Elin Kling

Elin Kling
When it comes to really making it in the fashion/publishing world, Elin Kling definitely knows what it takes. The Swedish stylephile's lengthy, impressive resume includes everything from developing a weekly style column for Stockholm media site Stureplan to fronting the fashion department of Expressen. And in addition to running her own personal blog,Style By Kling, just last year Kling joined forces with publishing company Bonnier to create, StyleBy, a fashion magazine for which she acts as fashion editor and creative director. But that's not all! Kling has also joined the ranks of Stella McCartney, Albert Elbaz and Donatella Versace by designing an exclusive collection for H&M, which debuted this past spring. Now living in New York, Kling continues to have her hand in a number of businesses, proving she's a true fashion pro. With all of her professional accomplishments and swoon-worthy repertoire of ensembles in mind, we thought this month's Style Stalker would be the perfect forum for showcasing a few of her best outfit choices!

Much like her professional life, Kling's approach to dressing is thoughtfully planned out and perfectly executed. For this blonde beauty, it's all about starting with a simple foundation (like a basic knit top with jeans or a mini skirt) and then incorporating that one statement piece (think: a plaid scarf or killer pair of heels) to really personalize the look. And while Kling says she doesn't spend a lot of time focusing on the latest trends, it's clear she has no trouble executing them with ease. Case in point: the cream and black slim 3.1 Phillip Lim suit she wore to the CFDA Awards earlier this summer (middle image), which was a seriously chic and stylish take on the masuclin feminin look we love so much. We also completely approve of the way Kling incorporates some downtown edginess into her wardrobe via one of the season's essential items: leather pants! Whether she's teaming a distressed pair with a blazer and heels for a polished finish (bottom, right) or opting for a sleek, of-the-moment cropped style (top, left), the resulting outfits are equally noteworthy and on-point.

It's evident Kling has an enviable arsenal of clothing, and seeing as we're such huge fans of her personal style as well as her impeccable work ethic, we were beyond excited to find out more about her inspirations, style icons, and of course, favorite places to shop! So read on for all her answers, plus, find out how to get the essentials for each of today's featured looks.-Jessica Baker

Q&A

Please describe your personal style in two sentences or less.
I guess I would say wearable, androgynous, and strategic. I love simple outfits that have that one piece that just makes it, like a patterned leather bag or really cool heels with a lot of attitude.

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day style?
Since I'm based in NYC I am very spoiled with inspiration, which includes everything from art to the buildings to the typical New York girl-she always pulls of this very nonchalant look that has so much confidence.

List some of your favorite current trends and why you appreciate them/how you are wearing them.
Right now I'm very into animal prints; my shoes, my scarf, and my jeans are all animal print. Otherwise, I don't focus that much on trends because I think that it's more about style.

Who are some of your style icons and why?
I get this question very often, but I don't have any specific style icon. I do love French women, though. No one can wear a blazer like a French woman. But if you want me to mention one it would definitely be Emmanuelle Alt. I love how her simple style makes the street style photographers go wild. I think it's trickier to make a simple look rock than an intricate one, because it's so much about making the right pieces work.

Name one go-to piece in your closet and why.
Easy: my Celine bag. You can never go wrong with a pair of nice jeans, a t-shirt and heels, and to add that luxury on my shoulder just makes my day-it's truly so worth it.

What are some of your favorite places to shop?
Of course I'm a big fan of New York, but I actually also do love to shop when I get to Stockholm. Swedish design is really good, and some of my favorite brands include Whyred, Acne, Nowhere, Nhu Doung, and Altewai Saome. Check them out and you will totally understand why!

What are some of your fashion sites/blogs?
I wish I could have time to read more fashion blogs. Every day I check out my friend's posts at NOWMANIFEST. I also love Jak & Jil, Style.com, Vogue.com, and The Cut!
