The Style Blogger You'll Want to Bookmark Immediately

With outfits that run the gamut from entirely boyish (like a slouchy pantsuit-and-loafers combo) to sweetly feminine (in a swingy printed frock), blogger Natalie Suarez of Natalie Off Duty is a true clothing chameleon. Suarez also has a knack for pulling off cool rock ‘n’ roll ensembles in the spirit of her style icons Jimi Hendrix and Mick Jagger.

Please describe your personal style in two sentences or less.
If Janis Joplin and Jane Birkin had a baby. There are times I’m more on a rock ‘n’ roll, bohemian kick, but I still like to be extremely classic with lots of color.

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day style?
I live in New York City, and it’s honestly such a crazy and wonderful place. I’m constantly on the go here. I’m such a day-to-night type of girl. Whether I’m out for a job, on castings, or just on the hunt for inspiration for my site, the Bowery has been such a perfect place for me for live. It’s got that grunge vibe which I love. I always see musicians and artists down the road, and they all have such unique, rock ‘n’ roll style. I’m Chinese and Spanish and like to layer on jewelry from all of my travels to exotic places around the world. I love how diverse NYC is, there’s a place for everyone. But downtown has my heart. That easy, effortless style is everywhere here. I like dressing as if I were living in NYC in the ‘70s.

List some of your favorite current trends and why you appreciate them/how you are wearing them.
I love a good pantsuit and anything denim. A slouchy matching blazer and trouser is sexy and understated. Round sunglasses are my favorite type of sunglass for my face, and I love them with a thick frame. They’re so rock ‘n’ roll and timeless. The varsity jacket is everywhere this year. I love how it downplays an outfit and gives a little quirk to any look. It’s the perfect layering piece for fall.

Who are some of your style icons and why?
Honestly, I just love the style of boys in bands, like Mick Jagger, Jimi Hendrix, and Keith Richards. All the oldies that I would listen to on the radio as a kid got me hooked to the style of their time. They’re eccentric characters and what they wear is so timeless. Plus, it’s a daring type of style—not everyone can pull it off. I [also] still love Erin Wasson; she can just throw anything on and look amazing.

Name one go-to piece in your closet and why.
I have this killer gray-to-black ombre leather jacket that is my go-to. I like to wear it with simple black skinnies and a tee if I’m traveling on location for work, and I’ll wear it the next day over a mini-dress and cropped sweater. It’s versatile and such a fresh take on the classic black leather jacket.

What are some of your favorite places to shop?
I love love Assembly New York. It’s every girl’s dream, if she loves to splurge on basic killer items. I’m obsessed with their clean selection. I also like the quirky East Village shop Cloak & Dagger. It’s so tiny and quaint, but holds some really amazing hidden gems. Antlers line the walls, and I love their amazing rack of vintage, tailored finds. Plus, they’ve got some of the best go-to shoes around. It’s that cozy shop I love to stop by on a snowy winter day. If I’m in Brooklyn, I like to go to Fox and Fawn. It’s the place I go when I’m in the mood to search for something one of a kind. I always find something rad, like a vintage vest or little leather handbag.

What are some of your fashion sites/blogs?
I go to Studded Hearts for the latest editorials, lookbooks, and amazing mood boards. It’s my go-to site for finding underground photographers, street style, and of course, works of some of my favorite stylists and artists. It’s that place where there’s a little bit of everything. I also visit my older sister’s site Color Me Nana. Dylana Suarez is one of the most inspiring people in my life. I know everything I do now because of her. She’s the one who encouraged me to start Natalie Off Duty as a place to tell my story as a young model and share all my other passions. She is an incredible photographer and writer and I love her easy way of dressing.
