Rachel Zoe

Thanks to her ever-expanding celebrity clientele, successful clothing and jewelry line for QVC (Rachel Zoe for QVC), daily newsletter (The Zoe Report), and hit reality show on Bravo (The Rachel Zoe Project), there is no doubt that Rachel Zoe is an influential force in the fashion world and an adored household name. And while we remain fanatical fans of Zoe's genius workÂ--Demi Moore, Cameron Diaz, and Anne Hathaway are just a few of the big-time names on her client listÂ--and quirky Zoe-isms, the stylist's wardrobe is definitely our chief obsession. Zoe's personal pieces are an amazing mix of enviable vintage finds, high-fashion staples, and sky-high shoes, which she combines to create her signature seventies-glam look. Considering that we die for Zoe's chic attire, we figured she'd make the perfect subject for today's Style Spotlight.

Though Zoe is certainly known for her impeccable taste in gowns, the stylist is equally adept at creating super-chic casual ensembles too. Of all her many fabulous daytime looks, we're most fond of one particular combination: maxi dress, major wedges, and a handful of earthy, interesting, or oversized accessorizes! For example, while running errands in Malibu last month, Zoe opted for Alexander Wang's Classic Tank Dress with Pocket ($105), which looked amazing teamed with her python patchwork Gucci wedges (top row, far right). Zoe is all about the details, so she personalized the look by adding a long vintage Halston sweater, brown leather Chloe belt, her own Rachel Zoe for QVC scarf, and a quilted fabric Chanel flap bag from the S/S 10 collection. Zoe was spotted in a similarly relaxed maxi dress two weeks ago, when she was snapped shopping in Soho wearing a vintage Sonia Rykiel frock in a rich caramel color (bottom row, far right). While the Chanel bag made the grade again, this time she added a vintage YSL necklace, metallic Brian Atwood wedges, and giant vintage Gucci sunglasses. The resulting vibe is pure bohemian panacheÂ--love it!

Zoe's predilection for floor-grazing dresses doesn't stop when the sun goes downÂ--oh no! The lady loves a maxi for more formal evening events too, especially when they let her show off a little shoulder, or in case of her Calvin Klein dress at the ACRIA Annual Cocktails at Sunset party in New York, lots of shoulder (bottom row, middle)! For this summer occasion, Zoe complimented her peach-colored frock with her favorite vintage YSL necklace and finished it with loads of luxe gold accents: a Ferragamo clutch, Brian Atwood wedges, and an oversized ring from her QVC line, to be exact. Naturally Zoe knows how to show off this key body part a number of ways, as she demonstrated at the MOCA NEW 30th Anniversary Gala held in Los Angeles last November (top row, far right). That evening, Zoe went for a one-shouldered Emilio Pucci dress featuring a gorgeous white, black, and gray graphic print, plus a black Ferragamo clutch and a Kara Ross cuff bracelet. Though decidedly different in appearance, these gorgeous dresses offer flawless examples of Zoe's ability to rock a dramatic neckline with ease.

Of course, dresses aren't the only pieces in Zoe's awe-inspiring arsenal. She also knows how to use a spectacular pair of boots or bold separates to infuse her harmonious ensembles with some dramatic flair. Take, for example, what she wore to the Richard Hambleton Exhibition during Milan Fashion Week in February (top row, center). The stylist ramped up her all-noir look by choosing an unexpected materialÂ--leatherÂ--for the two main components of her ensemble. The combination of Rachel Roy's Glove Weight Leather Jacket ($1595, 866.960.9919) and Glove Weight Leather Shorts ($995, 866.960.9919) with opaque tights, Louis Vuitton wedges, and a structured Chanel bag is monochromatic but intriguing. By playing with texture and sheen within the same hue, the resulting outfit has dimension and interest. That same month, Zoe further demonstrated the appeal of dramatic elements when she stepped out in the West Village in pale suede Casadei thigh-high boots (bottom row, far left). Though she wisely kept the focus on these show-stopping shoes, Zoe opted for a few more vintage finds, including a Chanel jacket and YSL top, to tie everything together in this street-chic outfit.

We know that attempting to emulate Zoe's ensembles may seem like a daunting task, but don't fret, dear readers, because we've found plenty of look-a-like alternatives to put you on the right path! Zoe's quintessential daytime look involves a floor-length frock and major wedges, so let's begin there. T by Alexander Wang's Classic Jersey Maxi Dress ($105) and Roxanne Grace's Colette Long Dress ($370) are two excellent foundation-piece options; either one is just the sort of luxe basic our spotlighted subject loves. As far as footwear goes, Coach's Maritza Wedges ($188) and Jimmy Choo's Snake Print Wedge Espadrilles ($375) are excellent substitutes for Zoe's reptilian Gucci shoes, while Chinese Laundry's Drastic Wedges ($69) mimic her beloved Brian Atwood footwear. Finally, layer on a printed scarf like Tolani's Floral Scarf ($79) in Brown or Staring at the Stars' Tropical Weave Oblong Scarf ($28), and grab a pair of oversized sunnies like Forever 21's F5389 Sunglasses ($6) or Burberry's Oversized Sunglasses ($190) and you'll have mastered Zoe's daytime bohemian style faster than you can say "bananas."

Now that we have Zoe's casual attire covered, it's time to practice her flawless evening wear. The stylist prefers dresses that are simple in nature, but then uses various pieces of fine jewelry and chic purses to ramp up the glam factor. While it may be difficult to recreate her one-shoulder Pucci dress, we suggest you check out Forever 21's Contrast Bandage Dress ($25) for its strikingly similar print or ABS' One-Shoulder Stretch Gown ($285) for an equally beautiful, floor-grazing silhouette. Next up are the glitzy touches! For like-minded bags, check out Lauren Merkin's Lotte Patent Croc Clutch ($220) or Nicole Miller's Metallic Lizard Kaytie Clutch ($195), which are both superb in-stock options. Of course no Zoe outfit is complete without a few sparkling accents, so we have plenty of jewelry recommendations for you! House of Harlow has plenty of great options to choose, from like the Gold Aztec Leather Bangle ($35) and the Crystal Pave and Cream Leather Bangle ($100). Wear these pieces with Rachel Zoe's own Pave Case Bold Link Watch ($52) and a glamorous ring like Kenneth Jay Lane's Cabochon Round Ring ($92) and you are almost done! Just finish your look off with a statement necklace like CUSP's Mixed Leaf Bib Necklace ($110), and voilaÂ--your formal ensemble is complete.

Last, but certainly not least, are a few statement items that will put you well on your way to successfully capturing Zoe's eclectic style; feel free to mix-and-match as you wish! Incorporate leather separates into your fall wardrobe with a chic jacket like Halogen's Double Breasted Leather Blazer ($298) or Topshop Boutique's Leather Shorts ($160). If you're bold enough to combine both, complete your look in true Zoe fashion with Matiko's Ankle Wrap Wedges ($178) and Topshop's Leather Chain Handle Bag ($90). To get Zoe's more polished daytime look, start with Torn by Ronny Kobo's Melissa Tweed Jacket ($264), and then pick up a pair of sexy over-the-knee boots like Steve Madden's Calgary Grey Suede Boots ($90) and Michael Kors' Hamilton Tote ($298), which echoes the structured shape of her Hermes Birkin. Of course you should always add a few vintage finds to personalize and elevate your ensemble; be sure to check out some of Zoe's favorite stores like Decades, Rare Vintage, and What Comes Around Goes Around for ideas.Â--Jessica Baker
