As an extension of The Zoe Report's Q&A feature Ask Rachel, each week the celebrity stylist will answer one of your burning fashion questions exclusively for Who What Wear readers!

I'm attending a baby shower this October, what should I wear? I'm a New Yorker and the weather may be chilly.

One might assume that attending a baby shower means you no longer have the opportunity to exercise your fashion freedom. Au contraire, I think the celebratory occasion is the perfect opportunity to showcase your latest fashion finds amongst a group of your greatest girlfriends. Typically for a baby shower, you will find yourself in a brunch or lunch setting, so when it comes to your wardrobe, think: early afternoon apparel—something light and airy.

If you choose to go with a dress, opt for a classic belt wrap silhouette. The shape is timeless and ultra feminine, plus it will flatter almost any body type. Don't be afraid to get creative and shop for one in a floral print—florals are not just a thing for spring! Of course, since you are in New York and chilly weather is a concern, you can try a printed jacquard sweater dress—talk about versatility and functionality! If you prefer separates instead of a dress, I recommend a long printed skirt paired with a chicly subtle button-down blouse.

In terms of outerwear, I propose two fab options—a little leather jacket or an elegant trench coat. The leather jacket is great because it will add some unexpected edge to your ladylike ensemble, plus it can help transition your outfit from daytime to night, if needed. Of course, you can also never go wrong with a traditional trench, they are a classic chilly weather staple.

For footwear I suggest you try a pair of heeled loafers; it's a huge trend this season. Pick one in a masculine shade of cognac that will juxtapose beautifully with the feminine tan color of your leather jacket or trench coat. If you're not into the idea of heeled loafers, go for suede platform booties instead. Also, if it's extra chilly the day of the baby shower, you can outfit your stems in a pair of black opaque tights for a look that is cozy and sophisticated.

Since this is a daytime event, I wouldn't go too crazy in the accessories department. Adorn your neck with a chunky gold necklace or a wrap scarf for added warmth if desired. Finally, carry all your day's essentials in a textured satchel or classic tote and you are set to go.
