Sweater Defuzzers Put to the Test—See Which One Works Best!

Nicole Akhtarzad

When it comes to sweater pilling, while we’ve uncovered the type of fabric that’s least likely (or at least the slowest) to pill, an unfortunate reality is that it’s pretty much unavoidable. Thankfully, however, there are multiple products available to combat this, and given the recent shift in weather, which makes it possible to walk out in just a sweater again, we thought we’d put a few to the test (and refresh our sweaters while we’re at it).

#1: Battery-Operated Shaver

Once you put the batteries in, it's ready to use. Simply turn it on and shave anywhere that's pilled.

The Verdict: As you can see, this one worked quite well. The downside to this electronic shaver, however, is that you have to constantly empty out the compartment that holds the shavings for it to work its best. This slowed down the overall process, making it a bit tedious (yet still effective).

#2: Sweater-Saver Brick

Rub the brick along the pilled area to pull off excess fabric. You may have to go over certain areas more than once.

The Verdict: While we love this brand for their other life-saving products such as their super-strong fashion tape and bra-converting clips, unfortunately their sweater saver wasn’t up to par with the rest of their offerings. Aside from being messy (the porous brick itself sheds quite a bit of dust), the process of using it was by far the most tedious of the three, and, as you can see the results were the most minimal, as it doesn't pick up small pieces well.

#3: Fabric Comb

Brush the comb along any pilled areas to pull off excess fuzz.

The Verdict: Without a doubt, this one had to be our favorite. Not only was it fast and easy to use, but the results were just as good as those from the electronic shaver, without having to worry about batteries or emptying out the compartment. Plus, it’s small, so it’s easy to store and takes up practically no space in your bathroom or desk drawer!
