What Every French Girl Will Be Wearing Next Fall

Nicole Akhtarzad

Few fashion houses can truly embody the quintessential French girl quite like Sonia Rykiel can. Season after season, we count on the brand to inform what trends will prevail on the streets of Paris in the coming months, with each show managing to feel fresher than the last. For the F/W 17 collection, which showed at Paris Fashion Week this weekend, Artistic Director Julie de Libran went above and beyond our expectations, unveiling a slew of art-inspired looks stemming from the works of Niki de Saint Phalle—a French sculptor, painter, and filmmaker. With her garments as the canvas, de Libran echoed the artist’s work through colors, texture, embellishments, and embroidery—at times all in one garment. The result? Forty-six looks, all of which felt (as de Libran intended and described) “bold, audacious,” and so much more.
