashion since and not the way the producers at the the city make her out to be. Personally I think she has great style and puts her pieces together very nicely.

Posted by: Sophia |  2009-01-09 16:40:03

Uhhhh highly agree with the comments...First MTV chooses to make a show about maybe one of the most uninteresting characters on The Hills, but then this girl shows up out of nowhere and is all of a sudden fashionable? you guys know better!! www.choice-threads.com

Posted by: lisa |  2009-01-09 15:09:16

Seriously who is she? The daughter of who? She has a good looking face, and of course with all that money she can afford anything she wants, even her damned apt on Tribeca. She's not my fav girl, tho, not because of her snobby personality on The City. She's alright, neutral. Her style is not my style either. I love ERIN!!! Even my bf thinks she's cute, not Olivia. I've seen Whitney Port at JFK airport, she was actually sitting 3 feet from where I sat. We're waiting on Virgin America back to LA. It was back in May 08. She's so down to earth and look better in person. She's just a normal girl, very tall though.

Posted by: Patrice |  2009-01-09 14:21:41

OKAY. It is suspiciously timely that Oliva is GOTM, however, if she was just a random socialite that WWW decided to bring to the spotlight most people would be impressed with her polished and chic style! I think that MTV totally edits the shit out of her "character" and although she seems slightly vapid we haven't seen anything HORRENDEOUS come from her. She's gorgeous, stylish and probably a little bit insecure. No more insecure than those who write bitchy things on a blog about a girl they know nothing about. I'll buy into her "terrible personality" when I see her do something terrible... for now, she seems fine to me.

Posted by: nicole |  2009-01-09 13:55:42

eww

Posted by: Alana |  2009-01-09 13:50:09

To Claire - I watched one episode. I admit I was curious and wanted to see what it was about. However, I don't think it's the way they portray her as much as it is how she's acting in front of the camera. Plus, if you think she's actually "somebody", that's sad. Just because she's on TV doesn't make her somebody and everyone else a "nobody".

Posted by: Madeline |  2009-01-09 13:41:16

whatever

Posted by: molly horne |  2009-01-09 13:23:45

Im not a fan of her either, but her style is definately GOTM worthy.

Posted by: ripan |  2009-01-09 13:16:35

You guys hate on the city soo much but it is obvious you are watching it. You may not like her style or what her network makes her out to be, but she is the one here not you. She is somebody and your just a pissed off nobody.

Posted by: claire |  2009-01-09 13:12:12

haha, clearly not the most adored girl on the planet... i love the last outfit. i do think she would look better and be taken a little more seriously if she gained 10 pounds, the 'skinny' doesn't suit her.

Posted by: sarah  |  2009-01-09 12:51:28

She looks really nice, but I wouldn't consider her a fashion inspiration for me.

Posted by: Laurie  |  2009-01-09 12:49:23

Alright, I happen to NOT be a fan of Olivia's either... I didn't think much of her even before The City, but now I definitely think she's got a few screws loose. Despite that, I CAN admit that's she's absolutely gorgeous and has great style, which is why I can tolerate her as GOTM. This is supposed to be about style and hate her or not, she's got it.

Posted by: Eva |  2009-01-09 12:07:33

LOVE her. do you guys seriously believe the city or the hills? how many times have we heard that its all scripted. of course shes portrayed as snotty and bitchy. whitney is obviously the protagonist. and her style is cute. she has great skin, and she has a job just like the rest of us. im sure most of us are more snotty/bitchy and whatever. its just sad that she was pulled into the tabloids and into all that drama early on.

Posted by: erika |  2009-01-09 12:06:41

have to agree with 99% of the posts in here - I was shocked to see Ms. Palermo on here as Girl of the Month. Sure, she has fine style, but I dont think she has any other redeeming fashion or style qualities to qualify her as girl of the month. Her horrible personality aside, she's just not that exciting. I love to see girls up here who are not just incredibly fashionable, but also have something going for them - whether that be an acting career (I think we can all agree "The City" does not require actors), a music career, artistic talent, etc. Sorry WWW, you definitely missed the mark on this one.

Posted by: lindsay |  2009-01-09 11:33:54

Oh my goodness ladies! If I was Olivia and I read your comments I would burst into tears! Just because she's thin does not mean anything is *wrong* with her; we all come in different shapes and sizes. And although her style isn't anything groundbreaking, you have to admit she doesn't miss a beat and she does always dress well. Temper, temper ladies... www.RunawayGallery.com

Posted by: RunawayGallery |  2009-01-09 11:13:02

OK... This post is about her style not her personality! Come on ladies you've got to stop *hating* on Olivia. She's bad ass! Y-MUS-U-H8?!

Posted by: lannie |  2009-01-09 10:58:26

Her style is nice, nothing new, really. Its kind of hard to have your on originally these days since they're are so many things to try out. (I'm keeping it nice because I'm a little put off by her to honest.)

Posted by: Champagne |  2009-01-09 10:41:23

Ugh I hate Olivia Palermo. Her style is okay but I think there are so many better choices. This post really turned me off. Whitney has much better style. Even ERIN has better style. How dreadful.

Posted by: Gina |  2009-01-09 10:25:02

I do like her style but I agree with others that the girl is totally snotty and TOO skinny.

