  • How It Started

As evidenced by his elegant, form-fitting creations, often featuring origami-like folds and geometric details, it’s clear that Roland Mouret’s already mastered the art of the dress. But for F/W 13, he’s debuting handbags. "Designing leather goods really pushes you to question your creativity, and for me bags are the next level in my design maturity," Mouret says. "It really is the most important category since I started creating dresses." Each piece tells a story based on Mouret’s time living in Paris in the ‘80s, like the Le Sept bag named after a nightclub he once frequented.

  • Who's It For

The bags are designed to be worn from day to night, so they’re ideal for the working professional on the go. "The collection is a heavy mix of French attitude, combined with the elegance and practicality of the Roland Mouret woman," the designer explains.

  • What You'll Love About It

Mouret’s four-style collection is timeless with subtle elements that set it apart, such as a rich color palette and luxe textures (goatskin, suede, and stingray). Mouret says they were designed with great attention to detail, "including a secret mirror stowed inside the clutch." Each bag’s an investment-worthy splurge you’ll wear for years to come.

  • How It Started

A chat with friends spurred CEO Christine Park to create Time’s Arrow (her career in fashion apparel and a lifelong love of collecting bags helped too). “We noticed how many bags look great but lack real function,” Park says. “I wanted one that works in all aspects--great style, quality, and usability--so I decided to figure out how to make it!”

  • Who's It For

“Women who live creative and engaged lives,” Park explains. “Time’s Arrow is a metaphor. Time has an arrow and it streams forward, like life. Our brand is forward-thinking and we design with the needs of a forward-thinking woman in mind.”

  • What You'll Love About It

It’s all about the details. For example, the hardware on each Time’s Arrow creation is custom-designed, and they use handpicked leathers and Italian lambskin embossed with croc and viper patterns. “We design outside in and inside out, leaving no detail undiscovered,” Park says of the label’s debut 15-style collection.

  • How It Started

True story: two girls meet for the first time in 2010 at a xx concert in Los Angeles and bond over their design philosophies. They keep in touch, and two years later, Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel move from Los Angeles and Berlin, respectively, to New York to start Mansur Gavriel. “The line began with the simple criteria that whatever we make should have longevity,” Mansur says. “We loved the idea of the woman's handbag, as it’s an object that becomes a habitual part of daily life, and we couldn't find bags we liked in the contemporary price range.”

Shop It: Mansur Gavriel Large Flat Zipper Clutch ($190) in Cammello

  • Who's It For

If “chic European elegance meets California easiness” speaks to you, you’ll fall for Mansur Gavriel’s colorful bags (there are five styles in 13 colorways). “The hues express a range of emotions--whether it be a bright happy yellow, a fun shock of pink, a cool downtown red, or soft and refined lavender grey,” Mansur says. And if you have an active lifestyle, all the better as the bags are “something you can beat up, yet the sophistication and quality still shines through.”

  • What You'll Love About It

Mansur Gavriel’s carriers are made from Italian vegetable tanned leather, a material both girls love working with. “It’s special, as it builds up a patina specific to your daily life and memories,” Mansur explains. “The color will deepen, and the leather will become rich and beautifully distressed as you use it more and more over time.”
