Meet the style blogger on our radar this month: Andy Torres of the Style Scrapbook. We turn the spotlight on some of the tastemaker's most noteworthy looks and get to know a little more about her personal style, closet go-tos, and style icons with our exclusive Q&A.
The Inspirational Style Blogger You Need To Be Following
- 1 of 10
They say change is the price you pay for progress, a concept that personal style blogger Andy Torres certainly understands. In her case, a major relocation--from a small town in Mexico, where she was born and raised, to Amsterdam--gave her the necessary push to launch her site, Style Scrapbook. The rewards for her daring move and dive into the world of personal style blogging are impressive, and include a global following, numerous prestigious accomplishments (including Polyvore’s Best Personal Style Award in 2011), and noteworthy design collaborations (she worked on an accessories collection for Mango and a line of camera bags for Kipling). In addition to impacting her professional life, the change of cities also inspired Torres to step outside her sartorial comfort zone and give her sport-influenced sensibilities a more of-the-moment spin via bold pantsuits, graphic prints, and statement accessories. The result: a range of inspiring ensembles that are delightfully showcased on her must-see blog. We chatted with Torres about her favorite places to shop, style icons, and more, so keep reading for our complete Q&A and tips on how to score her look.
Let’s talk about your personal style. How would you describe yours?
My style is kind of ever-changing, as I like to vary and keep things interesting on the blog, but I do tend to lean towards a sporty style, especially lately. I could live in a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, a varsity jacket, and high heels, which is somehow interesting considering I am 6’1’’. I do love my high heels despite my height!

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day style?
Making the jump from living in Mexico to moving to Amsterdam has drastically impacted my style. I feel a lot braver when it comes to experimenting with edgier outfits because people are very creative over here. Europe in general is an amazing place to be surrounded by style inspiration, and I feel so incredibly lucky to be surrounded by it.

Who are some of your style icons and why?
My first-ever style icon was most definitely Cher Horowitz [from Clueless]: cheesy but true. From then it has evolved, and I have had many more along the way. Right now, I would have to say I’m really inspired by Christine Centenera's style. I have been following her closely for the past three years and she is just so spot-on. I also love the style of Elena Perminova; it’s very risky, but everything looks amazing on her--literally everything.

Can you tell us about some of your favorite current trends?
I am not necessarily into following trends, but I guess I am still fixated on the sport one. I train [exercise] five to six days a week and I have been doing sports all my life, so I am thrilled about the fact that we can now wear "sport" clothes, add a pair of high heels, and still look stylish. I have a ton of gym clothes I can now adapt to my wardrobe.

What are some of your fashion sites/blogs?
In a nutshell, my morning newspaper is Bloglovin; I follow a ton of my friends’ fashion blogs. I read A Beautiful Mess for inspiration on everything from food to home and D.I.Y. projects, Style.com to keep up with the shows, and my ultimate favorite is Fashion Gone Rogue, mainly because it gives me so much photography inspiration for future posts.

What are some of your favorite places to shop?
I would be lying if I said I didn't shop at Zara, because I do, but I am also a big fan of the trend sections at H&M, ASOS, Barneys (I always pay a visit while in New York), & Other Stories, ACNE, Shopbop, COS, and Opening Ceremony. For me, it’s all about a good mix of high and low, and I tend to splurge more on shoes and bags rather than on clothes.