Posted by: rhea |  2009-01-09 10:12:20

well i absolutely love her!! i think she is a fun person lol.she is cute and i do have a crush on her! a big one! i was like wtf when i saw this today, follow your blog on bloglovin. but like i was saying they did something on Olivia Palermo? wow. i just posted some of her pics on my blog>http://ilovemakonnen.blogspot.com great job!!!

Posted by: MAKONNEN |  2009-01-09 10:06:52

All you have to do is google her. The articles about her on Gawker are hilarious. We all know that these shows are fake, do we not? DVF, Teen Vogue, even Brent Bolthouse get a boost when these so called "employees" work there. Her face is pretty, she's thin but her style is kind of weak.

Posted by: Gawker Fan |  2009-01-09 09:57:24

Really? All of these shows, The Hills, The City, etc. are a joke. I don't think any of these girls have GREAT style, but instead just have the money to ATTEMPT to look great. I DO think Olivia has better style than any of the other girls on the City/Hills, but her snotty fake personality just ruins everything. I know it isn't supposed to be about personality, but I can't help but think of that when I see this.

Posted by: Madeline |  2009-01-09 09:39:55

TOTALLY agree with some of the comments! SHAME ON YOU WHOWHATWEAR staff. Unless she is totally misrepresented on THE CITY this girl seems like the girls in this world i cant help but hate. Every time i see her snotty insecure fakeness it makes my stomach turn. Besides the personality which i dont like, she probably has a stylist for all the events she goes to..she is a social afterall. Her style is not BAD if but not specail...just over thought (think V. Beckham).

Posted by: nia |  2009-01-09 09:35:52

Whatever, the editors of the City make her more bitchy probably. She has good style and that's all i come here for. i dont care if she's nice or not.

Posted by: Kathryn |  2009-01-09 09:04:33

From what i have seen of her on The City, Olivia is a stuck up, conniving, self-opinionated snob. There are way better choices for "girl of the month", girls who use imagination and creativity when they get dressed - not what they saw in the Barney's display window. I'm so disappointed in this choice :(

Posted by: Bridg |  2009-01-09 08:53:12

This post is just inflating her ego even more. Also- what is happening with her knee in the fourth picture? Someone needs to eat some more...

Posted by: Viv |  2009-01-09 08:51:56

I love her style! She can afford the high end items but incorporates inexpensive pieces into her looks. She might seem snooty on The City but remember that MTV produces shows that way. I find her utterly beautiful and very chic! swankheights.blogspot.com

Posted by: juley |  2009-01-09 08:49:26

I don't know what you guys are talking about. she's so cute. also, whitney port never interned at www, and she was already a girl of the month.

Posted by: thegreenfairy |  2009-01-09 08:30:14

The girl of the month? Honestly? I would have to agree with the comments above, she is not that exciting. From her persona on The City, it appears that she wouldn't be caught dead in a K-mart top or Steve Madden shoes. Not that there is anything wrong with either, but she dares to describe herself as a "social". Even if others considered you a socialite, there is no reason to be so snotty and stuck up. She is absolutely dreadful.

Posted by: Sara Kate |  2009-01-09 08:29:44

personality aside (because thats not really what this article is about), i still think shes boring. Every look on here is 1)cute little dress 2)black tights under that cute little dress 3)black sandals on her feet 4) menswear blazer/vest layered on top. A girl of the month should not have predictable style.

She's beautiful but horrible. I bet she is so excited you are claiming she is wearing an $11 blouse from Kmart.

I am assuming this is a paid "The City" ad, and I hope they paid you well. If I was a "social", I don't think I would be on some reality show, and I definitely would be wearing some amazing clothes. (these looks = not so amazing)

I think Whitney should be the girl of the month. At least she seems like she's a sweet girl. While I'm sure olivia is edited to the nth degree for effect, I don't think being nasty and elitist is something to promote. Everyone should be proud of where they come from and not be ashamed of their family's success, or lack thereof. Let's try and put the popularity of mean girls to rest shall we. It's soooo tired. Love the show, though...

i agree, she's gorgeous, but have you ever watched the city? she is absolutely obnoxious! and honestly, i don't think her style is so groundbreaking either.

her hair is nice and she is really pretty!! she incorporates her outfit with a mixture of expensive and inexpensive pieces. she deserves to be girl of the month. i don't see why people keeps saying negative things about her. it's like you read gossip about her and you think you've got her all figured out.

It looks to me like she pretty much just wears expensive clothes.

Separate who she is from her wardrobe and style. I mean the girl knows how to dress and I know I would DIE to play in her closet!!

This post is a conflict of interest. Whitney used to intern (work) for Who What Wear, seems like more than a coincidence that as soon as she gets her own show, Who What Wear is pimping The City out. Interesting...

"She (Olivia Palermo) transmits her ding-dong thoughts in imperious glares, and reeks of the insecurities of entitlement. She wants to make sure Whitney understands who she is, though we are given no idea of where in the world the Palermo name is supposed to resonate. At a press event for Manolo Blahnik, she tells Whitney she got her first pair of the designer’s heels for her coming-out party, then says it again after she has claimed that Manolo himself is a family friend even as he barely appears to recognize her." ---New York Times on Olivia Palermo who is now on The City with Whitney Port

Her style isn't bad but why i she the girl of the month. What are the qualifications? Future well known fame whore? I also heard her daddy's going broke what's that about?
