Girl Of the Month: Becka Diamond

Though we primarily pay attention to the clothes and designers during fashion week, we'd be lying if we didn't admit that these industry events also offer other forms of entertainment. Frankly, we delight in watching the other attendees, and particularly enjoy noting which well-dressed ladies stand out as leaders of the posh pack. During the past show season in New York, however, we found ourselves rooting for a fresh face who almost instantaneously distinguished herself as a fashionable force: Becka Diamond. This Boston-born aspiring actress won us over with her own brand of edgy chic (French Vogue's Emmanuelle Alt is one of her influences) and rock' n' roll insouciance (Iggy Pop, Axl Rose, and Keith Richard's former paramour Anita Pallenberg are three of her fashion icons). While she's been making waves showing up at all the right parties with best friend, Alexander Wang-muse, and former GOTM Dree Hemingway, we think it’s a sure bet when we say that you will fall in love with the singular style of our October Girl of The Month, Becka Diamond!

Spotted outside of the Elise Overland show in February (above, far left), Diamond was dressed like a champ in Alexander Wang's Velvet Cape from the designer's F/W 08 collection; we love how the black trim contrasts with not only the shimmering gold material of the coat but also her bleached blond bob. Worn with a pair of Les Chiffoniers Leather Leggings with Zips ($843) and a treasured vintage tee, this is certainly a contender for our favorite Diamond ensemble. Though her cape-coat is no longer available, try Topshop's Premium Satin Longline Blazer ($160) with a pair of sleek body-con bottoms like Armani Exchange's Faux Leather Leggings ($48); the former matches Diamond's choice in sheen and color, but in the price department, our selection has the original beat! Another knock-out component to her look is our GOTM's affinity for edgy accessories; though she is rarely spotted without her oversized emerald green Yves Saint Laurent Arty Ovale Ring ($195), we think Rachel Leigh's Gumball Ring ($72) is a great semi-precious alternative to Diamond's designer hand candy!

It appears that statement outerwear and must-have leather skinnies are a bit of a Diamond trademark, as the look she wore to Alexander Wang's after-party (second from left) proves. Like her fashionable peers Lauren Santo Domingo and Vanessa Traina, Diamond has been spotted around town in Altuzarra pieces, proving that she has a keen eye for emerging design talents. The much-buzzed about line from the Proenza Schouler and Givenchy alum, Joseph Altuzarra has quickly become a sartorial star on the rise, and for good reason—clearly this is not your mother's mink or sweater set! Our GOTM rocked the Ivory Drop Shoulder Seamed Knit with Pearl Mink Tails ($1530, 212.826.8900) with Alexander Wang's Stretch Snakeskin Pants ($474) to add a hard edge to her statement top. The look is sophisticated, unique, and totally chic. If you are a fan of her fur-adorned piece, try Jill Stuart's Adelaide Sweater ($578) for a fringe-festooned crème choice.

While we appreciate Diamond's styling deftness with her beloved skin-tight trousers, we also appreciate the interesting way she plays with texture and color in her eveningwear choices. Seen attending the Sundance Channel and Proenza Schouler-hosted premiere of The Day Before, Diamond rocked Alexandre Herchcovitch's Smoking Sequin Dress ($1650, 212.219.2688) with a beloved pair of Alaia heels (second from right). Her eye-catching ensemble makes a bold statement with its multi-color, multi-patterned design and gathered sparkly material. Take a lesson from Diamond's playbook and try Haute Hippie's Illusion Fringe Sequined Dress ($595) or their Sequin-Embellished Tank Dress ($365) for your next cocktail occasion and be prepared to steal the show!

Of course, today's story wouldn't be complete without showcasing our GOTM in rock' n' roll's fabric of life: leather. Though she singles out her Rick Owens Blister Leather Biker Jacket ($2695) as her favorite piece of clothing to wear with everything, we like how Diamond mixed it with a feminine floral Alexandre Herchcovitch Beaded Dress ($925, 212.219.2688) to attend Anna Sui's S/S 10 show at the Bryant Park Tents during New York fashion week (far right). Though the Rick Owens jacket is a classic and well worth the investment, we also like Dallin Chase's Jasper Leather Jacket ($598) or Silence & Noise's Faux Leather Jacket ($128); combine any of these outerwear options with a diaphanous flower printed dress like Paul Smith's Multicoloured River Print Sleeveless Dress ($369) to get a Diamond-worthy ensemble. Just finish off the look with Proenza Schouler's Suede Snub-Toe Ankle Boots ($795) as our GOTM did (or try the Laceup Bootie ($78) from Deena & Ozzy for a more modestly priced alternative) and you'll be ready for any fashionable occasion that may come your way! For an even more authentic Diamond quality appearance, use a heavy hand while applying a dark eyeliner like Diamond's favorite MAC's Kohl Power Eye Pencil ($15) in Feline to look like fashion's newest It girl!

LMAO, Meadow. You are dead-on about the "tampon sweater". This girl is a big, sloppy mess. Is the after party hangover look now considered chic? Can someone please forward the memo?

She's a little too "messy" looking for me. I do like the weird tampon sweater tho lol. www.vivaswag.com

Her face reminds me of Britney's, and her style choices are equally questionable. I do, however, fancy that large green ring...

i have seen this girl all around town at the usual places and she is so fun. really adorable and her style is kick butt, it's about time she was featured on who what wear. x noirblancetrougepartout.blogspot.com

Her style is kickin'. Nylon mag online just did a article on her too. I think my favorite thing about her is that white blonde/dark roots carefree hair that she rocks. She almost looks like actress Maggie Grace, from LOST and Taken.
