Ankle boots

Ankle boots
The property of mods, punks, and Pat Benatar, ankle boots are one of those trends that just refuse to retire. (We'd call them the Jay-Z of footwear, but we have far too much respect for S. Carter.) We're of a mixed opinion here in the WhoWhatWearDaily.com office over the "booties." Hillary wants to put them in the Time Out Corner with black nail polish while Katherine is still down with them. However you feel, the bottines* are still relevant and made their appearance on a number of important fall runways like Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel. More importantly (for this website), they're Still Loitering on stars like Chloe Sevigny.

*According to our haphazard sources, this is the correct word en Francais.
On today's tour of recent ankle boot/celebrity history, we'll start way back in 2005 with Sienna Miller. That fall, Miller had her azure Marc Jacobs ankle boots in heavy rotation. She paired them with everything: dresses, jeans, shorts-you name it. Kate Bosworth went for a monochromatic look as well, when she showed of her lack of cankles last September at Olympus Fashion Week in New York. More recently Mischa Barton wore a pair with dark, skinny jeans when picking up dinner in Beverly Hills, while Chloe Sevigny accessorized her vintage Arnold Scassi dress with a pair o' suede short boots.

If you feel like it's time to invest (or update, if you already have a pair) in ankle boots, there are tons and tons and tons to pick from this season. Katherine's dream pair are the Chloe Buckle Detail Ankle Boots, which are a bad-ass, biker version of the style ($985, net-a-porter.com). Hillary has an odd fondness (yes, despite her hatred) for Costume National's Suede Insert Ankle Boot ($760, barneys.com).

Pipe dreams aside, we also found many other pairs that are still pretty excellent. Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent makes an embossed patent leather boot with double button details that is super sharp. ($425, shopbop.com ) The Faith Hidden Platform is shown here in black but comes in cream too. One of our favorite, reasonably-priced shoe designers is Jeffrey Campbell, and he's gone nuts this season in the boot department. How cool are these gray, suede and snake print shoes? ($124.95, zappos.com ) They also are available in tan or black. If you prefer a simple silhouette, check out Dolce Vita's Boston Zipper Bootie. It comes in the gorgeous cranberry color shown here, as well as black, brown, and cobalt. All options are totally bootie-ful. Ha. ($162, shopbop.com )
