Seamlessly navigating between glamorous pieces, wardrobe must-haves, and edgier fare for a spate of recent events, Barrymore's sartorial choices are definitely on point. Working with the dynamic styling duo Anda and Masha, Barrymore's been embracing some of fall's biggest trends--like sequins, fur, and pops of red--while still staying true to her eclectic and whimsical personal style. And, of course, we could hardly mention our admiration for her chic sensibilities without including a nod to her perennially on-point beauty choices! The Cover Girl's proclivity for keeping things current--whether it's with her to-dye-for ombre hair, an of-the-moment taupe nail color, or a cutting-edge fuchsia lip--makes her the perfect candidate for today's Style Spotlight.
One of the things we like best about Barrymore's personal style is the fact that she is quite adept at dressing for her body type. Wonderfully curvy with an enviable bust-line, Barrymore often opts for a neutral pant or skirt paired with an eye-catching top. Take for example, the super-polished ensemble she selected for her appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, earlier this summer (top, middle). We love how the screen siren infused her look with a hefty dose of fall-worthy sparkle via a bronze sequined Richard Chai top, then balanced the glitz with Camilla and Marc's Navigator Pants ($390), which she cinched in expertly to highlight her lovely shape. She finished off the look with red-carpet worthy Catherine Malandrino Earrings ($275) from the upcoming holiday collection and Yves Saint Laurent's Tribtoo Pumps ($795) in gray suede. Stepping out in an equally festive ensemble, but with a boho-chic twist, Barrymore once again drew focus to her upper half when attending the V Festival in London in August (top, left). For this weekend-long outdoor concert, the music-loving maven combined a Bess Badlands Tasseled Suede Poncho ($1240) with a pair of Joie pants (she's wearing an unproduced sample, sadly!), and finished off her music-fest best with mid-calf boots and a wide-brim hat, both vintage. While her outfit is somewhat outspoken, we appreciate that the big screen star is willing to take risks and find her playful look perfectly appropriate for the occasion.
The ombre-haired stunner also selected a brazen midriff-baring outfit to visit The Daily Show with Jon Stewart when promoting her newest rom-com Going The Distance last month, yet upgraded the stylized look by selecting pieces with a hint of luxury. Her Shoplifter and EDDA for VPL Black Hair Cape ($1200) is a directional choice in both texture and shape, and we like how she piled on the compositional intrigue by mixing it with Current/Elliott's The Flat Pocket Cargos ($298) and Giuseppe Zanotti's Suede Navy Blue Wedges ($695, 212.650.0455). She topped it all off with beachy boho waves (notice the braid?!) and fashion-forward fuchsia lips, for a totally runway-worthy ensemble.
While the beautiful Barrymore favors decorous tops, she's no one-trick-stylesetter and often mixes it up by accenting a t-shirt with lust-worthy outerwear. Our favorite rendition of said ensemble occurred when the actress was spotted out with friends in Covent Garden in early August (bottom, right). Here, she paired lightly distressed Iro jeans with Current/Elliott's The V-Neck T-Shirt ($113) and added delightful edge with Gar-de's Knox Leather Motorcycle Jacket ($695). Barrymore combined classic wardrobe staples--jeans, a t-shirt, and a cool leather moto jacket--for a simple, yet fashionable look that stays true to her effortlessly sexy appeal. Continuing in this rocker-chic vein for an appearance on the Sara Cox radio show in London (far right), Barrymore slipped on a plaid Boy by Band of Outsiders Flannel ($335) over a Yigal Azrouel t-shirt and J Brand's 901 Leggings ($139) in Olympia, topping the ensemble off with Selima's Jim Hat ($320) in navy and a pair of Christian Louboutin Fred Flats ($595) in a deep blue hue. This hipster creation is a flawless blend of closet favorites, and the color combination of black, red, and royal blue is particularly exciting and fresh. Additionally, we can't help but notice her taupe-tapped talons--and multi-finger ring--completing her cutting-edge, off-duty look.
While Barrymore does have a lust-worthy styling team behind her, recreating her fancy fare can be a breeze! To start, pick up a few of the basics, like a pair of sleek black pants and a healthy stock of skinny jeans. For a luxe, upgraded look we like Marc by Marc Jacobs' Viola Satin Pants ($248) with their cinched bow waist. Pair them with either Nanette Lepore's Muse Sequined Top ($348) or Topshop's Bow Back Sequin Blouse ($135) to recreate Barrymore's stylish Late Show ensemble. Alternately, we suggest mixing either of these shimmering blouses with Current/Elliott's The Skinny Jeans ($216), Blank Denim's Skinny Jeans ($78), or Topshop's Black Jeggings ($70) for an edgier look. If it's Barrymore's fur-tastic outfit you're dying to try, we suggest picking up a cropped shaggy vest like Adrienne Landau's Mongolian Wool Vest ($295), or Nasty Gal's Mongolian Shag Vest ($68) version and mixing either one with Rich & Skinny's Super Stretch Cargo Leggings ($194), for a glam, directional outfit.
Once you've scooped up all your Barrymore-inspired bottoms, the next step is selecting a great stash of tops! A gray t-shirt is clearly a Barrymore wardrobe must-have, so we'd suggest snatching up Alternative's Heather Burnout Tee ($36), Majestic's U-Neck Tee ($106), or Kain's Silk and Modal T-Shirt ($90) to wear under either Forever 21's Faux Leather Jacket ($32), Topshop's Marshall Cropped Biker Jacket ($100), or Forever 21's Fab Plaid Shirt ($13). Additionally, for another A+ ensemble inspired by today's style subject, try pairing your gray tee with Pinko's Mini Skirt ($108) and either Nasty Gal's In The Army Top ($52) or Vince's Cotton Utility Shirt ($210) for a bit of on-trend military style. Finally, complete all your stunning outfits with some starlet-approved footwear! While Barrymore's YSL pumps are beyond gorgeous, you can get equally chic shoes without breaking the bank by slipping on Steve Madden's Ultamit Pumps ($80), Guess' Amazed Gray Platform Pumps ($99), or Vince Camuto's Momas Corset Back Suede Pumps ($118) for a pair more akin to Barrymore's Giuseppe Zanotti wedges.--Liza Kaplan
