Much to our benefit, 2016 has been the year of Rihanna designer collaborations. First came the instant success of her Fenty x Puma trainers and fur slides, then came her much buzzed-about collection of denim shoes with Manolo Blahnik (including these dramatic boots), and now the official news today is that the directional musician is collaborating with Dior on a futuristic collection of sunglasses, named “Rihanna.” This is the first time one of the brand’s ambassadors has embarked on an in-house design project.

As reported by WWD, Rihanna cites La Forge from Star Trek as her inspiration for the frames, which she has already been seen wearing while out and about (see above). She said of the collaboration, “I’ve always been obsessed with his eyewear, and when I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together.”

Given the immense popularity of Dior’s So Real and Technologic sunglasses among celebrities and the fashion crowd, the Rihanna collection is expected to be a hit as well. The shades, which come in a variety of both vibrant and classic hues and retail for a whopping $840 to $1950, will be sold exclusively at Dior boutiques beginning in early June.
