Tom Ford Is Bringing Back This Feminist Silhouette

Tom Ford is so much more than the designer of his eponymous label. The former creative director at Gucci and emerging film director (for those Nocturnal Animals fans) has been displaying the full range of his creative potential lately. So perhaps it was fitting that his Spring/Summer 2018 runway show kicked off NYFW this year. And what a timely show it proved to be. Models glided down the runway in looks that characterize the Tom Ford brand of '90s glam with a contemporary attitude. The recurring theme throughout the show was a bold-shouldered silhouette on everything from a power suit to a glittery minidress. The main takeaway here? It's no longer only businesswomen who are empowered by the strong shoulder—it's the party girls, the urbanites, and everyone in between. If the strong shoulder was the sartorial tactic for women to level the playing field in the boardroom, Tom Ford wants to flex that feminist tactic everywhere else, too.
