PSA: Rihanna's New Collection Just Dropped
Sponsor Content Created With Puma
Need a reminder of just how cool FENTY PUMA by Rihanna’s Fall/Winter 17 collection is? Flash back to March 6 when the alternative school of It models—among them, Slick Woods, Adwoa Aboah, and Hanne Gaby Odiele—owned the majestic Bibliothèque Nationale de France. Models marched down the long tabletops past the Emeralite lamps of the historic Parisian library like a student body that broke out of detention early, all wearing RiRi’s badass take on back-to-school style.
For her third collection, Rihanna calls on American high school cliques as muses, blending together the cliché styles of goths, jocks, prepsters, skaters, bad gals, and nerds into one seriously chic cool-girl uniform. “When I was in school, it was always my dream to be able to dress up in whatever I wanted,” Rihanna tells us. “But in Barbados, it was mandatory to wear a school uniform.” Considering Slick walked the runway exposing her tattooed bare chest under an open floor-length checked puffer coat, we’d say this collection reinforces principals’ desires for compulsory uniforms at schools everywhere.
Make no mistake—these sporty pieces are anything but casual. Check out our must-haves from the new F/W 17 FENTY PUMA by Rihanna collection (all shoppable thanks to Nordstrom), and see the three ways we’re wearing them with our chicest fall staples.
Where We're Wearing This:DETENTION 101
Invites to the FENTY PUMA by Rihanna runway show arrived in the form of a card asking guests to report to detention, so it’s no surprise this all has a slight Breakfast Club feel. We love this look for bringing together every pieces from high school archetype into one harmonious look: the jock’s collegiate outerwear, the rebel’s leather skirt, the preppy girl’s blazer, and the goth’s cleated creepers (oh yes, they’re back).
The newest iterations of those cleated creepers come complete with a statement-making ankle strap.
Master the jock-goes-collegiate vibe by wearing your hoodie under a classic prep-school blazer.
ICYMI, puffer jackets are gearing up for a major moment this season, so go ahead and add an extra layer of utilitarian style to your look.
Where We're Wearing This:(THE PARTY AFTER) THE BIG GAME
Just when we thought we’d seen every iteration of athleisure, Rihanna has gone and injected a whole slew of new sportswear-inspired pieces into our fall wardrobes. We’re making this look occasion-worthy by playing up the unexpected color combinations.
Take a cue from the runway and wear your FENTY PUMY by Rihanna creepers with fashion socks pulled high (think bright colors or athletic stripes by day, and glitter or fishnets by night).
We couldn’t be more into the sheen and ’90s vibe of this ribbed dress—it’s essentially an ankle-grazing version of a high school soccer jersey.
Keep the rope strap of this leather bucket bag knotted, or untie it to make the bag shoulder-ready.
Where We're Wearing This:PLAYING HOOKY WITH FRIENDS
This must-have crop hoodie is just asking to be paired with other cool-girl calling cards—think acid-wash jeans. Pop the collar on that heritage-print coat and throw on your dark glasses to make it across the student parking lot undetected.
Introducing your essential all-white fashion sneakers for fall.
Cut to us also wearing this hoodie with high-waist pants and a check blazer.

Natalie leads the style direction for the all content we create in partnership with our friends at various brands plus the legendary team of editors who work on those shoots and stories. She loves collaborating and storytelling, so it's a really fun role for her. It's also the first full-time job she's ever had! She started out in her career as a very mediocre model who agreed to her first styling job to impress a photographer she had a crush on, which led her down a happy path of contributing to Vogue Australia and working as a stylist, fashion writer, and creative director for all sorts of brands and titles. She has a bachelor of communications, but most of her career opportunities came up thanks to some fleeting and accidental street style moments. She's been at Who What Wear for three and a half years and still loves to work as a freelance consultant with brands and designers to shoot their campaigns in NYC. She's originally from New Zealand, and Bondi Beach is her second home, but like just about every other 20-something, she fell in love with New York at some point. She lives in Williamsburg with her fiancé and their weird little dog, Ruby. If you ever need reccies for feel-good fashion, legit coffee spots, politics podcasts, or non-intimidating yoga studios, she's very much your girl.
