Sophia Amoruso Reveals What She Wore to Her Very First Job Interview
At this stage in her career, Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso's name is already synonomous with monumental success. She built the empire that is Nasty Gal from a humble, little-known eBay store where she resold books, clothes, and other random vintage wares; released a book called #Girlboss detailing her success; and, most recently, opened up the two first brick-and-mortar locations for the brand. So, it's fair to say that Amoruso knows a thing or two about what she's doing.
But at one time, she was just an average teenager, trying to figure things out. Before she launched her eBay store, Amoruso (like many of us) had a few odd jobs, including checking student IDs at a Bay Area art school and, yes, doing restaurant work. Her first gig? Making sandwiches at Subway.
Amoruso shared with us what she wore to her sandwich-artist interview and it's just as amazing as you might hope: "At that point in my life, I was wearing skate shoes and Dickies. The Dickies fit right in with the Subway uniform, if you think about it. For my interview, I had really short, curly hair, and I wore a wife beater, Dickies, and skate shoes, all with a studded belt."
While Amoruso's aesthetic may have changed since then, you can still buy skate shoes on Nasty Gal. Did she get the job? Of course, she did!
