Hollywood brought us loads of memorable and truly exciting things in 2011, including the hilarious Bridesmaids, Ryan Gosling galore, and best of all, a slew of stylish newcomers like today's subject, Felicity Jones! The British actress rightfully earned a spot on our radar back in January, when she was awarded the Special Jury Prize at Sundance for her brilliant performance in Like Crazy. Thanks to a starring role in Burberry Prorsum's F/W 11 campaign and scads of immaculate red carpet choices, she's remained in the limelight ever since! This year, the rising starlet is embarking on a whole new set of delightful adventures, including her first beauty campaign-she's taking over for Scarlett Johansson as the new face of Dolce & Gabbana Makeup-and a starring role in Warren Beatty's buzzed-about Howard Hughes biopic, set to film this year. As we look forward to the brilliant style choices and projects Jones has in store for us in 2012, we'd also like to reflect on some of her more thrilling fashion moments, which is exactly why she's the focus of today's Style Spotlight!
While Jones has served up a gorgeous assortment of sartorial delights over the last few months, we couldn't help but notice the brunette beauty's affinity for contrasting neutrals and a muted color palette. When indulging the former, Jones often alternates between crisply cool separates and fanciful frocks, resulting in a number of noteworthy black and white looks. For example, Jones was enviably on-point at the Hollywood Reporter's Power 100 Women in Entertainment breakfast in Beverly Hills early last month (top row, right) when she turned up in Proenza Schouler's Stripe Raffia Polo ($925) and Black A-Line Eel Skin Skirt ($2650). We commend the combination of stripes and her pulled-back hair, as the result is a bit preppy, ladylike, and modern all at the same time-just like our style subject! Later that day at a Bulgari holiday celebration, we noted Jones in another A+ noir et blanc mix, this time a Victorian-esque white lace H&M top paired with L'Agence's Leather Skirt ($650) and Christian Louboutin ankle-strap heels (bottom row, left). Jones' appreciation for feminine details is also evident in the black CH by Caroline Herrera dress she wore to a MOMA Film Benefit in New York two months ago (top row, left). The 3-D rose embellishment on the bodice elevates the simple silhouette, while adding just the right amount of romance and visual intrigue to the all-black look.
Though Jones often gravitates towards sober hues, she clearly has no problem executing metallics with ease too. For example, at the Los Angeles premiere of Like Crazy back in October, the actress looked ravishing in a shimmering rose gold sequined Chloe dress from the Pre-Fall 10 collection (bottom row, right). We particularly like the way she kept the rest of her look simple by teaming the frock with a pair of burgundy Gucci ankle-strap heels. A month later at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York-note: Jones was honored with Breakthrough Actor-our style subject called on Proenza Schouler again, this time wearing the brand's Aqua Silk Crepe Dress with Belt ($2750, 877.551.7257) paired with Calvin Klein Collection's Calf T-Strap Stilettos ($795, 212.292.9000) (far right, large image). The softness of the mint green hue plus the sleek, minimal silhouette add up to one refreshing and modern ensemble indeed.
If you find yourself enamored with Jones' effortlessly feminine sensibilities, you'll be delighted to learn that with a few unfussy pieces, achieving similar looks is a breeze. Start by snagging some separates with feminine details-remember that a muted or black and white color palette is key-like Quicksilver's Vintage Wrap Blouse ($84) or J. Crew's Crochet Lace Front Tee ($60) and Steffan Schraut's Slate Pleated Leather Skirt ($535) or Naven's Leather Biker Skirt ($154). If you'd like to stick with an all-noir look, try American Apparel's 3-D Flower Mesh Jumper ($88) with Mango's Pleats Detail Skirt ($35); the combo imitates the look of Jones' textured CH by Carolina Herrera frock perfectly. Dying to recreate her Proenza Schouler striped ensemble? We thought so, which is why we think you'll love Equipment's Nico Cotton-Blend Lace Blouse ($55) with ASOS' Full Skirt with Gold Stripe ($57) or Emporio Armani's Sequin Detail Shirt ($318) with Herve Leger's A Line Skirt ($945).
For those of you inspired by Jones' dress selections, we've got a few of those too! Though New Year's Eve may be over, a glamorous sparkly frock is perfect for a GNO or dressy wedding, so do yourself a favor and pick up Kay Unger New York's Sequined Lace Cocktail Dress ($450) or Ark & Co.'s Gold Sequin Cocktail Dress ($85) pronto. If you're all sequined out, try a less embellished piece, like ASOS' Shift Dress with Buttons ($82) and RED Valentino's Ruffle-Hem Dress ($595); not only will the pastel colors liven up your winter wardrobe, they'll be a smash come spring! Just be sure to pair either option with Steve Angels' on-point T-Strap Pumps ($160) to give your look the perfect Jones-inspired finish!-Jessica Baker
