Thanks to the fact that Steve Madden has been a reliable source for affordable on-trend shoes for decades, and probably a bit of nostalgia, the brand's shoes seem to be more popular than ever right now. According to Footwear News, the brand's chairman and CEO Ed Rosenfeld just confirmed to investors that the first half of 2017 has been very good for the veteran mall shoe brand. The company's net sales have increased by 15%, and Rosenfeld pointed out that pool slides and sneakers are to thank for the huge growth in women's footwear.

Rosenfeld said, "Industry sentiment around the boot and bootie category continues to be very cautious, with many key wholesale customers bringing in boots and booties later and planning the category down for the season overall." Does this mean boots won't be as popular this year as in past years? What shoe styles will shoppers choose instead? Rosenfeld's expertise certainly poses a lot of questions, but as with many trends, only time will tell…
