Per usual, leave it to Rihanna to wear an upcoming trend before everyone else. In a major display of sacrificing comfort in the name of fashion, the always directional star just boldly stepped out in London wearing the puffiest of puffy coats—a major F/W 16 outerwear trend, as seen on the runways of Balenciaga, Stella McCartney, and Acne Studios, to name a few. (For reference, the expected forecast in London tomorrow is 85 degrees and sunny.)
While a puffer is certainly a cold-weather staple, we predict this year will see it paired with dressier pieces to create a more forward look, as opposed to strictly functional use, and Rihanna’s oversize Raf Simons coat and lace-up ankle boots demonstrated just that. Lovers of ’90s hip-hop–inspired trends will be happy to see yet another trend revived from the era.
