CommentsThe secret to the perfect red lips at J.Crew’s fall presentation? Hourglass’ Opaque Rouge Liqiud Lipstick ($28) in Icon layered over Maybelline’s ColorSensational Lip Pencil ($7) in #50 Red.

Surprise! Dolce & Gabbana took their hair and makeup inspiration from Sophia Loren. If you’re wondering what kind of ‘do looks best under a crown, pay attention: Guido prepped the hair with Redken’s Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam ($19) and its Quick Tease 15 Backcombing Finishing Spray ($18) before creating a very short part, backcombing the crown, and pulling the hair back into a chignon. The trick is to keep the sides of the hair, as well as the bun, quite flat against the head so that it doesn’t compete with the volume up top.

The blurry red lip at Marni might be our favorite iteration of the season. Tom Pecheux blended M.A.C. Lipmix ($15) in Crimson with its Lipstick ($15) in Hang Up before dusting the brand’s Pigment ($21) in Red over the lips. Both in between the steps and at the end, Pecheux used a cotton swab to blur the edges of the lip line for that slightly fuzzy, unpolished look.

Dewy skin might be the look du jour, but if you’re in the market for matte, look no further than Balmain’s fall show. Makeup artist Tom Pecheux told Style.com, “Mattifying the skin makes it a bit tougher,” so he used M.A.C.’s Prep+Prime Transparent Finishing Powder ($24) and Kett Sett’s Loose Powder ($22) to guard against potential shine.

De la Renta asked makeup artist Gucci Westman to whip up four different looks for his show. Our favorites? The bright lip courtesy of Revlon’s ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick ($9) in It Girl on the left and the dewy skin and bold lips on the right (the same formula in Cherry Blossom).

Makeup artist Aaron de Mey reversed the traditional cat eye at Kenzo’s fall show, lining the lower lash line with a dramatic swipe of M.A.C.’s Eye Kohl ($16) in Smoulder, layering the brand’s Eyeshadow ($15) in Carbon on top, and defining the edges with Fluidline ($16) in Blacktrack, while leaving the upper lid totally bare.

Building the gorgeous curls at Jacobs’ show was no easy feat. Guido used Redken’s Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam ($19) from roots to ends to make the hair as big as possible, before combing a deep side part and using different sized curling irons to create pin curls. After the curls set, he brushed everything out with a boar bristle brush and backcombed the top section, finishing with Redken’s Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray ($17).

Gucci Westman wanted to do something fresh for rag & bone’s fall collection, “their best yet,” she said backstage. So she gave the models a Twiggy eye with a twist, using Revlon’s ColorStay Liquid Eyeliner ($9) in Blackest Black to draw a floating line about two thirds of the way up from the lash line.

At Dior, Pat McGrath fulfilled a teenage makeup fantasy with metallic eyes and bright pink lips. Designer Raf Simons had actually requested small lips, which McGrath accomplished with a blurred ombre effect, but it was the liquid silver eyeliner, drawn on the top and bottom lash lines as well as the inner corner of the eye, that we might be tempted to try on a Friday night with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Liner ($19) in Silver.

If you’re feeling bangs for fall blame it on Luigi Murenu. The hairstylist fit each set to the models’ individual heads at Pucci’s fall show. If you decide to cut some of your own, score the rough texture at left with John Frieda’s Luxurious Volume Refresher ($7).

How did Lancome find the perfect blue eye shadow for Jason Wu’s fall show? By developing the color after they’d seen the fabric. The indigo shade is from Wu’s forthcoming collaboration with the brand, debuting this September. In the meantime, try their Color Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadow ($19) in All Made Up over its Liner Design Gel Eyeliner ($25) in Violet Stylista, which Diane Kendal used on the models backstage.

Designer Riccardo Tisci wanted the heads of his models to appear as if they were covered in roses, so hairstylist Luigi Murenu got to work pin-curling every strand of hair and pinning the swirls against the girls’ heads before painting them pink, orange, blue, purple, or black, some of which resembled retro bathing caps. Try Kevin Murphy’s Color Bug ($30) for a daylong experiment with color.
