Some celebrities get dressed simply to look the part of Hollywood star, and then there are those who take it to a whole new level. Our February Guest Editor, Blake Lively, falls into the latter camp. The actress, who rose to fame on the fashion-centric show Gossip Girl and proved her acting chops in movies like The Town and Savages, clearly revels in the creative process. Her high-impact outfits on the red carpet--often bold, bright, textured dresses accompanied by statement shoes--are as carefully considered as her polished city-girl looks when she's off-duty. She's earned fans among the fashion set too: Karl Lagerfeld handpicked Lively to be a Chanel ambassador, Anna Wintour took her to Paris Fashion Week, she's the face of Gucci's Premiere fragrance, and everyone at the Who What Wear office is enamored with her sophisticated choices. That's why we asked Lively to reveal her latest stylish picks, so read on to shop them now.
Lively's go-to handbag? "Chanel, especially any of the Boy bag collection," she says. The label's Flapbag A67364 ($2250, 1.800.550.0005) mirrors Lively's own style: it's classic but updated with modern, ultra-glam details.
Lively's social calendar includes appearances at movie premieres and fashion soirees, so a high-octane party piece like Matthew Williamson's Embroidered Wrap Mini Skirt ($830, 212.255.9881, available late February) is a must. "I'd style this into a party outfit with a Burberry Prorsum trench, Brunello Cucinelli fitted cashmere sweater, Wolford tights, a Chanel clutch, and Christian Louboutin ankle boots," she says.
We've always relied on Rag & Bone for their incredible boots, but Lively reveals she's a fan of the brand's belts. "They make great ones," she shares, choosing the understated but interesting Triangle Belt ($125).
For each of Lively's show-stopping red-carpet outfits, there's an equally chic, off-duty one we love. Her casual looks have a classic, all-American feel, so James Perse's Casual T-Shirt ($50) in Heather Grey makes sense.
Lively may have been born and raised in Los Angeles, but working and living in New York has clearly given her an appreciation for statement coats. The actress adores Burberry Prorsum's Bright Metallic Trench Coat ($3195) in Pale Green, which would look amazing over her equally fashion-forward dresses.
Lively owes her status as top leading lady to her hard work over the years, but a little luck--in the form of Jennifer Meyer's Rose Gold Diamond Wishbone Necklace ($2525)--never hurt. "A daily staple of mine is Jennifer Meyer's rose gold and pave diamond wishbone," she reveals. "All of her pieces are delicate and simple, yet seductive."
Like any true fashionphile, Lively's up to date on the latest runway shows. Her favorite from the S/S 13 Couture collections? A playful, feminine look from Chanel Haute Couture (left), the Framed Shoulders Short Dress In Black And White Organza (price upon request, 01.42.86.2800), and Christian Dior's youthful, edgier Embroidered Off White Tulle Sleeveless Jacket and Embroidered Black Tulle Bustier On Beige Silk Pants (price upon request, 800.929.DIOR).
Unless you're as genetically blessed as Lively, her bombshell blonde locks and enviable figure are off limits. But you can smell like her with a spritz of Gucci's Premiere Eau de Parfum Spray ($87), which Lively refers to as "the Katherine Hepburn of fragrances--masculine, feminine, soft, strong, intimidating, and inviting."
The actress knows a good pair of heels when she sees them (after all, as Gossip Girl's Serena van der Woodsen, she practically lived in them on set!). She's partial to Christian Louboutin's sleek Paulina Pumps ($695, 212.255.1910), adding, "Christian's been working on some beautiful pieces that haven't come out that are his best work yet. I'm so excited for him to share them!"
