Q&A with Irina Lakicevic
Please describe your personal style in two sentences or less.
Rock chic yet minimalistic urban warrior who loves oversized knits and everything leather.
How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day style?
I live in Norway, so the weather influences my choice of clothing. Bad weather has inspired me to mix different materials and go for a textural mix. I love textures! Also pumps and boots are dominating my wardrobe rather than sandals, which bugs me big time.
List some of your favorite current trends and why you appreciate them/how you are wearing them.
I am completely into this blue wave that's on everything from jewelry to shoes. It's such a vivid color, yet so versatile and easily combined for a powerful impact. Also, everything leather-on-leather is down my lane. There is something so dangerously appealing about the trend. I always feel like a superhero when wearing bold leather pieces, especially layered. I love the Eastern/samurai trend seen at Proenza Schouler and Sportmax. I am always in the mood for beautiful, luxurious brocades, gold detailing, and intricate cuts. Also quilted silk tops from Sportmax would go perfectly with boyfriend jeans. I hate not having a Sportmax retailer nearby. I could buy the whole collection.
Who are some of your style icons and why?
I try not to idolize anyone, but if I could raid one person's wardrobe it would be Taylor Tomasi Hill or Carine Roitfeld's. Both of them have this innate sense of style that will never become irrelevant as fashion changes throughout the seasons. I admire that and I respect innovative timelessness.
Name one go-to piece in your closet and why.
My fiance's leather jacket. I wear it more than he does (he doesn't find this fact as amusing as I do). I layer it with coats or another jacket, or with jeans. I mean, it's a black motorcycle leather jacket; one can wear it with everything! It's oversized and the cut is amazing. It really gives a touch of French nonchalance to whatever you're wearing, even if it is a ball gown.
What are some of your favorite places to shop?
eBay, Net-a-Porter, and MyTheresa. Also, Vincci (they only have a Facebook page currently) and LOT333 in Bergen, where I live, has a sublime selection of everyday and high-end designers and garments.--Tiffany Tse
