Sarah Jessica Parker on Judging Carrie Bradshaw

Erin Fitzpatrick

Sarah Jessica Parker wants to set the record straight: She and her Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw are not the same person. In fact, in a new interview with WSJ., she talked about how much of a challenge it was to step into Carrie's mind-set and not judge her.

"People probably don’t realize that Carrie Bradshaw was radically different from who I was, who I continue to be," she told WSJ. "I think that sometimes because we look alike and live in the same city and haunt the same neighborhoods, that it was sort of like I was playing in the sandbox, when in truth, it took real work every day to be her, to understand her, to not judge her."

So there you have it: Portraying Carrie was much more than playing dress-up, wearing Manolo Blahniks, and brunching with the gals—it required a true transformation on Sarah Jessica Parker's part. And considering we're still talking about the iconic show and its memorable fashion all these years later, something tells us her hard work paid off in spades.
