The start of November brought us Rihanna's first Fenty Puma by Rihanna collection, and among the new apparel was a restock of the perpetually sold-out Creeper sneakers. As per usual, the wildly successful shoes didn't last long, and Footwear News recognizes that 2016 was hands down the year of the Fenty Puma Creeper.
As such, the 2016 recipient of FN's shoe of the year award will be Rihanna for the Fenty Puma Creeper. Even though it's only the third time FN is giving out the award, it's a big deal in the fashion industry. The winning shoes are based on consumer feedback, retail sales, and, of course, social media presence. In 2015 Kanye took home the award for his Yeezy Boost 350 sneakers, and in 2014, Adidas won for its signature Stan Smith shoes.
"In my wildest dreams, I never would have imagined an honor like Shoe of the Year," Rihanna told FN. "It means so much to me to make a mark like this in the shoe and sneaker industry and to have so many people share my love for the Creeper." Now, we wait for these famed kicks to get re-stocked yet again…
