For those of you who have not yet experienced a Rei Kawakubo fashion moment, get ready, because come spring 2017, they will be all anyone will be able to talk about. Rei Kawakubo is a Japanese fashion designer known for her out-of-this-world creations under the brand Comme des Garçons. Consistently pushing boundaries and all norms that come with the fashion industry, Kawakubo has made quite a name for herself, so much so that the 2017 Costume Institute exhibition and gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will be based solely on the designer and her marvelous designs.

From what we know so far, the exhibit will display 120 of her most famous designs from the past 36 years. This is an exceptionally exciting year for the institute, due to the fact that Rei Kawakubo is the first living designer to be honored since Yves Saint Laurent. To prepare you to experience the designer's full genius next spring, ahead we have rounded up some standout looks from her collections over the years. If you're not yet familiar with her designs, you will be after this. From large volume to detailed headpieces and overall shapes unlike anything you've seen before, these Rei Kawakubo fashion moments are worth your undivided attention.
