If it were possible, we'd invent a new adjective to describe the subject of today's Style Stalker, Aureta Thomollari, as the word "fabulous" seems to fall short of this fashionable globetrotter with the covetable closet! As a style blogger and entrepreneur, Thomollari documents her life--and her endless parade of glamorous ensembles--on Aureta's Blog. Whether she's jet-setting between her three main bases (Washington D.C., New York, and Los Angeles) or traveling to far-flung destinations (Qatar, Japan, and Korea, to name a few), Thomollari always assembles pitch-perfect outfits that reflect her surroundings as much as her eclectic, sophisticated sensibilities.Though Thomollari is somewhat of a fashion chameleon, sporting a breathtaking backless gown one day and quirky printed pants the next, the well-traveled savant has an eye for dramatic pieces. In fact, we think her outfits exude an anything-but-basic vibe! From a little black dress elevated with military-inspired buttons to a sweater-and-jeans combo edged up with silver accents, Thomollari aims to create memorable looks that you won't find anyone else wearing-and that's precisely why she's our June style stalkee.
Thomollari's international travels may help curate her closet, but we scoured the market for similar alternatives that will surely lend you her elegant aesthetic. And the best part is you won't even need a passport to snag this tastemaker's stunning style! Q&A with Aureta Thomollari
Please describe your personal style in two sentences or less.
It's hard to give an objective answer; my style is organic, perhaps eccentric and artistic, influenced by Old World glamour and peppered with my various life experiences and loves.
How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day style?
Due to my passion for traveling, I feel I'm a citizen of the world. Thus, rather than influence, each city I visit informs the way I dress. The flavors, colors, and scents of the various cultures I am fortunate to encounter help broaden my experiential vocabulary and thus inherently contribute to my sense of style. I'm not of one city or dress, rather I'm a personalized amalgam.
List some of your favorite current trends and why you appreciate them/how you are wearing them.
I am loving the floral prints this season. From Erdem and Mary Katrantzou to Celine and Isabel Marant, nothing says spring to me like flowers. I work beads and sequins into the mix to add texture and light, and have been wearing my Murua flower-print pants with my Isabel Marant floral jacket nonstop. I'm so in love, in fact, I just ordered a pair of Mother's exotic, floral A Day in Paradise jeans and can't wait to wear them!
Who are some of your style icons and why?
My favorite style mavens have to be Tina Chow and Grace Jones. They were both natural, luminous, and daring; ahead of their time, but always at ease with their anachronism. Polar styles, visionary confluence.
Name one go-to piece in your closet and why.
If I had to wear one thing daily, it would be my Issey Miyake black pleated dress. I've had it for 11 years now and I still love it. The craftsmanship is insane-it looks simple from afar, yet not one pleat has ever fallen out, not one stitch is ever out of place. Its timelessness always refreshes me.
What are some of your favorite places to shop? Again, please be specific and feel free to include online and brick-and-mortar stores.
I love Maxfield and Barneys in LA, Hu's Wear in DC, Colette in Paris, Calypso in St. Barth, Jeffrey in NY, Dover Street Market in London, 10 Corso Como in Seoul and Milan, LGB and Bedrock in Tokyo. Also, LA has amazing vintage stores and flea markets; Shareen Vintage, Rose Bowl, Decades, and Resurrection are standouts. For online shopping, I love Net-A-Porter.
