With so many noteworthy floral prints and 3-D designs surfacing this spring, we feel a little like fashion floriculturists here at WWW, meticulously working to analyze and cultivate each botanical-inspired trend for your edification. The topic under our microscope today is this season's beautiful beaded blossoms! Whether they're bejeweled (Christopher Kane), embroidered (Emily Blunt), sequined (Teresa Palmer), or appliqued (Caroline Sieber), these glitzy and romantic florals are sprouting up all over the fashion scene, offering a fresh and glamorous spin on a springtime staple. Ideal for summer weddings and fancy soirees under the stars, today's Trend Report proves beaded blossoms will make you feel like anything but a wallflower this season!
On The Runway/Sequins
Per usual, flowery fashion flourished on the S/S 12 runways; however, it was Christopher Kane's diamond-encrusted rendition that solidified beaded botanicals as a must-try trend for all. The London-based Scottish designer masterfully anchored feminine dresses with clusters of bejeweled florals for a stunning result that was equal parts elegant and edgy. We are particularly inspired by the collection's finale look, shown above. Though the diamonds embellished on the Romnee Embroidered Dress (price upon request), the Plastic & Glass Beads Clutch ($2400) and Jeweled Sandals ($1065, 212.206.1272) are decidedly fancy, the frock's understated silhouette and neutral color palette make it a desirable and completely wearable choice for daytime too!
On The Red Carpet/Sequins
We are thrilled to see this bold outfit idea blooming off the runways as well, thanks to leading ladies like Emily Blunt, Jordana Brewster, and Teresa Palmer, all of whom recently donned standout sequin versions. Blunt showed off her green thumb at The Five Year Engagement premiere party in New York early last month in a Jason Wu dress from the designer's Pre-Fall 12 collection. We love how emerald beading and intricate embroidery bring life to the black strapless frock, and we must award bonus points to the actress for her well-matched accessories--Alice + Olivia Devon High Heel Pumps ($265) and green Lorraine Schwartz earrings--and of-the-moment bright pink lipstick. In addition to Blunt's stunning dress, we simply can't take our eyes off of the shimmering number Teresa Palmer wore at a Naeem Khan private dinner in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. The blonde beauty selected the Multicolor Short-Sleeve Floral Sequin Dress (price upon request, 212.575.1173) from Khan's S/S 12 collection, which, swathed in large sequin hibiscus flowers, is the perfect party dress for a hot summer night. At the same event, we spotted the lovely Brewster wearing another noteworthy Khan creation. Featuring a structured silhouette, pastel color palette, and sweet mélange of sugared blossoms, Brewster's Faille Dress with Pleated Skirt and Abstract Turquoise Floral Beading ($4999) offers a chic and sophisticated take on today's trend.
On The Red Carpet/Appliques
Today's look can also take on a brilliant 3-D effect with ethereal floral appliques, as seen on Emmy Rossum and Caroline Sieber. These embellished floral designs bring a touch of whimsy and plenty of visual intrigue to feminine dresses, making them a sweet choice for fancy after-hour fetes. Back in February, Rossum was certainly the belle of the ball at the Global Green pre-Oscar party in Los Angeles wearing a custom Oliver Tolentino dress with rosette cutouts and fresh water pearls. The tiny appliqued roses featured on the bodice add dimension to the full-skirted frock, while further enhancing the prim, ladylike spirit of the overall look. We also adore the garden of paillette flowers and crystals that veiled Caroline Sieber's Louis Vuitton dress from the S/S 12 collection, which she wore at a cocktail party celebrating said fashion house in Italy earlier this year. The extravagant details lend the dress a truly modern look that is both luxurious and playful, and, most importantly, hard to ignore.
