Art of Elysium Gala

Art of Elysium Gala
A magnificent gown is a terrible thing to waste, so we were quite excited to see that despite the Golden Globes situation, many fine frocks still got the spotlight this weekend at The Art of Elysium's anniversary party. No matter if the above dresses were specifically chosen for the gala or not, it's still interesting to see the red carpet trends and note which spring trends are starting to show up.

1. Joy Bryant
The lovely Ms. Bryant was the epitome of spring chic in Zac Posen's Mistral gown. The vivid color and romantic ruffles on her dress are spot-on seasonal trends and she added a youthful touch to her sophisticated dress with an oversized cocktail ring on her index finger.

2. Kirsty Hume
The eternally stunning Hume looked just as picture perfect as we expect from a former model. She chose a delicate black dress with cream lace details by Temperley London. The Napoleon Lace Honeysuckle gown is from Temperley's A/W Black Label Collection. Hume emphasized the vintage feeling of the dress by keeping her hair and makeup modern and accessories simple.

3. Rumor Willis
The lack of Globes must have been particularly distressing to this year's Miss Golden Globe, Rumor Willis-perhaps her black dress is a sign of mourning? We kid, we kid. Puns aside, Willis chose a J. Mendel gown from the Spring 08 collection with gorgeous draping and a slightly Grecian vibe. The dress features an embellished bodice, so Willis kept the rest of her look sleek (smart move).

4. Rachel Bilson
Enrobed in a slinky Christian Dior, Rachel Bilson (perennial WWWD reader favorite) looked ultra glam at the gala. Bilson rarely attends these sorts of super fancy events and normally doesn't wear long dresses, so it was a delight to see both situations happening at once. It's also worth noting that she incorporated some of Cartier's most interesting items, like shoulder-grazing earrings and a sizeable ring, for jewelry.

5. Rachel Zoe
We always watch what Rachel Zoe is wearing with interest, as she is one of the most powerful tastemakers in town. Her gown was in accordance with the most popular colors of the night (black and white) and we think the skirt of her dress is simply sublime.

6. Shiva Rose
One of our favorite things about Shiva Rose is her keen eye for vintage and unfailingly individualistic taste. Point in case: how many other women would wear (and look lovely in) a gold sequined cloche?

7. Lake Bell
We love the ingenuity of Lake Bell's outfit. Style.com reported that instead of borrowing a gown or leaving her look to the experts, Bell wore an ensemble of her own devising, comprised of a black Chanel bustier and floor-length vintage skirt she borrowed from her mom.

8. Monet Mazur
Monet Mazur made a sunny entrance in a lemon yellow dress by Juan Carlos Obando. She accessorized the slim column of her gown with Anita Ko jewelry and a jauntily-tied vintage fur stole around her shoulders.

9. Ali Larter
Like many other attendees (Rumer Willis, Rosario Dawson), Ali Larter turned to J. Mendel for her dress, choosing Look 31 from the S/S 08 collection. While the runway dress was shown in navy, Larter wore it white, and added long, simple, drop earrings.

10. Ashley Olsen
Finally, our last look belongs to the often-imitated Ashley Olsen. It seems Ms. Olsen agrees with our advice, as she wore a little leather (in this case, Rick Owens) jacket with her party dress! To keep things appropriately fancy, Olsen added a spangled clutch, a few ropes of pearls and gold around her neck, and some black liner on her inner lids.
